Fitbit Charge 6 doesn’t pair

The new fitbit charge 6 doesn’t pair with Iphone. It shows the pairing number, but when you insert it in the app, it keeps hanging and then says something went wrong. Connection to device timed out. Tried restarting phone, app, fitbit, same result.

Hello everyone. Thanks for your posts about setting up your Fitbit Charge 6.

For those of your experiencing issues setting up the device, please take a look at this article (Why can't I set up my Fitbit device?) and try these steps:

  1. Fully charge your Fitbit Charge 6
  2. Restart your Charge 6. Please use the charging cable method described in the article.
  3. Make sure the Fitbit app is updated on your phone.
  4. Force close the Fitbit App on your phone
  5. Forget any Fitbit devices from the Bluetooth settings
  6. Turn off the Bluetooth, and then turn it back on
  7. Retry the Charge 6 Setup process.

Thanks in advance. For those of you who are already in contact with support, please stay in touch with them. They will provide you with a resolution.

After all the problems people were having with the charge 6, I bought a Charge 5 instead. Took 30 seconds to switch from charge 4 on my phone to charge 5. Why should anyone have to struggle. Also I did not have to switch to google account yet. Still on yahoo.com account

I got my Charge 6 yesterday from google store , wasted  😑 more than an hour to sync it , restarted phone , turned bluethooth on and off , downloaded fit bit app again on phone still it won't sync. I tried to turn Charge 6 on and off but it was weird as it was not turning off and on even though I followed the instructions . Battery was also around 50 %. Why did Fitbit release Charge 6 without proper Quality Testing ?

After number of failed attempts , returned it back yesterday itself 😏

Back to Charge 4 now , also read that Charge 5 and Charge 6 does not have altimeter ? is that true ? Why would advanced versions remove this feature ?

Best Answer

@wilu_nn there has been no official answer. We assume the altimeter was removed to make room for more advanced hardware. Also the altimeter has more complaints than any other feature. Many users hated this feature, since, it uses airpressure, and many false floors

THANK YOU!!! This is the post that finally did it for me. I really manhandled that button on the USB cable. Steady cadence of long hard presses.

I was trying to reply to mailau's lifesaver post that said the following:

"I was finally able to reboot the device.  The "3 click" on the button is SUPER picky.  Make sure the button is vibrating your device after each click, and go ahead and just keep doing clicks.  I think I ended up doing 5 clicks in a row (with successful vibrations after each click, I had to press much harder than I thought) and it finally rebooted.  Upon reboot, it showed me the fitbit logo, charge amount, and then started rotating through the same screens as before.

In case this helps anyone...when my device was rotating through the "download app" screens, the screen would go black abruptly during that sequence when the device was in a "bad" state.  Upon reboot, when the device started rotating through those images...it would stay ON the whole time.

After all this and one more failed pair attempt, we finally got it to work.  It took us 2 phones because it kept failing on my husbands device but I was able to pair it to MY phone, update the device, then remove it and pair it to his.  If we didn't have a second device, we wouldn't have been able to set the thing up at all.  "

I was finally able to reboot the device.  For "3-click", make sure the button is vibrating your machine after each click, and go ahead and keep doing clicks.

I think I ended up doing 10 clicks in a row (with successful vibrations after each click, much more complicated than I thought) and it finally rebooted.

Upon reboot, it showed me the Fitbit logo, and charge amount, and then started rotating through the same screens as before.

In case this helps anyone...when my device was rotating through the "download app" screens, the screen would go black abruptly during that sequence when the device was in a "stuck" state.  Upon reboot, when the device started rotating through those images...it would stay ON the whole time.

After all this, I have managed to make it work.

This worked, I had to connect the Charge5 cable then do the 3 clicks to restart the Charge6 then 1st pair failed and 2nd pair finally worked.

Hello everyone. Thanks for your posts about setting up your Fitbit Charge 6, your own experience and what ultimately helped you. This will help other users out.

I am glad it has worked out and you were able to set up the device. The restart seems to resolve it, however, timing is key to get the restart to be successful. Pay attention to the vibrations as many customers have confirmed here. Refer to the instructions above for troubleshooting steps for this scenario.

The help articulate is useless! Here's what I did to make it work:

a. Delete the app

b. Delete charge 5 from Bluetooth list on your phone

c. Reboot phone

d. Turn off and turn on blurooth

e. Reconnect the charging cable to the device

f. You should get a pairing  nimber and the rest of the steps work should work after that

Good Luck!

Bought charge 5 because of all the pairing problems I read about. Happy so far but when it dies will be moving to a different brand as google doesn't seem to care about the problems. Also wants me to move to google account but won't let because it says I have another device use my g account.. Over half hour on phone and support could not figure it out. I'm sure my fitbit will before the mandatory move  by date. Too bad as I think it is a very good device, just crappy support.

Same goes with my Android phone. I just bought Fitbit Charge 6 yesterday. It's brand new. Everything is okay, but it won't Bluetooth pair with my phone.

@Iqbalsbarqi I'm not sure what you mean by everything is ok, followed by the BT won't connect.

Does your Charge 6 sync? Notifications?

Did you set it up following these steps

All setup needs to be done through the fitbit app. You can not do anything through the phones Bluetooth.

I had the same problem. After calling the helpline I was able to get the Fitbit working.  I found that the problem is with the quick start instructions.  It says to push the button on the tracker if you are having a problem connecting the device.  That is wrong!  It should say to push the button on the USB end of the charger.  Once I did that, the setup worked quickly.

Absolutely ridiculous. I have tried connecting on two different phones with two Fitbit Charge 6s and it hasn't worked.

I can't restart the device by pressing the button on the charging cable. Even if it vibrates and repeats the pulse more than 20 times.

I have finally returned the two Fitbit Charge 6 that I had purchased. I have been using Fitbit bracelets for more than 8 years and have never had these problems. I may not buy any more Fitbit products again.

Hello guys.

For me, it turned out that the solution is to uninstall the fitbit app and reinstall again. Now it can Bluetooth pair with my phone.

I found strange thing happened with sleep tracking of the Fitbit.

1) sometimes it automatically track my sleep without I need to check in manually at the start of the sleep, sometimes it doesn't.

2) sometimes fitbit records sleep pattern, sometimes it doesn't. Only 'asleep' and 'restless' 'awake'

3) yesterday sleep, Fitbit recorded  pattern. But today the record is gone, and it changed into 'asleep' 'awake' recordings.

What happen?

So true!   My Fitbit Charge 5 used to vibrate when I got a call but hat feature stopped working.   Just upgraded to the Charge 6 and the same issue.  I am missing phone calls.

Exactly same thing here. Charge 5 cable was able to reset charge 6. Couldn't do with the original that came with the 6.

When I see the Download app message on the Fitbit 6 it keeps shwing that until paring when it will show a code that isn't accepted or timed out.
What I did was straighten the cable so it has almost no bends in it.
Then connect the USB charge cable to the Charge 6 and insert the other end to a portable USB charger.
Then keep disconnect and connect the cable without pressing the cable button to the portable charger.
It took me 20 to 30 times till the Fitbit logo appeared and the charge level and date was shown.
After this I could pair it without issues.

So for pairing to work it is key you will see the fitbit logo appearing and the charge level till it let you pair it.
All the best, Richard

I dont even get a pairing number.   Bluetooth does not recognize it.   Wonder if its ios 17.1.1 that is the problem.   Worked with fitbit support and we removed all fitbit devices, rebooted new device, rebooted phone, removed and reinstalled the app 3x.    Nothing works.

Tried my 5 cable too.  Both cables will show fitbit logo with each press of the button but does nothing after the 3rd attempt.   Just shows battery status.  More Fitbit crap.   Always try one more time.   Exhausting.   Only git it because i sill have almost a year on my premium account and they wont cancel and refund the remainder.   Charge 5 failed right after an update which was 2 months into renewed subscription and 1 month before rollout of charge 6.    Beginning to thing Charge 5 was malware to force us to get 6.    VERY DISSATISFIED WITH FITBIT.

Corrct.  5 and 6 dont have altimeter.  Cannot count flight of stairs.
