Inaccurate sleep on Charge 6

ANSWERED

Did something change with the sleep tracking on the Charge 6 on or about 23 June 2025.  While I used to have sleep scores consistently above 80 with 8 hours sleep, since that date my scores are between 66 and 74 and it shows sleep times between 6 or 7 hours every day (I would occasionally get these sort of sleep scores previously but only if i had a bad nights sleep).  Personally, I have not noticed any change in my actual sleep patterns.  I have reinstalled my app and restarted my Fitbit and Bluetooth.  I have not changed the way I sleep or how I wear the Fitbit. Is there a setting I need to change?  Or was there an update that changed the way sleep scores are calculated. Thx

I started a separate thread on this.  They changed the algorithm with no disclosure late June.  After a week of dealing with tech support here is what I was told via email from a helpful supervisor:

"If you previously tracked sleep with Fitbit, your log showed the time spent awake, restless, and asleep. We fine-tuned our mechanism for tracking sleep to estimate your sleep stages by incorporating heart rate and other data. As a result, we combined your awake and restless time into total awake minutes to give you a clearer picture of your sleep cycles. You may notice more awake minutes in your sleep stages than in your previous sleep data due to this change."

No input from sleep experts.  Restless is not the same as awake yet they combine it with the new algorithm and acknowledge.  your scores will deteriorate….. to me it is now meaningless.  I shared multiple daily screen shots showing 2,3 & even 4 hour blocks of awake time and crashed me into 54 score, and either poor or fair daily.  Monthly average this year was low 80s.  The supervisor agreed my results made no sense.  Were it not for my contact he never would’ve discovered the change through escalation.  Engineering told nobody!

They are monitoring feedback so if readers are upset, demand as I have a full return to the previous algorithm!  I have my annual wellness visit next week and will ask my PCP his medical opinion on the change and the resulting bogus #s.

Hello, @Copland, welcome to the Fitbit Community.

Thanks for letting me know about the sleep accuracy while using your Charge 6, I understand the impact of this and how you can feel, I'll do my best to help you.

I appreciate the steps you did to get this improved, I recommend you to do the following:

I have the same problem with my luck. It said that I was awake for two hours last night. I was not. So I just bought a charge six and I was hoping when it arrives tomorrow that the sleep would be better but now I’m a little skeptical

I am always adjusting my sleep time on my app. Why should I have to do that. Isn’t my Lux or Fitbit device supposed to do that itself this is pretty annoying

Sleep setting has always been set as Normal.  I never touch the sleep session start or end times or duration, but they seem about right. For some unknown reason, from about 23 June my sleep scores have fallen off a cliff and as far as i know I have not changed any settings in my Fitbit or my phone.  All my other health metrics look correct including my resting heart rate.  My sleep mode is set to off as I need to receive alerts from my Continuous Blood Glucose Monitor.   But I have been receiving these notifications for over a year now without it impacting my sleep score because on most nights there are no notifications.

It's funny, mine are higher now. My heart rate slowed, and I'm getting over 2 hours of deep sleep. I'd normally score in the 80's but now in the 90's. I feel like we are part of a social experiment and I'd like an explanation.😀

I have been experiencing the same exact thing with my sleep scores.  Thought it was me, but feeling the same.

Hiya,so glad I can talk to someone is experiencing the same issue as me. On the 23rd June and 24th June my sleep score was 90 and 89. On the Wednesday they had changed to 78 and 79. My score has always been in the 80’s with 8 hours at least sleep, with occasional bad sleeps in the top 70’s, now they are low 70’s and high 60’s with 6 to 7 hours sleep.  I have an Inspire 2 and actually bought an Inspire 3 thinking it was because the sensor  was faulty but even on the Inspire 3 the sleep scores are low. I actually spoke on chat to a Fitbit customer advisor and got no where. Surely they would know if the sleep calculator had changed?

I have noticed the same thing?  Says I am awake for almost 4 hours every night.  I was getting great sleep scores before June 23rd.

Have you noticed any improvement?

I have had the same issues.  Have you had any improvements in your sleep score?  Mine has been terrible since June 23rd.

Best Answer

No improvement, says I'm getting 5 or 6 hours sleep per night, but I know that's not correct.

Best Answer

Still the same. No improvement, something has definitely changed on the 25th/26th

The issue is with the new sleep algorithm. Specifically wake-up cutoff. I recently upgraded to charge 6 from the Inspire 3. Inspire 3 tracked sleep perfectly. Charge 6 consistently cuts off sleep early.

When I add more sleep time in the app, i can see the data that I was sleeping is there, but it’s cut off from the automatically recorded sleep time, also this added portion now does not give data on rem-deep-light, just awake-restless-asleep.

Fitbit needs to fix this. We should not have to add on a block of sleep manually every morning to get an accurate read on the total time we are sleeping, over time. It’s the whole point of automated sleep tracking.

please please please fix this Fitbit!!

My inspire 3 screen failed l, otherwise I would go back to the inspire 3, as it’ tracking is impeccable. Perfect.

sleep is so important, and monitoring sleep over time is the single largest reason I have a Fitbit….

once again PLEASE fix this!

The problem seems ongoing, do you have any other suggested fixes to share with the community?

I did change back the sensitivity to normal. Seems most days it’s working

I checked my settings and it’s set at normal, so the sensitivity setting is not the issue for me here. Nor is the suggestion I’ve seen frequently to adjust the fit.

its good that you’re finding the reeding more accurate now, but even a couple days cut short a week will throw off the average.

really though, the fact that sleep tracking works perfect consistently on the Inspire 3 makes it hard to accept that this can’t be fixed. If Fitbit cannot put the effort in I’ll be going with a different company for future wearables.

I'm having the same exact problem. When I googled solutions, it suggested, restarting the Fitbit, and I did that and it did not help at all. I'm really frustrated and not seeing anything from the Fitbit gods in these replies.

I’m having significant issues with my sleep data since end of June as well. I have been a user for 7 years and on my 3rd generation of trackers - Charge 6. My sensitivity is set at normal. I manually rebooted the device. Nothing has improved. Something has changed. My scores have dropped significantly and my sleep which averages 7 to 7.5 hours per night has dropped to 5 hours with long stretches of awake time bring reported. What has happened to your metrics?  Many people are reporting the same concerns.

Best Answer

My sleep scores have significantly dropped also. My sensitivity is set normal as it always has been.  With so many people having issues, I cannot believe they are not working on a resolution.

I am probably going to look into another sleep tracking device.

According to Fitbit I spend a lot of the night awake and if I do get a sleep score it is in the 50s.  I tried everything to fix it but have run out of ideas.

Inspire hr also started giving inaccurate sleep results on 24 June 2025. Hubby has a Versa and his is fine. I feel like some of us who have particular Fotbits are being 'encouraged'  to get a more expensive model. I need the sleep results to be accurate for medical reasons (within reason).
