Did something change with the sleep tracking on the Charge 6 on or about 23 June 2025. While I used to have sleep scores consistently above 80 with 8 hours sleep, since that date my scores are between 66 and 74 and it shows sleep times between 6 or 7 hours every day (I would occasionally get these sort of sleep scores previously but only if i had a bad nights sleep). Personally, I have not noticed any change in my actual sleep patterns. I have reinstalled my app and restarted my Fitbit and Bluetooth. I have not changed the way I sleep or how I wear the Fitbit. Is there a setting I need to change? Or was there an update that changed the way sleep scores are calculated. Thx

I have the Charge 5, but mine has done the same thing. The change happened in June 24th. My awake times have skyrocketed every night. When I woke yesterday morning it gave me an awake time of 2.5 hours. Prior to the 24th my awake times were consistently around an hour or less. Something has definitely changed with it.

I have to get up 2-5 times a night because of medication, and Sensitivei setting works best for me. Even so, Fitbit tends to count only the longest at-rest time as sleep, not the shorter sleep times I have intermittently. I certainly wish I could sleep through the night with disruption, but those days are gone for me and for others for various reasons.
So stop making everything tuned to young people, PLEASE. The demographics and reasons for using Fitbits are changing, and more of us use and choose them for health tracking. Those whose interest is mainly fitness and "working out" choose watches, instead.

It was the last two updates that messed up the sleep algorithm. I am so frustrated and disappointed in Fitbit/Google

Mine showed 4 hours + of sleep a couple of days ago and I know that is incorrect.
So mad that they messed up something that was working just fine.

Another voice in this madness... same problem here with sleep tracking. I've noticed several changes since around the end of last month. Like most, my sleep scores/times have dropped to stupid values even though nothing has changed regarding my sleeping habit. In addition, the data shown on the main 'Today' screen for sleep does not in any way match what the data shows when you drill down by clicking on the tab to show the individual days past and present. I can also edit the sleep data for the day (changing start/stop times), and those changes do not get reflected back in the main 'today' screen at all. Another broken feature is when I do change the sleep data, it used to pop up a little face and say 'recalculating', after which it would re-display the data. It doesn't do that any longer, so I have to back out to the main screen and then come back to the sleep data to see the changes - although it still does not update the data shown on the main 'today' screen.
Very frustrating. It seems that quality control and regression testing on these software updates has gone by the wayside - something I would not expect from Google. I've had this tracker for almost 2 years, and it seems that every couple of months, something new gets broken and never fixed.

I noticed today that the Weekly progress report from Fitbit shows that my average sleep was 8 hrs 8 min. Which sound about right to me. But if I look at the sleep times as displayed in my App, I calculate an average of just over 6 hours.
So the Fitbit device is still good, it’s just the App that needs fixing.

Fitbit is recording information inaccurately. It is clearly an issue. I am currently looking for other companies. The customer service with Fitbit is terrible and the customer concerns and issues do not seem valued at all. So many customers are expressing the same issues without any resolve.

Don't think that's the case. I purchased a Charge 6(had a 5) and the sleep tracker issues are happening.

Woke up at 4:30 this morning, sleep tracker showed 4 hours 35 minutes, score of 79. Hit the bathroom, laid back down, dozed off until 6, tracker shows 5 hours, 10 minutes, score of 62. WTH?

For 3.5 years my sleep score was consistently over 80 until late June. Now my scores are high 60’s to low 70’s. If I had a bad night sleep I would get a score in the high 70’s. In the past month I've had scores in the 60’s and even one in the 50’s. Yet, I don't feel any difference physically.

I agree. I always scored in the 80’s now my sleep score is in the 70s and 60s. Please Fitbit / Google sort this out. The sleep algorithm has obviously changed. Please change it back 🤷:female_sign:

I started a separate thread on this. They changed the algorithm with no disclosure late June. After a week of dealing with tech support here is what I was told via email from a helpful supervisor:
"If you previously tracked sleep with Fitbit, your log showed the time spent awake, restless, and asleep. We fine-tuned our mechanism for tracking sleep to estimate your sleep stages by incorporating heart rate and other data. As a result, we combined your awake and restless time into total awake minutes to give you a clearer picture of your sleep cycles. You may notice more awake minutes in your sleep stages than in your previous sleep data due to this change."
No input from sleep experts. Restless is not the same as awake yet they combine it with the new algorithm and acknowledge. your scores will deteriorate….. to me it is now meaningless. I shared multiple daily screen shots showing 2,3 & even 4 hour blocks of awake time and crashed me into 54 score, and either poor or fair daily. Monthly average this year was low 80s. The supervisor agreed my results made no sense. Were it not for my contact he never would’ve discovered the change through escalation. Engineering told nobody!
They are monitoring feedback so if readers are upset, demand as I have a full return to the previous algorithm! I have my annual wellness visit next week and will ask my PCP his medical opinion on the change and the resulting bogus #s.
