What will work in Europe?

I got the new Fitbit Ace LTE for my 9 year old and it's been GREAT!

We're traveling to Europe in July for 4 weeks - France, Germany, England.

Will ANYTHING on the watch work?

We have Google Fi so I'm used to our devices working abroad - but it doesn't sound like calling/texting will work on the Ace in Europe.

But will really anything work? Trying to decide if it's even worth bringing with us on the trip.

Thanks!

Hello @hopkinsusenest and welcome to the Community.  Here is a statement from the Ace LTE Help article: To buy, set up or use a Fitbit Ace LTE or the Fitbit Ace app you must be in the United States ...   I added the emphasis to use.  I don't think it will work.  If I get more information, I will respond to this post.

Hi @hopkinsusenest - Just to add onto @LZeeW's response, the location tracking, calling and messages won't work outside of the United States. You should still be able to track the move goal and play the games though.

Enjoy your trip to Europe!

Thanks for the reply. I'm just trying to find out WHAT will work. I assume time and step tracking will work. What about if I connect it to a wifi network in Europe. Will everything work then?

Great news @hopkinsusenest! I just heard back from one of the product managers and they said “If a contact already has the app and travels overseas, they can continue communicating with the child/device.” The only thing that won’t work is trying to add new contacts that are outside the US.

Looks like you’re good to go!!

@MrVacca Thanks. But I assume in your scenario my kid is in the US and I'm in Europe. For our trip, we will both be together in Europe 🙂

Hey @hopkinsusenest - Great question - I just sent a message to the team to clarify if it will work when both of you are there and will keep you posted as soon as I hear back.

Hey @hopkinsusenest - I haven’t heard yet from Google themselves about it but another product expert, @RiekoC said that she doesn’t believe the call/text feature is going to work when you both head across the ocean. If I hear anything differently, I promise to update this post.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!

Hello @hopkinsusenest

Please see the note in this Ace LTE help article (<-- click link). It states that the LTE coverage is limited to the USA. Even if you connect to a WiFi network while you're overseas, the Ace Pass is currently not supported outside of the USA.

There's a feature request in the Product Feedback forum to make the Ace Pass available internationally (<-- click link). Please consider adding your vote & comments to this feature request. The developers monitor this forum to see what features are being requested for potential future implementation.

@hopkinsusenest   There is an interesting new thread in the forum from a user traveling abroad.  LINK  The app doesn't seem to update the time on the device.  I sent feedback to Google, but it could take some time to get an answer.
