Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch. I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location. My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.
So, does anyone have it working properly? I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working. And could you also describe how it works? I have the following questions:
How and when does it sync? I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth. Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with? And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync? Is the frequency something you can set?
Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors. If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.
And so on. Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with. I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.
Thanks again!

You mean, just tap on the checkmark, and it'll "deselect" the Weather app?
Did you actually try that? Yeah, sure, I can tap on the checkmark, but that just takes you into the Weather app, same as if you tapped anywhere else on the app's "row." It sure didn't "deselect" the app, whether I synced up with the Ionic or not. Dang, I was hoping that would work. By all means, if there's something other than "tapping on the checkmark" that you're getting at, please describe what you've been able to do. But the checkmark simply appears to show which of the apps are actually installed, and isn't a means to uninstall the apps that don't have an uninstall option, once you go into them.

Yes, Strava has an "Install" button that becomes an "Uninstall" button once you install it. The Weather app has no such thing -- it has a "grayed out" button that says "Installed." There is no way to uninstall it, which is what I've been saying all along. Trust me, if I could simply uninstall it and reinstall it, I would have done that about twenty hours ago, rather than spending those hours beating my head against a virtual brick wall.

Same again. Why don't you try the Weather app, which we're talking about here? You can try it a thousand times, but there is no "uninstall" option, there is no "remove" option -- it just says "Installed."

I respect your determination.... you're like a pitbull with this watch and all the road blocks it's given you 😮
But I have to wonder, at this stage of it's release is it really worth all this time and stress? You can always return the watch and just wait a while for them to (hopefully) iron the bugs out.
I would never fight an expensive watch this much, for 300 bucks plus tax you shouldn't have to.
I spent 3 days fighting my surge before I took it back to the store. And that was just evenings.

Well, I am a very literate computer user, going back to my first home computer in the days of iOS and then the early days of Windows. Yes, the Ionic in several ways just doesn't work very well, though I've been in this forum as people first started getting their hands on it, and I was aware that people were having plenty of difficulties before I decided to head out to Best Buy and join the misery, myself. I certainly am critical of Fitbit for providing insanely little in the way of documentation, and even hiding the full user manual on its web site with a link to it utterly buried at the very bottom of its "How to use" document. If it just simply worked easily as it should have, it would have been ok, but obviously people are going a long way to figure out how to get things to work. All of the suggestions people have offered about the Weather app is a very good example of how Fitbit just doesn't offer hardly any proper documentation at all. Where on Earth is the "Oh, you have to go out, turn the GPS on, and let that sync with your Ionic first," and so on? But I've been in forums like this for over 30 years, and groups of people like this have always managed to figure just about anything out.
But what anyone needs to comprehend about Fitbit is how a lot of its users truly need their devices. I am a heart attack and triple-bypass heart surgery survivor with Type 2 diabetes, and I have been recording my daily progress with Fitbit devices and other information on a very detailed spreadsheet for many, many years. I have tried other brands, but just take "sleep tracking" as an example -- I sure haven't found anything else that's even in the ballpark that Fitbit plays in. I'm frankly quite happy with my Charge 2, but it just leaves a bit to be desired as a "watch" -- if nothing else, just having the same functionality with a watch face that I can easily and reliably read will make the Ionic worth the price, to me. And really, I've got my Ionic working properly, except for this dang Weather app, which has always been 100% unresponsive. But it's not like I don't walk out the door without seeing weather information from the TV, my phone, and other means -- I don't really need it on my wrist. But again, I would really just like to know what the temperature outside is at any given time. Is that too much to ask? Well, so far....
I think I have done everything that anybody has ever suggested -- getting the GPS to work, and on and on and on, yet the Weather app remains 100% non-responsive. I think it's like the app simply didn't get installed fully, or something like that -- utterly nothing is helping, whatsoever. My thinking is it goes back to my decision to set up and install my Ionic with a Windows 10 notebook computer, with Windows 10 popping up in here as being a relatively common denominator for those who haven't been able to get the Weather app to work. Certainly, I didn't set the Ionic up with the device that it ultimately needs to work with every day -- my phone. So, at this point, I think I'm simply going to have to do a factory reset, and try, try again -- but this time, setting it up with my phone. Absolutely, utterly nothing else has managed to wake this dang Weather app up for me, so it's time to clear off my schedule, and spend quite a few hours going through the setup routine one more time.
In the end, I'm really quite happy with the Ionic so far, and would be entirely satisfied if only I could get the Weather app to work. Given that I now know that the weather information will sync up quite often, I think the app would do what I want it to do -- so I'm now willing to blow up the whole setup work done so far, and try, try again. I have tried a number of smart watches in the past, and I haven't even been able to get a simple watch face to work that I liked -- and I'm very happy with the "Moment" watch face with a blue background and white text, so it not only is a Fitbit device that I want to remain with, but it works very well as a "watch." So, you bet, the Ionic is the wrist device I want, and it's worth a bit more work if I can indeed get the dang Weather app to work some day. It's certainly worth another try with the setup routine.

I was fighting with exactly the same thing. Like you I simply could not get weather working, unlike you I had set my Ionic up with an android phone. I was about to give up until I did a reinstall of the app and went into my app permissions on the phone. Low and behold, location was off... I turned that on, rebooted the ionic and the phone, and now I have weather working.

Oh, how I wish it could be that simple. But I have always had location services on, I knew I had location services on, and it was the first thing I checked when I couldn't get the Weather app to work. And yes, I went into the permissions for the Fitbit app, and confirmed that "location" was allowed. Of course, it all was on, it's all still on, and the Weather app still remains 100% non-responsive.

My weather app is not working right either. I seem to get weather once during the day then at some point it craps out and says I need to sync to update the weather. No matter how many times I sync the weather app shows dashed lines. I'm not sure if I have to let the GPS locate where I am or what but at some point I get weather back for a little while then it craps out again. I'm using windows phone 950 and everything works except weather and payments.

Just spoke to Vanessa "my Hero" at Fitbit. Seems like you and I as well as others have been having issues with the weather app.
1. Uninstall the Fitbit app from your phone.
2. Go to the app store and download the app again. Log in to your account again: email, password. Once you log in it should ask you for location permission . Check the necessary boxes.
3. Go to the app section and go to weather and then settings, now here is the key, type in your location but before you do make sure the "watch" is opened into the weather app. as well. Now type in your location and it should woek

Hey @SunsetRunner I found that this is because the location in the Fitbit app is not granted as a permission.
To solve this (And I bet you have an Android phone) you will need to uninstall the app, add it again and grant the location services once the Fitbit app ask you for that. Then while adding the city in the weather app settings, you must have the Weather app open in the watch also so it can show up.
I hope this helps you as it worked for me.

My weather app was working up until I did a reset of my new Ionic last night. As of the reset, the Ionic does track my sleep and showed my run from Sunday, but now the weather app won't work.
It was great! I could see the weather in my town on an hourly basis, so I knew what the temperature would be at any given time I wanted to run. I hope the software updates that Fitbit is working on fix this ASAP. Hopefully we won't have to wait very long for a fix.

Weather app now works. It is important to 'Keep' the app open on the watch, while entering the zip codes. Once sync'd everything just works.

Big news: I finally got the Weather app working! Your post wasn't really "the solution," but it got me thinking more about "the app on my phone," and less about "the Ionic device." I was actually planning on doing a "factory reset" and then re-doing everything -- removing the Ionic from my account, uninstalling every Fitbit app on every device, and so on. But your post got me thinking along the lines of "You know, I don't think I've tried uninstalling the Fitbit app on my phone and reinstalling it," so I tried that, and that was the trick -- when I had it reinstalled, I just had to log in, make sure it did a sync with the Ionic, then I went into the Weather app's settings -- and then I finally got a list of city names when I started inputting my city. And it worked just fine, just like that.
It remains to be seen if I'll have any problems like others have mentioned, but at least I got the thing to work, finally. And I'll have to re-read the stuff about how it syncs with the phone -- I would really like to some better control over it than "oh, you'll just get an update when you get a notification." I suppose you could go to your phone and have it sync with the Ionic, but that's nonsense -- you could just look at your phone and get the information you need.
At one point in time during all of this, I had my "app notifications" set for my e-mail app, and I figured it wasn't worth the bother, since all you could see were the headers -- so I turned that notification off. But now, "oh, turn that back on, so I'll get more e-mail reminders, just so I can have the Weather app updated more often." I'm not so sure that's the best way to go. But for now, I'm just glad I've got it working, and I'll see what kind of control I'll be able to keep over it, later.
Thanks for your message -- it certainly got me headed in the right direction!

This is relatively what worked for me -- just uninstall and reinstall the app. In the end, it should have been a bit more obvious to me -- I was always focusing on the Ionic device, but it was really the Fitbit app that wasn't working. I'm pretty sure that I didn't have my Ionic showing the Weather app at the time I did any of the reinstall -- I just uninstalled, reinstalled, logged in, set the permissions, then I did a sync with my Ionic. Then, I went into the Weather app settings, and for the first time ever, it showed a list of cities as I started typing my city's name in, and I was able to select my city. Then I did another sync with my Ionic, and launched the Weather app -- and it worked just fine. And that's what worked for me.

Actually, I finally did get the Weather app to work. And yes, this is Android. As for "location," there is the overall Location Services on the phone, and you actually can go into the Settings app on the phone, go to the Apps settings, then find the Fitbit app, and then into the "Permissions," wherein "Location" is one of them. On my phone, both the overall Location Services and the Fitbit app's location permission were enabled. However, in the end, what got it all to work was indeed to uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app on my phone, and then I was able to get a list of cities to choose from, as I started typing in a city in the Weather app's settings.
As for having the Weather app open on the Ionic while doing all of this, I didn't do that -- I had the watch on my arm, showing the clock face, while I did the uninstall / reinstall routine. I did make sure to do a sync between the app and my Ionic before going into the Weather app's settings, and then I did another sync after setting my location. And then I went into the Weather app, and it worked just fine.
But that's what finally worked for me.

My weather app intermittently as well. Not what I thought would be the behavior for a $300 smart watch. if I have to go to my phone and sync with the watch, I can open my weather channel app easier. It will be faster than waiting for the watch to sync. I don't leave all day sync on so I can save battery.
Sometimes weather is there, sometimes not. I was hoping for a smart watch, but it seems that the technology is not ready for us yet.....
