How to get the Weather app to sync?

ANSWERED

Ok, I have tried everything, short of totally "burning down the house" -- doing a factory reset with the Ionic, deleting it from my Fitbit account, uninstalling every instance of the Fitbit software, and then hoping that it might magically make the Weather app work if I start everything from scratch.  I have tried everything short of that, and it simply, utterly will not work when I try to input a city name, and it will not work with my phone's current location.  My Weather app is as dead as a piece of software can be dead.

So, does anyone have it working properly?  I would like to know if it actually works halfway well, before I destroy everything else that I've got working.  And could you also describe how it works?  I have the following questions:

How and when does it sync?  I presume it syncs with your phone, and presumably via Bluetooth.  Is that correct, or might it only sync with whatever Wi-Fi connection you used to set the Ionic up with, to begin with?  And if it does sync via Bluetooth on your phone, how often does it sync?  Is the frequency something you can set?

Mainly, I'm wondering if you can pop into the Weather app, and halfway reliably see what the local temperature is outdoors.  If it only syncs once per hour or less frequent, then I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort.

And so on.  Thanks in advance for letting me know how it works, because I really dread going through the factory reset routine, because I went through a nightmare to get my Ionic set up to begin with.  I really don't want to go through that, if it's not likely to work, or if the app is actually quite lame, and not worth the effort to begin with.

Thanks again!

Hey there @Winston11! I'm glad to hear that your Weather app started syncing after uninstalling and reinstalling it.

You can remove many of the apps installed on your watch, although some apps, such as Today and Settings, can't be removed.

I'll be around if you need further assistance!

Hi,
No, I’m periodically checking to see if the Weather app has been fixed, but it hasn’t yet.
The Weather app cannot be removed/uninstalled. There is no other app for weather on the Ionic, AFAIK. In any case, the fitbit Weather app was great while it worked.

To reiterate, there is a weather app that works quite well on the ionic. Search the clock faces for “pWeather”. It works well.
It also tells you when it was updated, so if you think that the current weather isn’t correct, just find out when it last updated.
Then merely change the face by scrolling down to bring up the fitbit icon and wait until it disappears then push any button until pweather reappears.
I find what works better is to hold down the “back” button so that the manual/auto screen appears then switch it back.
If you want the weather forecast, I’ve found that the weather app stays in sync with pWeather.

Update: I didn’t delete it. I changed the standard clock face to pWeather. You can search for it in the clockface app.

The pWeather clockface shows what “municipality” it’s in. Shows the temperature at that location, tells you when it was last updated. There are a lot of options to select.
There are times when it fails to switch to your new location, but it’s easy to coax it to change. I’ve found that the weather app updates along with the pWeather.

Hi @SunsetRunner, it's nice to see you here! Thanks for already troubleshooting this inconvenience on your own. Nice way to go!

While reading your post I was wondering what's the model of the mobile phone you're syncing with? Can you please check if the phone appears listed in the article: Which phones and tablets can I use with my Fitbit watch or tracker?

If the weather for your current location doesn’t appear, check that you turned on location services for the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I allow the Fitbit app to use my phone's GPS?

If you change locations, sync your device to see your new location in the Weather app.

Hope that helps, I'll be around!

Hi @MarreFitbit thank you for replying to my post.

I have the huawei p10 lite which i cannot seem to find it either to compatible or incompatible... Only p10 is considered compatible so i am assuming p10 lite is also.

Location services is on , i have tried to sync multiple times , i have even reboot and clear data , i have unistalled and reinstalled fitbid app, i have even crated a new account and linked it to the charger 3. nothing works. stuck in hethersett.

I am not even able to add another location as the list is remains constantly blank...

Any other ideas?

Thanks for getting back @SunsetRunner! I'm afraid to say that P10 Lite is not yet a compatible device. Due to Bluetooth issues that prevent certain devices, like Fitbit devices, from syncing, our products aren't compatible. That's would be the explanation of why the Weather is not syncing to your tracker.

Note that the devices on this article have been confirmed as fully compatible with all features of Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app. While a phone or tablet may not be verified as fully compatible, the Fitbit app may still work with your device.

Our team routinely test new devices to ensure full compatibility with Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app, and are constantly working to confirm compatibility with new phone models. Be sure to verify that your phone meets the minimum operating system requirements. Also, it would be great if you take a look at the article: Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

Please keep in mind that when a device is not supported we cannot guarantee its functionality with the Fitbit app. It might work at a certain time and then it can stop working out of nowhere after an update. This is because the app is not optimized to that device and any change could impact the performance.

Let me know if there's anything else I may assist you with.

@MarreFitbit thank you very much for your answer. Very disappointing, although it is not such a new model and since p10 is compatible... anyway

I guess i'll be returning the product anyway. I travel a lot and i want accurancy, especially for that ammount of money paid.

It's nice to see you around here @Kevintan! Thanks for letting me know those details. Can you please also let me know what's the model of the phone you're syncing with?

As mentioned along this thread. If the weather for your current location doesn’t appear, check that you turned on location services for the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I allow the Fitbit app to use my phone's GPS?

If you change locations, sync your device to see your new location in the Weather app.

To change the units used for the temperature in the Weather app:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the gear icon next to Weather. You may need to scroll down to find the app.
  4. In the Temperature Unit section, tap Units and choose the unit you want to use.
  5. Sync your device and then open the Weather app on your device to see the updated units.

Hope this helps, keep me in the loop!

My weather app was working perfectly until a few days ago.  Now it just displays a --C, and a message to Sync the fitbit mobil app to update.

I have followed the steps on this thread, but the watch is not syncing the weather app.  It continues to display --C, even though I changed to Fahrenheit.

The weather app on the Fitbit ionic is terrible. It works for a few weeks and then it stops working. I get a message that says sync it with the app which I do. Doesn’t fix it then I reinstall the app on my phone. Doesn’t fix it. Then I reset my phone. Doesn’t fix it. Why bother? An Apple Watch would be better.

I’ll repeat myself. Give up on the Fitbit built-in weather app.
Go to clock faces area of Fitbit on your phone. Search for pWeather. Install. It works!
Granted, you have to tap the screen once to get your fitness data, but the weather (pWeather) works. Always in sync. Indicates in 24 hour format when it last synced.
It tells you what city you are in. It also has day of week, date, and of course the time. The background changes according to weather conditions and time of day.
I fail to understand why so many Ionic users are complaining......if the weather app doesn’t work, use something else that does work.

I actually followed your guidance already, and am using this clock face. The weather app gives a forecast and more info, so I want it to work as well.
