Strava Authorization state: Not Authorized

Hello.

I got my Ionic a few days ago and I have a bit of a problem with getting Strava app to work. I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question or it should be posted in Windows phone app section.

This is my hardware:

Fitbit Ionic

Windows 10 mobile on Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

When I open settings of Strava app on my phone Fitbit app, I click on Authorize and then I'm asked to log in with my Strava loggin passwords. I do that I'm shown another window (picture 2) where I can click on authorize or cancel. I click on authorize and then I'm thrown back (picture 1) to Strava app settings and it says it's not authorized.

I can authorize Strava - Fitbit connection if I do it on my PC on a Fitbit dashboard there. Then Strava is authorized and data from my run activity was transfered to my Strava account.

But the app on my Ionic just say "no recent activity" as it still says on my phone app that Strava isn't authorized.

How can I make this app working?

@Shepden there currently appears to be an issue with authorising the app. Another user also repoted this yesterday. It's  worth keeping an eye on this thread  over on the Fitbit App Gallery board too.

I have the same problem. Strava and Fitbit are connected and runs/rides logged in Fitbit via my Ionic show up immediately in the Strava app on my phone (Huawei P10), so both accounts are properly linked. But the Strava app on my Ionic appears to be not connected/authorised, at least this is what the Fitbit app says.

If I try to connect the Ionic Strava app via the Fitbit app on my phone for the first time (eg after deleting the Fitbit app on my phone or Strava app on my Ionic) it takes me briefly to strava.com where I am prompted to login and then goes automatically to app-settings.fitbitdevelopercontent.com but nothing happens - the Fitbit app goes back to the settings for the Strava app on my Ionic and shows that the Strava app is not authorised. Afterwards when clicking 'authorise' on the Fitbit app again l it jumps automatically to both websites and ends back in the Fitbit app, still saying the Strava app on the Ionic is not authorised.

Now, interestingly the Strava app on the Ionic sometimes shows my activities, sometimes says I need to connect to an account, and sometimes simply closes without doing anything. So very erratic behaviour and all while the Fitbit app says that the Strava on Ionic is not authorised.

Hello, my ionic is not syncing with strava. I’ve tried deleting apps and also disconnecting the link. Now I can’t reconnect Fitbit and strava at all.

Welcome on board @Liam12 and @Joannanev, it's nice to see you around here! To resolve the problem with Strava, please make sure you have connected your Strava account to Fitbit. For instructions to link them please visit this article.

Then, please follow these instructions:

  • From the Fitbit app tap the Ionic icon > Apps > My Apps
  • Tap the gear icon next to Strava > Authorize
  • Login to your Strava account > Authorize

If you haven't done so; please follow these troubleshooting steps in order to sort this out.  You can try them again if you already did after performing a restart on your watch (search the Strava instructions on that article).

If you did and still no luck; please try using a different network to connect the Strava app on your Fitbit watch. You can use a home or work network. This could help you out with this.

For information about what data will be transferred between your accounts please check out this post.

Thanks for your help and input guys @Tony.r and @Rich_Laue!

Let me know if there's anything else I may assist you with.

I'll have to look for the post @MarreFitbit but last week a Fitbit user contacted Strava and they confirmed that there is an issue with logging into the users account through the Ionic and Versa Strava App.

Do you have a way to confirm if this has been rectified?

I'm currently still unable to log in also.

Hi @Rich_Laue, thanks for pointing this out. Smiley Very Happy We haven't received any reports about logging issues. Did the user contact Strava or Fitbit directly?

I'm having problems finding the post, but yes the user said that this came from contacting  Strava not Fitbit.

I have been having this exact problem since I purchased by versa 5 days ago. So frustrating!! I've done all the troubleshooting. Re-install, reboot in every combo. I can get both websites to says authorized and the Strava app says authorized but cannot for the life of me get the Fitbit app to say authorized. Ugh

I have the exact same issue with a brand new versa. I have reached out to both Fitbit and Strava support. Each have provided suggestions for unlinking and relinking in every different order. Rebooting phone and watch at different times. Still nothing. I even did a factory reset on the watch which almost bricked the Fitbit. Sooo frustrated.

@MattFitbit  my problem is that when I try to log in, I'm taken to a page on Strava. I log into me Strava account on this page and get tossed back to the login page in the app he t I just left.

Nothing changes and I still have the message to log into my Strava account.

@Rich_Laue Try making the connection at strava.fitbit.com on your web browser.   After that the phone app will probably still say not authorised, but the web based fitbit dashboard should confirm they you have read write access to strava.  For me the ionic ap then syncs shortly after I do a manual sync using the phone ap.

Making the connection on the web browser, @Iain_K is connecting the the users Strava account with their Fitbit account. Yes this works fine.

The issue is that I'm unable to log into my Strava account through the Strava app. Which happens to be on my fotbit device.

This is not a Strava / Fitbit connection issue but a login issue.

Example:

Let's say I install the Strava app on the phone.

I then put my log in details into the log in screen of the Strava App, I am 100% sure that everything is typed in correctly, yet the App only returns to the login page with no explanation.

@Rich_Laue Sounds like you reinstalled the ionic strava app and now it wont accept the strava login details through the fitbit app link on your phone right?

I'm presuming you have the Strava app on your phone too and can log into strava and fitbit  on your phone without any problems?

Is the run data making it from your Fitbit Ionic into Strava at all or is the problem getting the new data to show on the Ionic?

If you login and check https://www.fitbit.com/settings/applications in a web browser does it show Strava access + write allowed?  It should if you have used the strava.fitbit.com link above.

Mine still shows no authorization in the iphone fitbit app and wont let me login to Strava that way, but since linking via browser it will at least link the data back to the Ionic Strava app when I do a manual sync on the phone. Sometimes it takes a while or there is a delay in processing. The weird thing is the majority of the data is syncing automatically between ionic and phone anyway, runs show up immediately in the Strava app on the phone or browser, but to get the Strava app on the Ionic itself to update it needs that manual swipe on the Fitbit app to trigger it.

This all kind of sucks as in an ideal world it should be seamless to check run times against previous runs on the same route etc immediately after finishing, without having to jump through hoops using the phone to force the information to update.  I might try just leaving it next time and seeing if the data updates on its own given enough time.  Overall though I think this definiely qualifies as a "first world problem";)

Same issue, done all troubleshooting and even tried from Windows app, android and from another android device .

When you go to the fitbit app and click the gear icon next to strava and then click the 'airhorize' button, it loads https://app-settings.fitbitdevelopercontent.com/ for a split second and then reverts back to the previous screen again. It's like it's trying to launch the login sever for strava to link to fitbit but it's not responding so it's just closing and doing nothing.

>> it is possible to link strava to fitbit via their website but this is not the same link. This does NOT allow you to use the Strava app on your Ionic, nor does it create a link from your Ionic within the Fitbit app.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

purchashed Ionic 2 days again for running with Strava app. Got an iPhone 8 Plus. When I try to authorise through the Fitbit app it opens a web browser, I then click to login through Facebook. Then enter password at which point it gives and ok/cancel option to open with Fitbit app. Click ok and it takes you back to the Fitbit app still stating not authorised. Then you just get caught in a circle. All my Strava app says on my Ionic when I open it is ‘no recent activity...  record a run to see a list of your recorded activity’s here’ and that’s it! You can’t do anything else on the screen on the Ionic to record a run!?

can someone help or I’m sending this back and getting an Apple Watch!
