Strava Authorization state: Not Authorized

Hello.

I got my Ionic a few days ago and I have a bit of a problem with getting Strava app to work. I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question or it should be posted in Windows phone app section.

This is my hardware:

Fitbit Ionic

Windows 10 mobile on Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

When I open settings of Strava app on my phone Fitbit app, I click on Authorize and then I'm asked to log in with my Strava loggin passwords. I do that I'm shown another window (picture 2) where I can click on authorize or cancel. I click on authorize and then I'm thrown back (picture 1) to Strava app settings and it says it's not authorized.

I can authorize Strava - Fitbit connection if I do it on my PC on a Fitbit dashboard there. Then Strava is authorized and data from my run activity was transfered to my Strava account.

But the app on my Ionic just say "no recent activity" as it still says on my phone app that Strava isn't authorized.

How can I make this app working?

The Strava app on the Versa now shows my Strava account as authorized. The Strava web app showed the Fitbit account as linked when the Fitbit/Versa app did not.

I have tried it all!! and it wont work.

The strava app for android is complete garbage and wont sync with the fitbit no matter what. Don't waste your time and just uninstall it and save your self the grief. Both strava and fitbit know their products are defective but don't care to fix them or communicate with you about them. I guess it's what you get when google buys your company out.

@Bobkatpollo This thread is not about the Strava app for Android, which does not sync directly with Fitbit*, but about the Strava App for your Fitbit tracker.

@Starkaryen the web shows that your Strava Account and your Fitbit account or connected.

The Strava App on the tracker has nothing to do with this connection.

The Versa Strava app is simply a small dashboard that needs to be connected to your Strava account. This is like you logging into your Strava account through your Phones Strava App or logging into your Fitbit account through your Fitbit app.

*Your Strava account syncs with your Fitbit account. If this is giving problems, please revoke access to Strava and setup the link again. If this doesn't work, please contact Fitbit.

@Rich_Laue 6 months now since my previous post!

I continued to have problems with the Strava app on the Versa and it simply was not updating with any of my activities. I continued to have Bluetooth connectivity/syncing issues with the Versa and my Samsung Galaxy S9 and despite contacting Fitbit on multiple occasions was not given a solution to the problem, despite factory resetting the device multiple times and spending in excess of 10 hours in chats and countless more trawling forums for an answer. I was told that your team were aware of the issue and working towards a solution without a proposed completion date. I returned my Versa to the retailer as the level of customer support provided by Fitbit was wholly inadequate and the watch was not fit for the purposes I bought it for. I purchased a Garmin device instead, which has worked flawlessly with Strava and my phone, and I have not had any issues with it whatsoever.

Hello @Dawnn74 is this about your Fitbit / Strava hookup or about the Strava login on the tracker?

My connection dropped a week ago and won’t reconnect. I have uninstalled/reinstalled both the Strava and Fitbit apps. I have ensured both are connected online. I have ensured both are connected via the apps on my phone. Both apps are updated.

The current problem appears to be that when I authorize Strava to receive Fitbit data through the Fithit app, is says Authorized and shows my username info. I back out of that, reopen the app connection to Strava and it shows ‘not authorized’ immediately. In other words, the authorization is not remaining in place.  WTF?

We need to authorize your Strava account access to your fitbit account, this authorization is done through Strava.

Normally we would say to revoke access to Strava through Fitbit, then through Strava connect the two.

If this doesn't work we suggest contacting Strava.

Once connected, if it still doesn't sync, let's contact Fitbit.

However your question sounds like it is about syncing between the two accounts and not about the Fitbit app on the Ionic. Am I correct?

The answers on this thread are all very well and good but I can't link Strava and Fitbit using my PC.  There is no way that I can find of doing it.  I can link them if I do it from the apps on my phone but when I try and authorise strava on my watch from the fitbit app it kicks me out every time.  It says its authorised but when I leave  the settings page and it immediately kicks me out again so if I went back into settings it would show that its not authorised.

This is a problem I had when I first got my Ionic 3YEARS AGO!  I can't believe that in 3 years it hasn't been sorted.  Totally ridiculous!

Are you trying to link your Strava Account to your Fitbit account, so that your Fitbit GPS recorded exert isles will transfer to your Strava account? This connection only needs to be done once if you did it on the phone, you are good. The reason is be cause the connection is between your Fitbit account and your Strava Account. Your phone and computer are out of the picture.

If you connected the two accounts through the phone no need to connect through the computer.

If you are asking about the the Strava app on the Fitbit tracker. This also only needs to be done only once and can only be done through the Fitbit app.

I am also having problems with Fitbit authorising Strava even though I have gone through the linked and signed in multiple times. Is there way round this?

Hi, yes I did get it sorted out but unhelpfully I am not entirely sure
how. I followed all the steps several times and after about a million
tries to worked. You have to take Strava off and add it back on from your
computer, not from the phone.

I have the same problem as @Tomaz32. I have already linked my Fitbit account and Strava account by following the article you mentioned, and the authorization state still says, "Not Authorized". I have tried logging in multiple times already, but it won't work. I was able to log in once a while ago, then it logged me out and I can't get back in. Please help!

Hi Tomaz, and everyone else! (It appears there are a lot of people with this issue)

I have just purchased a Fitbit Versa, and I have also just had the pleasure of wrestling with this painful Authorization issue.

I actually managed to get the flipping thing Authorized, here's how I did it:

1. Uninstall Strava from 'My Apps' in the FitBit App.
2. Now go to 'All Apps', search for Strava and re-install it again.
3. Once installed, click 'Permissions', allow all tick boxes.
4. Now click 'Settings', now log in. (This time it worked for me)

HOWEVER, despite now being 'authorized' on both Fitbit/Strava and Strava/Fitbit. After resyncing, my FitBit Versa display still tells me that I need to log-in to Strava on the FitBit app. Very Frustrating.

Anyway, I just wanted to share where I got to in case it helps someone else, somehow.

Cheers
Michael

@ChillerKern we have 2 separate unrelated links here.

The first one you mention is the link between your Fitbit account and your Strava account. This is how your Fitbit activity gears sent to Strava.

The second, not authorized is the Strava Dashboard on your tracker. This dashboard needs to be logged into your Strava account.

See the best answer above for how to log in.
