2,019 Miles in 2019

ANSWERED

Hello all!  The New Year is upon us very soon!  How fun would it be to walk/run/move 2,019 miles in the year 2019?!

2,019 miles =

5.53 miles per day

38.82 miles per week

168.25 miles per month

For me, if I walk 5.5 miles, it's around 13K steps.  Running is a bit less, around 10,500 steps.

Let's use this thread to track our mileage and smash our goals!  Happy New Year!

Since the web-based dashboards have been decommissioned by Fitbit, I created a group in the Fitbit app.  I'm not sure if you're able to search for custom groups, but if you'd like an invite, you can shoot me a message and I'll send you a friend request so then I can invite you.

@Heather-S   Thanks for the link.  I joined and found that some stats have already been posted.  Does this officially start Jan 1, 2019?

Best Answer

@J-flex Yep!  It's just going to show December stats for now, but officially starting January 1!  I'll be posting in this thread regularly as well to update my progress also and anyone else is welcome to post here as well!

Sounds very ambitious but a good way to start the new year! Count me in, and everyone, help keep me in check!

I love the idea of this but not sure my job is active enough for me to walk 5 miles per day! 😕

@MultiMartin Mine isn't either (desk job), but I'm hoping the days I run will average it out.  On my running days, I usually get a total of around 7 miles and on work days, it's usually around 4.5 miles.  So I think those running days will make up for the non-run days.

Also, I like to have a few days a year where I step A LOT.  For example, yesterday I ended up with over 23K steps and 10 miles because I ran, did a ton of walking around at a casino, and went to a concert.

On January 1st, my goal is 20K to give me a little head start.

I think you can do it!

@Heather-S Is there a quick way to see how many steps you have done in a particular year?

@MultiMartin If you go to the Fitbit web dashboard (fitbit.com/dashboard), you can see your lifetime stats, but then if you hover toward the bottom of the tile, you'll get an option to "See More" and then you can sort all the data by day, week, month, year -- however you want to see it.

2,019 miles = 3,249km.

A very ambitious goal I must say.

I have accomplished just over 1/3 of that goal in kilometers for 2018.

Thank you, @Heather-S!  I’m in!  Gotta admit that I checked my 2018 miles before joining to see if I am in the ballpark.  Smiley Wink

Hi all, I'm 68, a retired research scientist living in the front range of the Rockies about 30 miles west of Denver. Being retired gives me the time, location gives the opportunity -  I am currently taking somewhere on the order of 20-25k steps a day (avg ~12 mi/day), mostly walking but enough jogging/running to maintain the skills.

2018 miles graph.pngI guess the difficulty of the goal for this group depends on the viewing direction. I'll finish 2018 with a bit over 5200 miles. I'm actually trying to keep it down, as I have a knee that is complaining a bit - no more of those long continuous-duty days. Maybe double the goal???

@checking That's awesome!  I just can't do 20K+ a day.  With my desk job, it's just not possible unless I hit the gym twice a day.  Sometimes I can get around 17K if I did a long run in the morning first.

But that's really inspiring!

@Heather-S, yep no way around having to devote 2 - 3 hrs/day to running/walking, in addition to fairly aggressive 'life steps' (5K-ish), but I bet you can find one day a week where you can hit 25-30k as you get ready for the 1/2 M. Smiley Happy
