2,020 Miles in 2020

Hello all!  The New Year is upon us very soon!  The annual goal to run/walk/move 2,020 miles for the year 2020 is right around the corner.

As luck would have it, 2020 is a Leap Year, which means we have an extra day to complete our goal which is ever so slightly easier than last year's goal.  Your daily goal is slightly lower, but the weekly and monthly goal slightly increases.

2,020 miles =

5.51 miles per day

38.84 miles per week

168.33 miles per month

Since Fitbit decommissioned the old web-based groups, I created a group in the Fitbit app instead.  I will be renaming the current 2019 group to reflect the New Year of 2020 later next week to minimize the amount of invites I have to send out to everyone.  So if you're already a part of the 2019 group in the Fitbit, you don't need to do anything!

If you would like to join the 2020 group in the Fitbit app and you're not already apart of the 2019 group, please let me know here and I'll send you a friend request.  Once you accept, I can add you to the group.

Would love to be in with you on this challenge.

Was hoping to do a 2600 year, but with the snow and ice and sore achilles at the moment, this might be more manageable.

Thank you,

Hi FinanceBabe,  I would love to join the 2020 challenge if it's not too late.  I've done similar challenges in the past and it's always great fun to connect with other runners/walkers.

@3WRYRY Thanks!  It's actually a small part of a much larger spreadsheet that I use to track every single day of the month.  I can send you my main spreadsheet and you can copy it and adapt it to your needs if you want.  Just send me a private message with your email address.

I can also just send you a template of that one sheet you're seeing in my screenshot if you'd prefer that.  🙂

As someone not good with Excel and only have a Fitbit device for less than a year. I want to keep track of my progress with a spreadsheet. Do you keep you daily stats in one huge sheet or do you have them by the month? Not sure which way is easier to combine and look at the data down the road.

So is everyone entering steps per day?  I was going to enter only my runs.  I average around 35-40,000 a day (none of which come from picking my nose)  so I knew I would reach 2020 in short time.  I have done challenges in past years where you only document the actual miles run or walked.  Guess people can pick and choose what works.  It works out to about 39 miles a week, so far I'm on track.  I will have overage on marathon weeks but figure it will even out.    Way to go everyone on getting/staying healthy!! 🙂

I wear mine on the ankle so hand movements do not enter into the equation.

I wear mine on the ankle when I'm pushing the racing chair so it's true to steps taken. Rest of the time I wear on wrist so some "steps" are hand moving.  I'm going to go with my actual run steps/miles but that's for me.  Everyone else can make their choices on what works for them.  As long as we keep moving and keep encouraging each other, we all win.

@sn2019 I actually keep a large spreadsheet that has each month of the year in different tabs. Then I enter in my daily steps, miles, and floors and then those totals flow into another sheet that displays my yearly summaries. I can compare each year, each month easily this way.

Here is the view-only link to my sheet. You’re welcome to explore it and make a copy of the sheet and use it for yourself.  😊

I've got to say that I love your spreadsheet, although I think you are making it tough on yourself for February.  Being the crazy person I am, on my sheet I even took into account the days in the month when working out how many steps and miles I needed, LOL!!!!

Take care,

Best Answer

@Simon65 I think February will be easy enough, especially since it's 29 days and not 28.  The total needed is an average for the month and of course doing more one month and less on another can cancel itself out.  February shouldn't be too bad, I usually do between 13-15K steps a day, so I get extra on most days anyway.  🙂

Despite being sick with the flu for a solid week at the start of the year, I came back strong to finish January!  Got a nice head start for the year, but definitely won't be resting any time soon.

@Patrick Great job!  That's some solid mileage!
