How do women over 60 get in shape?

Hi all!  I am starting this thread to help all the ladies from our old forum get started up again over here in the new place.  Hope you all find this thread.  Getting in shape after 60 has its own challenges especially when you have lost muscle, have slowed metabolism and hormone changes.  How are you getting and staying fit?  What s working for you?

Bobbye,

I completely understand your frustration and it sounds like you are doing everything right.  I'm assuming your doctor has checked your thyroid to make sure it is functioning correctly?

Best of luck.

Thanks so much Shelley for reinstating our discussion group. I have missed all the info-sharing and encouragement we received in the prior group.

DottieF,

The emails with all the chit chat for those of us over 60 just disappeared. I saw Cherita here at this site, but not the others.

Hi,

I have the Fitbit Zip and I am curious about where others wear it during the day. I started wearing mine on my bra strap and then moved it to the waist band. But now I am wondering if it would be more accurate if I wore it on a sock or shoe?!? I have been trying to get in better shape since January and it has been very, very slow. And it is confusing on how to get accurate readings and log in the food accurately. I had used Fitness Pal a few years ago and it seemed to have a better food log so it was easier to log in food. I feel like I am guessing many times - especially when it is something homemade. Any others have these problems?

Shelly you sound so upbeat. I am here for my health. Pain is a great motivator I do not want it. I am loosing to steer clear of diabetes and for my back pain to stop pinching me. I am logging my food into my fitness pal.com. and teaching swimming 3 days a week. I am still trying to get back after foot surgery and become more active. I picked some friends but most are young people. I need someone to compete with on my level. The are all sweet but are 10x faster than me.

Just found this and looks like something I really need. Thanks for being here. I am 75 ( and can't believe I'm that old) still working as a REALTOR full time in Michigan. I have had to keep an eye on my weight since about 25 years old and found Fitbit through a friend. I have had this for about 1 1/2 years and got down really good when I first got it. Then Oh a little of this now won't hurt and next thing I know I'm back at the begining. Now for health reasons I have to watch what I eat and must do the things that will get me back in shape. I want to lose 22 more pounds and feel good again.Pain is my motivator at this point. Ice and snow has kept me from the gym alot this winter. So looking for support in no matter what is happening to get to the gym and eat the right way for me. Dr.says no bread, potatoes sugar ect. Fruits, veggies, and lean meats. Please someone keep me accountable. By myself I really have trouble. Too many enablers around here.

I usually get rid of the enablers if I can. I am 68 and have had my fit bit for 1 year and 2 months. I have had weight problems all my life. I joined all kinds of weight groups and when I lost my first 100 pounds, I was just jubilant, but weight management has not been my forte. It is so difficult to keep the weight off. Basically, just keep working at it and you will succeed.

Oh, husband. I have not had one of those in years. Divorced. I do have two children and one seems to need my assistance quite often, but no food. Maybe your husband will eat his enablers or probably snacks in another room or when you are not there. Just a suggestion.
