The Jumping June step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to sign up for July. Jaunty July? Yeah, well, it is super hot in the Northern hemisphere, and super cold in the Southern hemisphere, so it is best just to have a little attitude about your steps and get at it. 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I decided to simplify the tracking table. The 100,000 miles will fit on 67 sheets of paper. I should be able to find some wall space to post the tables.
Congrats on increasing your distance.
Nothing like skipping to put a grin on a person's face.
Gardens are great for generating NEAT exercise. It has gotten so hot here vegetables go right to seed. We can't even grow radishes anymore.

Missed posting yesterday, was planning on taking my son to a family play place and normally they are open until 10 pm but yesterday they were closing at 5 so I had to round us up and get going.
Thursday - 14016 steps, 2844 burn
Friday - 11599 steps, 3011 burn - 7 hours of mini golf and laser tag. Once through the rope course was enough for both of us -heights aren't really our thing but I sometimes have to work on ladders for work. I wish i had that kind of harnessing. And twice on the bumper boats armed with squirt guns because it really wasn't warm enough to get that wet. I think the steps record is a little low since two hands were involved in laser tag.
Today pretty much everything hurts. I kept up with the 11 year old yesterday and even got high score in laser tag twice. Today I need a massage.
Gardening is great NEAT. I really really need to work in mine.

Your friend will love it 😂
You are SO right about that, @WendyB! My husband and I have been telling him that for a couple of years. He has been worried about what he will do with all this free time, no fixed obligations. But within hours of leaving work for the last time he was a changed man! So relieved, so happy!!! It was comforting to know he is no longer in panic mode. 😅

Shooting for an average step count of 14 k, 7 miles, 30 floors per day, plus check in twice a week.
Well, after a banner week of high stats we had a town day. Char had a re-check on her cataract and she passed with flying colors. Then we had the monthly shopping lists in about 5 stores. It was 98 degrees and 60% humidity which stopped us from walking outside.
So, town day -- steps 7.2 k, 3.23 miles, 8 floors -- sad but true. When we got home at 6:15 it was 94 and muggy.
Now, day after town day -- steps 24.1 k, 11.2 miles, 45 floors! Char & I walked 2.2 miles, then NEAT work in the garden and more mowing. Have to train my horses to eat the grass where I want it mowed. It was a bit cooler so I was able to walk another 1.4 miles around 5 pm
Never did tell what my "jaunty" walk is. I walk backwards for 100 feet about every 1/4 mile. Get a few funny looks from a car or two.

@benvegi I used to run backwards periodically, it's good training!
I think around 11.5K steps yesterday and 2400 burn, fitbit didnt sync last night. Took an intentional rest day.
I looked at vacation coming up and since I wont have forum or scale access and may not be able to wear my fitbit some of the days I have decided that 7/29 is the last day of July and 8/6 will be the first day of August.
I can not believe it is almost August. Where does the summer go?

Looks like I haven't reported my numbers for a few days. Hit my goals on Friday and also got down to Artscape (annual art festival in Baltimore) to walk around a bit before seeing a movie with Jane and going for pizza after. Rained all day Saturday and I wound up short on my steps, but did get my 20th floor day and finished that goal for the month. And today I got back into the weight lifting routine after finishing up a rest week.
Here are a few pics from the festival:

@BaltoscottI would say that last picture definitely qualifies as a Jaunty Walk
15ish K steps yesterday, 2750ish burn.
Hot here, I may have to ditch the walk tomorrow in favor of early gardening. Hopefully that will do well on the burn if not the steps.
MTA: Regarding the bicycle safety conversation from the other day, it's harvest time here and the farm vehicles are out on the road and people are losing their stuff. Not quite so vehemently as with bikes because more acknowledge that farmers have a right to exist, but still think they should pull over every 5 seconds to let every car pass. And I realized I grew up following Amish buggies to school and later to work EVERY DAY not just 2 weeks in spring and summer and on nice weekends, so maybe that is why it's always just been inherent to be patient and let the cyclists do their thing and pass when I have a full lane.

@Ennay — Yikes! You are crushing my fantasy of Portland tolerance and cultural enlightenment. How the hell do people think all that stuff winds up at the farmers market they drive — or bike — to?
Fun excursion for a city kid ... pull over one day an watch a farmer working a field with a hay bailer that is pooping out giant bundles of hay one day. Cool.
Hit all goals today except floors.

It was a good day. I got involved in one of those 50,000 step average discussions and stumbled into a 23,839 step day without getting at all tired. I'm not sure how that happened. I seem to have blooped into another paradigm. Today will be lower as I have to do some work.
@Jotex, I'm also proud to be part of this group. Everyone has such interesting lives outside of or part of their exercise.
@Baltoscott, I like the mental image of hay poop. Someone should make a hay baler that looks like a big cow.
