The Jumping June step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to sign up for July. Jaunty July? Yeah, well, it is super hot in the Northern hemisphere, and super cold in the Southern hemisphere, so it is best just to have a little attitude about your steps and get at it. 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Hi @WendyB — I’ve never done this before, nor had so much dried lavender. So haven't really got a fixed idea. But will probably give them as gifts.

July 30
8,000 steps 12 days -- 13/12
15,000 steps 10 days -- 10/10
35 Jumping Jacks 22 days -- 22/22
Floor Exercises w/weights 12 days -- 10/12
As the month slowly draws to a close, I will fulfill all my goals except the floor exercises. Admittedly many days when I had to work hard to get 15,000 steps in I was often too tired to pull out the mat and weights to work out 💪🏻. Poor excuse I realize, but I’ll only be a day or two short of that goal = not too shabby. 😙.

That very outside chance of hitting my sleep goal fell apart last night. Only 5 hours. On the other hand, I got one more weight-lifting day in for the month. Counted wrong at some point and thought I had 12 days scheduled, but it was really 13 and I hit them all.

Jaunty July is done for me. A pretty good month over all. I hit my Jaunty Walk, pushup, weight lifting and floors goals, and only missed my sleep goal by 2 days and my steps goal by one day.
Think I'll do some stretches on the floor tonight while I watch TV and limber up for Anything Goes August!

Shooting for an average step count of 14 k, 7 miles, 30 floors per day, plus check in twice a week.
Feel like I'm on a roller coaster, 6,000 steps on day , 18,422 the next.
July 29th steps 18.4, 55 floors, 8.43 miles
7/30 steps 14.3, 32 floors, 6.89 miles, another town day. Worked in our woodturner's club booth at the fair for several hours. Then we did at least walk the grounds with friends and got to pet some donkeys.
7/31 steps 10.8, 8 floors, 5.22 miles. Town day, Char & I had back to back cleaning appointments. A lot of driving.
My monthly averages for July:
steps 17,614. 28 of 31 days at 14,000 or more
floors 43 each day 25 of 31 days at 30 or more
miles 8.08 each day 27 of 31 days at 7 or more

July was a good month for me. I met my goal every single day, which isn't surprising as my goals were whatever I did on any given day.
Steps: 17,648/day
Miles: 7.99/day
Calories: 3,047/day
I also lost about five pounds. This was a minor goal for me.
On 7/16, my coach and I started having frequent discussions during the day and even while out jogging. He is the reason I went farther during the second half of the month. He recommended staying a bit closer to the maximum effort possible without causing injury or excessive fatigue.
Welcome to everyone new. I hope you enjoy this group as much as I have. To those who have been here for a while, thanks for your support and motivation.
Except for the pictures, I'm not changing anything for August.
