The Jumping June step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to sign up for July. Jaunty July? Yeah, well, it is super hot in the Northern hemisphere, and super cold in the Southern hemisphere, so it is best just to have a little attitude about your steps and get at it. 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Baltoscottwell, I live about 25 miles west of Portland smack in the heart of well....not Portland. Oregon is a very bipolar state. The argument seems to be running much better on harvesters than cyclists, but still a lot of irritation. The original post started with someone laughing at the police scanner because someone called the cops and wanted the farmers ticketed because they weren't pulling over and letting him pass.
Grrr...fitbit refusing to sync again. I know my burn was over 2800, but I didn't look at my steps at all. I got quite a bit of my burn hauling lighting equipment around.
Today I am blowing off walking to try to get my garden caught up before we go on vacation. We'll see how much I can do before it just gets too hot. I can't get started until almost 9 because of driving kids around.

Indeed @GershonSurge! I feel I’m in a transition phase of my life — in more ways than one. Taking up again a bit of gardening in pots, sewing and quilting projects, reading, as well as working on fitness and establishing a healthy lifestyle keeps me busy. But I haven’t really got a vision for what I want to do now that I’m retired. While I’m reflecting on the weightier matters of life goals, though, I’m enjoying myself as much as I can. 😊

Finished separating the lavender buds from the stalks today. Worked out for about an hour, then after getting cleaned up, we visited an old friend in a Senior Residence for a few hours. Made zucchini pizza boats tonight — 😋. Washed some scraps of material (pre-shrunk) to make lavender eye pillows and sachets. Tomorrow is another day! Night Peeps!

Although there isn't much time left in this month you could just do what you want for the rest of this month.

@Amymac5283. Yes, I will start one for August in a few days. I usually try to ping everyone who posts in the current month, but you are welcome to join at any point as @WendyB says, and if I miss pinging you, just start posting in that thread (it will have August and Step Challenge in the title) and will be posted in the “Get Moving” area.

Shooting for an average step count of 14 k, 7 miles, 30 floors per day, plus check in twice a week.
July 22 steps 20.5, 39 floors, 9.44 miles
7/23 steps 19.5, floors 43, 9 miles
7/24 steps 15.4, floors 48, 7.23 miles. Yesterday was Art Club day, about 25 of us for a luncheon and "show & tell". Pretty good turnout for a town of 235 people.
Saturday we have a town day in Springfield for a Woodturners Club meeting. My step count may suffer accordingly.

The only change today is the date. I've got a heat rash on the top of both feet, and can only wear flip flops, because anything else rubs on it and makes it worse, and makes my feet hotter. Will check back when it's better.

Welcome @Amymac5283 !
So Monday ended up being 16461 and 2899 and Tuesday 13914 and 2711. Only 5 days to go in my July and I am almost caught up.
Got my garden done yesterday - Weeded the new strawberry bed, pulled out the peas. Pulled the strawberries out of the old bed, turned in some compost and planted carrots and Basil and I think Cilantro. The Basil and Cilantro are old seeds and may or may not germinate, but I had room in the herb patch and nothing else to put there. If the basil lives it should hopefully just be mature when the tomatoes start coming in.
I harvested about 5 lbs worth of yukon gold potatoes out of the new strawberry beds. I haven't planted potatoes since 2016 and I have hand sifted that soil 3 times looking for potatoes. In fact I had decided after 2016 not to plant potatoes again because they seemed rather low yield to justify that much garden space. Then as soon as I transplanted strawberries this spring 2 plants came up right through the roots of the berries. I couldn't pull them or risk losing the strawberry plant and they each super produced. I'm sure they had more potatoes than just what I gathered, but I didnt want to disturb the strawberry hills too much. Maybe I'll get more next year.

I was excited to complete another 100 miles yesterday. My coach reminded me it will be a long journey, and I don't need to catch up to the timeline all at once. He suggested I take a nap to celebrate. We agreed to make the next couple of days shorter to get rid of a bit of long-term fatigue.
I like "Anything goes August."
Sounds like you found the perfect companion plants.

ARRRGH once again no sync for over 24 hours.
I know yesterday was >21K steps and >3100 burn. I was already on track to hit targets then got a call during dinner that one of the major moving lights at the theatre broke (they open TODAY) and I had already had a bit of wine, so I walked to the theatre. I did get a ride home though since it would have been almost midnight had I walked home. Sadly, we were not able to fix it so instead of walking this morning I will be reprogramming the entire show because that mover was in every dang cue and we don't have a spare handy.

Oooh, August Abs -- that'd be mean. "Five ab exercises a day" and it would turn into Ambulatory August!
So I went with @Jotex's idea of Anything Goes. It is posted here so you can tell your friends and get signed up. In the meantime, we still have Jaunty July to finish!
