Bought the Ionic two days ago and have been careful the entire time. Looked down this morning and there are two scratches right on the display.
So much for the "scratch proof" claim Fitbit makes.

I would assume that the fact that they are touch screen would be why a screen protector is more needed. If a normal watch or old phone scratched or cracked it would be purely cosmetic, now with the touch screen element a crack can affect / ruin the screens functionality

Has anyone tried the toothpaste trick? I have seen it done on YouTube for cell phone screens with scratches. I am leery to try it on my cell phone or Ionic. Just checking.

For future reference; the only thing scratch proof is a diamond. On quality wrist watches they use a sapphire crystal which is almost as hard as diamond. So these smart watch screens should be designated scratch resistant.

@bbarrera, I don't know how the glass got scratched on mine. You should see my TomTom Spark after a year and a half of daily wear.
I've never had a screen protector on any device I own, but I'll be getting one for the big square black glass bracelet. 🙂

@dermbrian Thanks, that is a little worrisome and odd. I don't have a scratch on my 2yr old smartwatch despite a gravel mishap on my bike that resulted in left arm/leg road rash and it took a few minutes to cleanup band on watch. Point taken about screen protector.

Glad I found this forum! I ordered the Ionic today and just now followed the link to Amazon to order screen protectors. I have the Blaze and had two different screen protectors on it and both of them cracked. I went without one from then on and it has not scratched, but I don't want to take the chance of my $300 baby getting hurt. So, even though I hate screen protectors, I will definitely put one on! Thanks!

This watch definitely scratches easily. I used a Polar V800 (also with Gorilla Glass) for 2 years and it held up just fine but this one... hmmm. I got a fine 4 mm scratch even if I wear a shirt and tie all day every day and the watch is protected.
I never thought of using an screen protector on a watch but I guess it's a must on this one...

Happens when you look at the watch too often 🙂

Had the ionic for a month and been really impressed with the screen, no scratches. I assume if you scrape across metal you might get a scratch, but the screen does seem tough.

I too have a scratch on my Ionic. Never had this problem before when I owned a Microsoft Band and Microsoft Band 2. Functionally, the Ionic is fine and I have encountered no problems using the screen with the scratch.
I work in an office, so I rarely am in a situation to scratch it. Most likely this happened while lifting weights. Still, I am surprised the screen already has a scratch. 😞

Could it possibly be rubbing against something? Shirt sleeve? Coat? Something?
I have worn mine since it came out and have no scratches

Mine is not scratched, but I have only had it since early October. Since the Ionic screen is Gorilla Glass it would seem that some of the recommended solutions for repairing scratches on cell phone Gorilla Glass screens should also work on the Ionic.

I wonder if it's okay to use the liquid glass on the ionic.

took 1 week before I noticed two long nasty scratches, and was very easy on the watch, can't imagine, with normal use.

I have numerous watches including omega, rolex, buame mercier, two pebbles, and armor lite, etc.
This is the worst for scratching by far.

I added liquid glass to mine after reading these comments. I don't want scratches. I used it on my phone which already had many scratches it worked great to fill them in. I can still see them, but they are smooth.

I don't see in the link provided where there is a scratch-proof claim. I, too, have this issue, and would like to prove that the Ionic was, indeed advertised as having scratch-proof glass. Anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
