Fitbit Ionic is not syncing

All day I’ve had issues when I sync. My Ionic is showing my steps but not syncing anything else. No exercise. No reminder to move hours (I’ve got my steps every hour)....nothing will work. I’ve signed out and back. I’ve turned phone off. I’ve even deleted the app and added it back. Anyone else having issues?

Would you mind sharing a picture showing the last synced from your Ionic? Also, one of the Ionic listed on your phone's Bluetooth settings?

Even when the tracker is not paired, it can still track steps and calories. As you mentioned, if the tracker is not syncing anymore than steps and calories, I guess that the tracker might not be paired any longer. Let's try to make sure about this by providing the pictures requested. Smiley Very Happy

Once I got them, we can move on to the next tasks!

In the meantime, I'd recommend trying the following:

  • Make sure that your Fitbit app is up-to-date (iOS and Android)
  • Log out of your Fitbit app
  • Force quit the app
  • Restart your tracker
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit app

I truly appreciate your understanding with this @Sherrigram. I'll wait for your response!

It's nice to see you around the forums @Sherrigram! Thanks for already troubleshooting this, nice way to go!

While reading your post, my first thought is that your Ionic might be no properly paired to your Fitbit account and that's why it's not syncing or connecting to your phone's Bluetooth. In order to solve this, please go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and remove the tracker. In the list of Bluetooth devices you'll see the Ionic and next to it, this symbol "!". Hit the symbol and it will take you to the next step, once you're there select the option that says "Forget this device".

Once you've made sure about that, go back to the Fitbit app, go to the "Account" option in the upper right corner and select "Set up a Device". This should start the setup process for your device. Smiley Very Happy

If you can't get started with your Fitbit device, usually a missing requirement is the cause. Carefully review the requirements below, if you're using the Fitbit app for iOS, Android, or Windows 10:

  • Note that you can't set up your Fitbit device from your phone or tablet's Bluetooth screen; you must open the Fitbit app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • The software on your phone or tablet is up to date. To see if an update is waiting to be installed:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
    • Android—Tap Settings > About Phone or About Device > Android Version.
    • Windows 10—Tap or click Start > Settings > Update & security.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your phone or tablet is on. To find it:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
    • Android—Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
    • Windows 10—Click or tap Settings > Devices > Bluetooth.
  • (Android only) Double-check the following information about your phone or tablet:

If you're still unable to set up, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone; wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Try setting up your device again.
  3. Restart your Ionic again.
  4. Try setting up your device again.
  5. If you can't set up after a restart, reboot your phone or tablet (turn it off and then back on).
  6. Try setting up your device again.
  7. If you can't set up after the reboot, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app.

Give this a go and let me know the outcome!

I also have similar issues with my ionic not syncing with my iPhone 8, also when ever there is an update and I try, the app says "found it"  then says connecting to tracker.... but it never does.

My phone is up to date.

I have in the past gone through the routine of getting my phone to forget the Ionic, rebooted phone, rebooted IONIC and occasionally .... just occasionally it might work.

I am now getting so frustrated with the darned thing I am about ready to get rid... and splash out for an Apple Watch.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem.  It WILL sync ONLY if I set up a "New device" then replace it.  So, I basically wait to sync every two days to download my data.  It will NOT automatically sync anymore.

Hi Everyone. I bought the fitbit Ionic 4 Hours ago. It updates when you do a new device but it will not sync via Bluetooth or wifi.

Done the above step and I have restored it to factory settings. Reinstalled app.

Nothing working

I am having this same problem this morning. My X won’t sync to my ionic. I’ve tried everything a couple times and even turned things back on in different orders. It’s really frustrating! Help!

My ionic will not sync with my iPhone 7 either. All software updated. Multiple shutdowns and restarts. It will not even allow me to 'Set Up a Device' now. The Ionic and phone connect, the Ionic shares the 4-digit code and when I input the app says 'connecting to Fitbit' for ages (got to 1hr earlier) but never does.

Please help.

I'm having the same issue and have had it for a couple of months now.  It started with my iPhone 7 and has continued with my iPhone Xs Max.  I just open a help chat online and a person named Sybil just told me that fitbit isn't compatible with iPhone Xs.  AWESOME!

This is also a replacement fitbit because the 1st one died within 3 months of getting it.

Hey there @skydivemary! I'm glad to hear that your Ionic started syncing after the steps you tried. Thanks for sharing the outcome, let me know if there's anything else I can help you with!

Thanks for jumping in here @JOsmond! I was about to create a support case on your behalf, but I've seen that you got in touch with our Customer Support recently. Woman Very Happy Please keep an eye on your inbox for updates on your case!

Welcome @AbominableBro! I totally understand where your concern is coming from. Note that the devices on this list have been confirmed as fully compatible with all features of Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app. While a phone or tablet may not be verified as fully compatible, the Fitbit app may still work with your device.

Please keep in mind that when a device is not supported we cannot guarantee its functionality with the Fitbit app. It might work at a certain time and then it can stop working out of nowhere after an update. This is because the app is not optimized to that device and any change could impact the performance.

Let me know if there's anything else I may assist you with.

Having the standard Fitbit problem of a non-syncing tracker. Like the thousands of other people who constantly have to fight with their Fitbits, hoping that they will work. Why is is so difficult for Fitbit just to acknowledge that they have made a bad product(s)?

Every forum has the same template moderator posting of 10 hoops to jump through to try and make your device work. This is a serious problem. The device should work every time. When I turn my laptop on, it works...when I turn my tv on, it works....when I look at my fitbit and it says it's 4:49 am on Nov 19 when in reality it is 8:27 pm on Nov 29...that is my Fitbit NOT WORKING.

Buying a Fitbit has been one of the largest, most frustrating examples of buyer's remorse I have ever experienced.   </rant>

@MarreFitbit  I had the exact same problems with the Ionic on my iPhone 7 which, "have been confirmed as fully compatible with all features of Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app."

The same issues are happening over and over again with a lot of people time and time again.

Getting the Ionic to sync for a day or a few hours and then stop is not acceptable.  It defeats the entire purpose of having the device when one of the marketed features is being able to see when someone is calling or texting you.  We shouldn't have to constantly check the connection of the watch to make sure it's working.  Resetting your phone/watch is not an acceptable answer when you have to do it again in a few hours/days.

You are wasting everyone's time and quite frankly lying by perpetuating these "troubleshooting steps" which, in the end, are never a permanent fix.

@Lindles @AbominableBro Thanks for your feedback.

Our team is constantly working to improve the Fitbit experience. If you haven't done it already, I would recommend setting up your Ionic as a replacement device by following these steps:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account iconUser-added image
  2. Tap Set Up a Device.
  3. Choose your device and follow the on-screen instructions to continue.

Hope this helps to resolve the syncing issue.

My Ionic is not able to sync since the day before yesterday to my Sony Xperia. It was OK to sync to my iPad mini so it should be the problem syncing with Android.

I tried the method above but it still doesn't work.
