I rebooted.  I restarted.  Several times.  I resynched.  I set the clock face back to gauges (original).

Nothing works.  The settings on watch will NOT allow you to change from dim.  It is "greyed" out.  I cannot touch change it.  Software on phone does not allow for it to be changed at all.  Again, I have done everything advised by you.  Still sits on dim

and I do not receive notifications anymore.  None from phone.  None from "fitbit" telling me to get active at x:50 each hour

Fitbit Support just informed me that my second Ionic (my first Ionic broke In December 2018 just after 12 months of use due to a ‘black screen’ issue), will not be replaced under warranty even though Fitbit themselves bricked it after the 4.1.2 update. I was offered the 25% discount! Unbelievable that a company even dares to have such a policy. I’m stunned and beyond words on this.

Fitbit lost another customer........

JHM0827,

You sure your Ionic had a battery life of 7+ days. 4-5 days is about normal AFAIK, on a fairly new battery.

Hi Mike,

If you are told any tweaks/adjustments to get notifications fully working please post them here. Most of my notifications work - EXCEPT email and calendar. No one - from Fitbit or otherwise has suggested anything I can do. I have quadrupled - no more actually, checked the settings and rebooted, factory reset, uninstalled etc. Was the same on the previous FW version.

I'm running Android 9.

Perhaps I'm in the lucky camp with just no email/calendar notifications issues?😥

On a positive note - the Bike function in Exercises works much better than it does on the Versa device - although it does chew through the battery fairly fast.

Cheers,

Paul

Is Fitbit team doing something about being ionic dead after firmware update? this is my second experience with Fitbit watch, first with my versa 1 and now my ionic. After update they just die. I'm on overseas so I can't return them. Not sure what's wrong with your system.

My Dad's Ionic is on a very very old version and I keep telling him not to update it. I don't want him to suffer any issues as his is well out of warranty.

Hi Joelk1222,

The moderator participants on this forum will be constrained as to what they are allowed to divulge to forum users. They likely know no more than us users. So, we shouldn’t take our frustrations out on them.

I suspect there may be a couple of issues with “Fitbit’s system” as you put it.

First – It’s clear that firmware isn’t properly alpha/beta tested internally before releasing to a closed invite only beta tester group, before final release to the wider public, insuring there are NO major hardware killing coding errors.

Secondly – there may be hardware issues causing major problems for some users. I’m almost certain that the hardware electronics will have been revised since the initial release of the Ionic in September 2017. So different revisions could cause different issues when the various firmware versions are applied?

I along with many others, I find a lack of public disclosure of what each firmware revision fixes, enhances or adds in the form of a changelog nothing short of bizarre. Certainly not industry standard.

I expect there’s a bit of a flurry at Fitbit central over these issues.

I imagine the Ionic version 2 will be quite different in the hardware – but issues for Ionic 1 users MUST be fixed to keep a userbase for future releases.

This Ionic is my 4th Fitbit if you include the hardware failed Versa that was replaced out of warranty goodwill by Fitbit.

I’d like to continue to support this company.

My 2cents!

I will never buy another Fitbit product.  After I installed the latest firmware update on my Ionic, the Set Up Wallet message kept popping up. A Fitbit support told me to do a factory reset, after which point my Ionic won’t turn on.  Even though this is a software issue, Fitbit will do nothing to replace my watch. This is my third Fitbit watch in the last 6 years and I will never spend a dime on another Fitbit product.  And no one  don’t install the firmware update.

Same here. My Ionic is totally useless. Doesn’t Tracy heart rate, steps, sleep, nothing and before nothing when it did it was grossly minimized. I worked HIIT on an elliptical for 57mins straight and it said I took 60 steps and burned 42 Cals. WTH!

An update:  I finally did receive notification that I can now upgrade to 70.8.  Had nothing to lose since 70.7.27 didn't work.  Fortunately, it did work!  It took a while though .  After upgrading to 70.8, it didn't seem like anything was fixed but a few hours later I got about 80% of the watch's functionality back and after a day, I'm thinking Its back to normal again.  Not sure why this isn't working for everyone other than that there must be different hardware versions of Ionic out there so I guess I got lucky.  The unfortuante part is I'll never trust Fitbit to maintain their firmwareafter this ordeal.  These watches are way too expensive to have to deal with this kind of crap plus it doesn't seem like Fitbit, as a company, is responding well to the situation.  Now that I've already started looking at other brands, I don't think I can come back to Fitbit.
