This new update is to stop the bricking you guys crested with the last update that you won't take responsibility for right? So now you can act like you didn't just brick thousands of our devices and give us a **ahem**ty coupon to buy a new one. What would I buy? Your versa series has no gps. Who does that? What fitness tracking company doesn't want to track fitness? It isn't even a good smart watch without fitness. No ability to answer calls or reply by voice or typing. So it isn't a real smart watch, not a real fitness tracker. What the F is it? A fake look alike apple watch?? My ionic at least had some notifications and fitness tracking with gps. You don't have another device that does those things. And no I won't buy another ionic. Why? I got one. You broke it!!

Apologies if I’ve posted this several times. I seem to be having technical difficulties with the forum. Below is the view of Fitbit technical support.

We appreciate you share with us your thoughts and thanks for your feedback.

As previously mentioned, there's no current issues for updates breaking a device. Feel free to update your Ionic.

Please let us know if there's anything we can do to assist you.

It is now over a week.

Ionic has been updated to brick over 50 times and still only a watch that only tells the time.

Fitbit tells me that my app is out of date but this does not update.

The problem is Fitbit Ionic not updating fro 27.70.8.0.

It has done 4 factory resets but still not going any further.

My app is version 3.21 which was updated 1 May 2020.

This is update for EVERYONE thats thinks of updating Fitbit Ionic.  DON"T DO IT YET.

Hi all, updated to the latest firmware last week and did not notice anything for 3 days when it would not sync with the app. I had to reset it loads of times and it still will not work, now I found this thread and realize my ionic is Not the only one with this issue. I have factory reset and I cannot pair the ionic with the app as it is stuck on connecting to Fitbit when I add in the 4 digits from the ionic to the app on my IPhone. I have wasted hours on this. The thing is it was working fine until I updated to the latest firmware. Support better sort this as I know have a Fitbit ionic that won’t even tell the time never mind track my fitness

Another 3 and half hours with another 10 updates but still not working.
Good night everyone

My attempt to update last night seems to have broken my Ionic. I started the update with the Ionic connected to power. When I woke up this morning it was stuck with the logo on the screen. The display goes on an off about every 10 seconds. None of the resets, hard or soft, do anything. Fortunately, it is still under warranty so Fitbit says they will replace.

Fitbit support said to me I had to wait to see what there specialist team come up with as a fix. Told them I was not happy about that.

Thank you for sharing this screenshot @Hans2vt. It doesn't seem to be the same problem that this other user is reporting. Did you tried to restart it? Confirm if you're having issues with other exercises so we can report it with our team.

I started having other issues after the update. Problems with syncing which a reset fixed. Then I noticed the battery seemed to be draining very quickly. I had it charging over night and it the morning it seemed dead and the screen was black. I thought it didn’t charge, but after the three finger reset it came back with a full charge, but the the battery was drained by the next morning. I didn’t charge it back up for several days. Then when I did it never came back. I have tried all the recommended Fitbit support articles to get it back, but it’s completely dead.

My warranty ended in December. I have owned other Fitbits and they should last much longer. I’m actually wearing my old Charge HR2 now. It still works. I’m not a happy customer. I just can’t see myself plunking down more money for another Fitbit even with a 25% off coupon. I should have gotten at least another 1.5 to 2 years out of the Iconic.

@FBJL I understand where you're coming from. Sorry about this inconvenience, but if you need more details about your warranty options I can request a ticket for you. They are in charge to check this details.

I am reposting my original post, but without the content that triggered the moderator to remove it:

unfortunately my Ionic updated to 70.7.27 and at 18 months old it is bricked. This was my 3rd Fitbit. My husband’s Ionic updated to 70.8.0 and his is working just fine. I understand that sometimes firmware or code has an unknown bug with unintended results. It happens to all technology companies, but how they handle it makes all the difference for their customer’s experience. I am extremely disappointed that Fitbit is not owning up to their mistake. I don’t know who is handling customer satisfaction, but Fitbit needs to make a leadership change. They also need to look at their QA/QC. A 25% discount off a new purchase is not going to fix this issue for me. I would have to be daft to spend another couple hundred dollars on a product that may only last 12 to 18 months. All this has done for me is cement my decision to look at competitive products. It’s very disappointing. Over the last five years I have personally purchased about 8 Fitbits for myself and my family. I have directly influenced the purchase of another 10 additional fitbits by additional family members and friends. I would have been happy to keep buying fitbits in the future as new technology comes out, but sadly that will now not be the case. There are other apps that I can use to sync up data from other devices while I transition my family and friends to a competitive product. There seems to be a number of other Fitbit users that are experiencing a number of different issues, but similar to my issues, that all seem to have the 70.7.27 update as the common factor. Thanks Fitbit, it was a good “run” until now.

Since may 23 the sensor of my fitbit ionic is not working anymore. No heart rate, no steps. reset the ionic. Tried all the steps including factory reset, but no result. Since the factory reset the app mentions an update of the firmware. But the update doesn't work.I begins installing and then stops. I only had to charge the watch after three days, but now i have to charge before the end of the day. And since this evening it won't charge, so I can't use it anymore. It looks like the watch is broken. The shop where I bought it gives 2 years warranty, but I bought it 2 year and 5 months ago. So no warranty. It's rediculous. Ik looks like you make the watches so they work for 2 years, and quits after that. So you must buy a new one.  I really doubt buying a new one. What is the use if it only lasts two years.. I'm better off weith an apple watch, but with disadvantage that it's only works with an iphone.

Best regards, Thijs van Hoiut

I would hesitate to do the update, that is what messed up my IONIC and after reaching out to help desk, my IONIC is no longer functional!

Fitbit has offered me a 25% discount on an update they sent out and now I am out of a watch I really liked.  Disappointed in Fitbit on this.
