Fitbit Update: 12/05/2017

We've just rolled out new firmware for Ionic to 100% of users! This firmware update includes:

NEW APPS AND CLOCK FACES

This Fitbit OS update provides access to new apps and clock faces from Fitbit, Fitbit Labs, popular brands, and developers. The apps span a range of categories such as Flipboard, The New York Times, and Yelp. New apps and clock faces will be added frequently. Browse the available apps in the Fitbit App Gallery.

For more information, see How do I install and manage apps on my Fitbit watch?

FITBIT LABS

We’re introducing Fitbit Labs, which develops experimental apps and clock faces for Ionic. Install an app or clock face to motivate you to stay active, help track and interpret your behavior, and provide intelligent feedback. Choose to adopt a virtual pet and use your steps to keep them fed and happy with one of the FitPet interactive clock faces, or install the Think Fast app and test your ability to rapidly and accurately switch between tasks. Check back often for new apps.

For more information, see What is Fitbit Labs?

FITBIT PAY

Now you can add up to 6 credit and debit cards to Fitbit Pay on Ionic and choose which card you want to use for each transaction. When you’re ready to pay, swipe right on your watch’s screen to scroll through your cards.

Note this feature is coming soon to the Fitbit app for Windows 10.

I just got my Ionic and executed this firmware update successfully.

Biggest failure so far is that after a couple of synchronizations the watch doesn't sync with the phone. I replaced the device from the app and got sync working but after a few successful syncs it's broken again.

I've toggled off and on the "all-day sync" option and that doesn't recover sync functionality. On my daily use I also randomly toggle phone's wifi and bluetooth on and off (I assume is quite normal behavior).

Try to remove the "Always connected" option in the fitbit app.

It worked for me.

Since that, I haven't got any sync error and get all my text notifications... But I have lost call notifications

I actually did this few days ago and manual syncing has executed without problems.

I've never listened music with ionic so I actually don't know.

Does your music skip?

Hi Peatro

I went for a short 4Km jogg this afternoon and the music played through my Bluetooth headphones perfectly, these are cheap £25 Anker ones.

Hope this helps

After trying multiple times via the phone app, computer app, (wi-fi & bluetooth on both) it appeared to be finally updating by Bluetooth on the phone app. It took almost that long (3 hours or so) & then a message came back that said it was unable to update. I am so not happy with this device. I'm expecting to be able to chat with someone at a higher level of support very soon. Otherwise I'm returning it & will go with a different one altogether & most likely not Fitbit. I'm beyond frustrated with this. It really shouldn't be this difficult. It really shouldn't.

I am beyond frustrated. This was a Christmas gift. I have tried no less then 30 times to connect to wifi. It never works ever. I have reset the  onic multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled the app many times, un paired it honestly everything. Many times.

I have tried to set up and gone thru hours of set up running like 4-6 hours via bluetooth only to have it fail twice.

I am on the verge of returning it unless someone can help with this. It is useless.

I bought my ionic on Dec 26, 2017 and had synching issues from the very start. I tried every work around and even called fitbit to which they admitted "we understand there is a sychining issue and unfortunately there is no permanent solution at this time (other than uninstalling and reinstalling every time). For a device in the + $300 range, this is unacceptable.

Best Answer

Add me to the list. Got it for Christmas and have to re-set it every day in order to sync. For something that costs this much, its inexcusable. When looking at the competition in the same price-point, one has to wonder if the FitBit management team and engineering team are sober, or if they distribute valium and prozac in the break rooms at HQ. This watch is garbage, and follows in the poorly-thought-out execution model that has plagued FitBit since the irreplaceable watch bands on the Surge, which turned an expensive and otherwise perfectly functioning bit of gear into a useless bit of trash.

What’s the update schedule on this device? I’d personally expect monthly software updates given the price point, can we get FLAC or similar high quality audio playback in the next update please. Sound quality absolutely SUCKS currently!

Best Answer

So the sound would not come through on my headphones, no matter what I did. It said it was connected, but nothing. Chatted with a Fitbit Rep and he said they were aware of the issue, but not sure when the fix will be available. I hear the Fitbit headphones work, but they are over $100.00! Maybe Fitbit should step up and discount these to customers who have purchased the Ionic, so customers don't start returning it left and right. I know that is my plan, since it's basically worthless if I can't use my headphones. This is my 3rd type of Fitbit and I thought they finally had all the features I was looking for. Well they may have them, but I can't use them! Very disappointed!

My Ionic updated on its own last night.  Only reason I noticed was the battery drag down from a near full charge when I went to bed.

If you have a 5g only router it will not connect. For whatever reason they decided not to support 5g. That is a hardware thing so it mostly likely will never support it. This is puzzling to me but for most it should not be an issue. Are you seeing your router in the phone app? If so than that is not your problem. If the fitbit does not see it then chances are your router is 5g only. I do not know if any of the routers have the ability to turn a format off or on.. Both if mine show home and home 5g on my phone but only home appears on the Ionic due to 5g only support. To me this is biggest reason not to recommend an Ionic to someone. I realize that 90 percent of routers offer both but for how kobg? Why start out with outdated hardware. I love the Ionic. I do. I have had minimal bugs for a new device and can work around them until firmware updates popup.. But as a whole I think they missed the boat in many areas.

I do not think you will see that. Flac or any other lossless format files are way to large. No smartwatch on the market has enough internal storage for this. Tethered play would work but that would defeat what people want to do with the watch. My idea is a bit different. Most gyms have WiFi so why not enable WiFi streaming in Pandora or other apps that may pop up or even for working out at home? It doesn't help runners or outdoor activities.

Seems like the support people would know that this is an issue and use that
as part of their troubleshooting protocol. I'm now going to go check my
router and see if that's my problem.

You spend 300 pound for the Fitbit then more for the headphones and you can’t even make the transfering of music easy. No matter what I do. It won’t do it. Keep telling me to drag over. I do. But nothing. Not happy.

You know what? 31.1.16 and the latest app update actually made synching a lot worse for many. Myself included. This is a bad firmware! Fitbit better give us new firmware and app real soon instead of ignoring it in the forum and brushing it aside in Support tickets.

And the support staff are saying Weather is not compatible with Windows 10 app. However, beside not being able to add new City into the Weather setting, the data does sync.

Well, I can't setup the Ionic with my iPad Pro, so does that mean Fitbit is not compatible with iOS at all?

I've soft reset and factory reset the Ionic before trying to setup with my iPad Pro. It always get stuck at the WiFi setup stage.

Still trying to poke the support staff to let me talk to or at least get a respond from an actual developer at Fitbit.

Buongiorno,

scusate ma io ho ancora il firmware 27.31.1.16.

Qualcuno sa quando arriverà il firmware 31.1? dove si può trovare la lista di cosa verrà corretto?
