Fitbit Update 08/23/2018: Hi everyone!

Just wanted to thank you all for your participation in this thread.

Since the majority of Ionic users have successfully updated to OS 2.1.1 (v32.10.20) I have decided to close this topic to further posts.

If you still have not updated your Ionic to OS 2.1.1, check out this post for some best practices on how to update your device.

If you are experiencing an issue with your Ionic unrelated to the firmware-up process, I invite you to start a new topic on the community or find a related topic.

Thanks again to all the great feedback we have received on this firmware. Looking forward to the next Fitbit OS update! Robot Happy

Fitbit Update - 6/7/18: Fitbit OS 2.1.1 has been released to 100% of Ionic users!

Hi, everyone! Smiley Happy

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.1.1! (Firmware Version: 32.10.20)

We've started to roll out this update to 30% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

You can find the release notes for this new OS version by following the link, here.

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

As a reminder, I recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I can also recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in this thread.

After updating the firmware on my ionic it will no longer charge.

Been having more and more frequent syncing problems. Sometimes it won't sync, sometimes it says it's not syncing but it is, sometimes it syncs but doesn't update the dashboard (I have to go into, say, the Exercise page and back out to see my latest one reflected there).

Oh, and it has completely stopped syncing my watch face settings. I can install a new watch face, but I can't change its settings.

My Ionic is becoming more and more troublesome, and fast.

Same here this watch is a piece of expensive junk all the update did was make it even more slower to sync. Can’t download watch faces etc and incredibly slow scrolling. I want my money back and anyone that buys this watch will be getting ripped off.

I've read about lots of problems with this update from others on this thread. I almost didn't purchase the Ionic because of this, but figured I'd give it a try because I really wanted all the features offered (several days of battery, good HR, sleep, waterproof, GPS,....) and could return in 30 days to Amazon if it really was screwed up.

However, I'm almost embarrassed to say I'm not seeing any problems with this 32.10.20 update on my new Ionic, which I've used for about  3 weeks now. I get great battery life. It syncs wonderfully with my android phone (Motorola Droid Max). The Ionic GPS works even better than my top of the line Garmin units (eTrex 30, Edge 1000) and drains only 10% battery/hour. The only thing I haven't yet tried is music transfer, as that's not a feature I really need.

So I'm now wondering if it's not this particular 32.10.20 update firmware, but rather the update process that's causing the problems? Maybe a file gets corrupted during the update? Or a watch has a bad memory element that's hit during the update? I read reports of similar problems during previous updates.

Oh, and I forgot to say I can't even count the times that the app tells me it doesn't have internet connectivity.

@LarryQW , I think most of us have reset to factory and reinstalled the FW multiple times... If nothing else I expecrt the device to do a CRC to verify that the downloaded data is correct. So I guess that's not it.

But, good for you 🙂 Obviously the update doesn't affect everyone, and that's possibly why Fitbit is taking its sweet time ignoring our woes.

Anything is possible but what would be the source of the corrupt file since others are having the same problem

I'm leaning towards agreeing with you. I don't believe it's the update. It's the whole process of syncing from the server to your 'phone/bluetooth/Ionic. I've had three months of good service from my Ionic and also two other members of my family that purchased within two months of each other. I have had hastle with syncing due to server/'phone transfer. This morning I wasted a lot of time trying to sync. when my android  apparently downloaded info' from the server, everytime I went to 'Community' - 'Friends' to see friends results Fitbit came back with the message it was no longer working/reponding. This happened several times and then righted itself. With this problem I have always resisted restarting the tracker. I am not a gambling man, but I would put my money on server download errors and server syncing. Others may have problems with their fitbit ionic itself. Fitbit can see the characteristic history of each  individual tracker, and can determine a faulty tracker, this is why they will replace without a quibble for some and not for others who they require to do more tests.

All sorts of things could be occurring during the update. Say the voltage supply is a bit low, then certain parts of the programming process may always be messed up on those marginally working watches. Perhaps some firmware settings affecting battery life are more sensitive to failure with firmware changes. I assume a file CRC or other check is done, but maybe corruption can occur after that, especially if the check is done before transfer to the watch with flaky communication.

And then, there's the simple user issues, like maybe All-Day Sync is being reset somehow (this caught me when I had to reinstall the FitBit app on my old buggy phone having issues on all my apps). I suspect they don't want to say they have some issues on some Ionics because then everyone would demand a replacement without the hard effort of going through some standard checks of the system.

I'm also seeing how some will spontaneously get battery or sync issues after months of use, even without doing an update. This could be from hardware issues. Maybe the update could stress components simply by it's process of high I/O and heavy programming, or maybe extra strain on the voltage supply.

That said, I can see how some here have indeed gone the extra mile with Fitbit's support. I am shocked these faithful users are not treated better. This is not a major cost issue for Fitbit to take care of those few who really try hard and want to work with the company, yet still have an issue.

I've been a fitbit user since 2015. Ionic was my only purchase. Everything prior was gifted. I was able to use the Ionic for 6 months - purchased in Nov 2017. All updates seemed to be of no issue until 32.10.20 changed everything. I feel for the people who did not get to use theirs at all. At least FB should honor refunds to them, get the right people in who can fix these myriad of issues. It's not their support team, it all starts from the top at the C Level. Step up to the plate corporate wigs!

I read the same thing with battery issues in the previous February Firmware update, but mine started having battery drain issues after this most recent one, where it was burning 50% of the battery life in a day with it set with very Basic settings, no GPS, no music, a Fitbit watch face etc..  I put in a ticket and received a replacement.  With this last update, had to use Bluetooth at work as it did not run when I first tried with WiFi, with the previous one it was done on the home WiFi  I wonder whether something could have gotten corrupted, but to the extent of fowling up the battery life?  Anyway, the replacement works better, but about a day shy of the Original on the battery life, so it is acceptable for now, but I am watching it closely.

I now seem to have the Fitbit App on my phone drawing more battery and CPU than before so, working with that now.  Ha, tech can sometimes be a royal pain!

Grrrrrrr Since my factory reset and uninstall and reinstall of the fitbit app on my android all seemed to be working fine. Syncing ok, notifications coming through, vibration working, all good until today when suddenly it stopped talking. Phone saying Fitbit app is no longer working? Here we go again, about to uninstall and reinstall the app. This is really frustrating.

OK, I bit the bullet and did a factory reset of my Ionic.  It took 6 hours, 2 for the reset / OS update, 4 to reload music/podcasts.  I did a few test runs to make sure my base functions were OK and they were. I started up run cues and now they work fine, no crashing.   Keeping my fingers crossed that this resolved my issues.

Does anyone know how to override the low-battery check on firmware upgrade? My ionic won't charge and support left me up a creek without a paddle 😞

After last update, Android app never reported update finished.  Had to uninstall and reinstall.  Even worse, Ionic no longer works.  It navigates and syncs but heart rate and motion sensor are dead.  Battery life tanked.

This firmware does not upload onto my new Ionic. In fact, I think I have wasted over $500 buying the Ionic plus the Bluetooth earplus, since I cannot even get my Ionic to be recognised by my Windows 10 system.

(I still have my surge which works fine). This will definately be the last time I buy anything from Fitbit - very disappointing...

The app on both my mobile and tablet has turned nearly useless; it won't sync, it thinks it's offline, it won't communicate watchface preferences, it syncs when it says it's not, its's constantly "looking for" my Ionic... you name it.

Interestingly enough, I found out that the Fitbit Windows 10 app works pretty reliably, so I've disabled the app on my phone and just do it on my PC or laptop.

I have found the solution!

It appears that the Fitbit App  on my PC must have been an earlier version, and had not updated automatically (as they normally do (I think) if installed from the Windows Store.

Before I came to this conclusion, I tried updating the firmware on the watch via my Windows Mobile. I first had to install the Fitbit App, and (lo and behold!) it all worked beatifully!

So I completely uninstalled the App on my PC, then re-installed it via the Windows Store, and (again)

everything connected with the new watch and all is functioning like a dream.

So, the answer to all these problems seems to be:

      1. Uninstall any FitBit App you have on any device

      2. Reinstall the App afresh by downloading from the App store

      3. Run the normal Setup for the IOonic watch

Such a relief!  🙂
