i had the same issue. I ended up rebooting my ionic (hold left button + bottom right button).  After a reboot, the Ionic sync'ed just fine and then it updated.

I'm having the same issue! I have re-booted by Ionic three times, and re-tried the updating process each time. It has been updating for nearly and hour and a half now & appears to be stuck just over halfway through.  Other posts suggest that the updating process only takes about 30-45 minutes. Any other ideas on how to fix this & update my Ionic successfully?!

My update took about 90 minutes...but i was driving for a part of it, maybe my cell data was bad.

It was a LONG update though.

I'm having the same problem with the OS 2 update.  The process has hung up three times now - it gets to the "Installing . . ." step and then just churns and churns.  The latest attempt has been churning at this step for two hours plus.  I seem to have endless problems with my Ionic - doesn't record sleep stages quite frequently, very difficult to sync to my iPhone and the updates are just ridiculous.  I'm about ready to give up on this thing.  Is there a secondary market for used Ionics?

THanks because I haven’t used my ionic for 3 days!!! Forget that update!!!!

Same problem here. But after rebooting twice and waiting for downloading and updating, it took 2h15min to get the whole process done

Hello guys, hope you're doing great @Locks22 @DJ-Pittsburgh @Nordicpink! Sorry for the late response. Are you still having difficulties updating your Fitbit Ionic? If so, before you begin the firmware update, make sure Fitbit Ionic is plugged into the charger and in range of your Wi-Fi network during the update. For best results, use your home or work Wi-Fi network.

If the firmware update failed, you may see this image on your watch's screen:

Please follow the troubleshooting steps below based on your issue to resolve the problem.

If your watch isn't sufficiently charged before starting the update, you may see this image on your screen:

User-added image

Wait until the battery is at least 40% charged to start the update and keep your watch plugged into the charger. To check the battery level, tap the screen or press any button while the watch is charging.

If you have trouble updating your watch over Wi-Fi, try these steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Make sure your watch is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use.
  2. Move your watch closer to your router.
  3. Make sure your router is connected to the internet.
  4. Restart your watch by holding the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo.
  5. Try again to update your watch.

If the update failed, continue with the following:

  1. Restart your phone.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

If it's still not updating, let's continue with:

Check to see if you have another Fitbit tracker paired to your phone. If so, you must tell your phone to "forget" the tracker, removing the connection between the phone and the tracker.

  1. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth > find the tracker in the list > find an option to forget the device.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

If you can't update Ionic over Wi-Fi, follow the on-screen instructions in the Fitbit app to update your watch over Bluetooth instead. Note that firmware updates over Bluetooth may take significantly longer to complete.

On the other hand, if you have trouble updating your watch over Bluetooth, try these steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Try turning Bluetooth on and off on your phone.
  2. Restart your watch by holding the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo.
  3. Try again to update your watch.

If the steps above don't work, do the following:

  1. Restart your phone.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

Last steps if that doesn't work is to check to see if you have another Fitbit tracker paired to your phone. If so, you must tell your phone to "forget" the tracker, removing the connection between the phone and the tracker.

  1. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth > find the tracker in the list > find an option to forget the device.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

If you see a clock error message on your watch's screen after the update, choose a clock face in the Fitbit app to resolve the problem:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Tap or click Clock Faces.
  3. Choose a new clock and then wait a few moments for your watch to update. The new clock face will appear on your screen.

I'm happy to hear you both were able to update your Fitbit Ionic @Daniellaperrone @VandyCWGWoman Very Happy As you mentioned, updates can take several minutes to an hour and are demanding on the battery. So, we recommend starting charging the device before updating it.

Give this a go my friends and let me know the outcome!

I’ve tried all of these troubleshooting suggestions (multiple times) and nothing works. Is there a new firwarebolanned anytime soon? Perhaps that one will work?

Is anyone trying it on a computer?  That's the only way I've been able to update my trackers.

My ionic did the same thing.  Have you figured out a solution.  I am ready to give up on Fitbit because I have had nothing but trouble with my ionic not syncing.  Now it won't sync because my ionic has some of the new updates but it didn't fully update.  Please let me know if you have found a solution.

Thank you!

Hi Crystal,
Don’t give up on Fitbit! It really takes long. I did while I was working.
It really takes time to upload then a while to update. But it works. If you
have WiFi at work do that. It took about 1h45min the whole process!!
Before you do that, FIRST restart your Fitbit then start your process.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Daniella

Updating really sucks!!!

and the instructions on the help pages are wrong

and part of the proposed solution like switching of Bluetooth could be done automatically

This seems really amateuristic

I start to download on my phone for the update 9 hours later it still hasn’t finished. I start it at night and have to stop trying in the morning. Last night it looks like it nearly got to the end. I can’t get it done it’s too slow. I’m on WiFi ephemeral plugged into power Fitbit plugged into power 99% charged. Tried 3 times now.

Nope, not working.  This is getting tiresome!

Too funny.  My phone is too smart for us all--it kicked me into Samsung Health as I've been fruitlessly trying to update.

I'm having the same trouble. Tried it in wifi, hooked to my computer, restarted phone and watch 3 times, waited hours just to have it say, "failed" on my phone. My watch never shows anything. I have had the flex, charge, and slat with no trouble.  With the amount I had to pay for the ionic, it should NOT be this hard to update!!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6...had to go into Settings, Connection Settings, More Connection Settings, then turn on Download booster...downloaded in less than 10 minutes...
