Outdoor bike distance not adding to goals-Ionic

Can someone please tell me why distance covered in 'Outdoor Bike' activity does not count towards your daily distance goal? I thought upgrading from the Blaze to Ionic would fix this issue, but as I have discovered this morning, it did not. I hope this is fixed soon, before I return the Ionic and try another brand.

distance only includes miles from:

- steps (using steps * stride)

- tracked walks/hikes/runs

it does not include miles from biking (or swimming).

On a related note, if you are a runner, it is not possible from Fitbit dashboard to get total running miles. Same if you only want to see miles from tracked walks. All step based miles are rolled up into a single daily/weekly number.

Oh, okay! It all makes sense now. I thought the distance goal was just for moving that distance, not just walking it. Gotcha, thanks 😊

Yes, it's definitely frustrating that there is no way for Fitbit to incorporate anything but steps into one's totals. Biking season comes around and suddenly I'm failing to meet my goals and losing challenges simply because I'm riding 10-20k per day instead of walking. Do any other trackers offer comprehensive results that reflect actual activity?

@Gthoreif the challenges are about stepping then I think it's quite fair that it doesn't take into account cycling. It's very different non-step based activity. There is no way to tell how many "cycling steps" did you do. Of course, you could go with translating cadence ( rpm ) but Fitbit doesn't support cadence and doesn't support external sensors like bike PODs which could measure your cycling cadence. Otherwise, there is no way to convert cycling into steps. What I'd rather see is different challenges for different activities. Challenges for cycling would be awesome! I cycle quite a lot and would love to see such challenges in the world of Fitbit. I'm not sure whether other trackers are any better. Things like goals for steps, calories and active minutes are quite basic. For example, Today, I just reached my 10k steps goal (10:30pm) but it's not a measure of anything as I was very active during the day. It's just my activity didn't involve lots of stepping. When I tried to join challenges I had to switch and just produce steps ( which in the end wasn't really my thing due to very limited time ).

If you are more like an athlete then it's better to track your progress using more specialized software and lots of it supports competitive communities.

I can't speak for other watches than Suunto as that's the only one ( next to Ionic ) I own. Suunto community aspect is slightly different. It diverts more towards athletes. The community has lots of freedom in creating events, groups and even training programs for use of the other members. For example, I can create a Cycling event, select the route and invite friends or just make it public and let anyone join, create an event official website, schedule time and date and so on. The events are less virtual and more real where people have to actually meet and compete so there's no fuss about faking steps or whether cycling should be producing steps or not etc. Later, at the end of the event, you can see a leaderboard with all relevant data. People create events like for example marathons etc. I tried Fitbit's and Suunto's and I prefer the Suunto competitive aspect. However, it's my opinion driven by more athletic point of view. Fitbit challenges are so boring ( steps, steps, steps ) and repetitive ( workweek, day, weekend stepping all over again ) that after a few times I just don't bother.

My previous fitbit did allow different activity tracking - why did fitbit eliminate that feature - anyone know?
