What do you Think of your Ionic so Far?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I just ordered the new Ionic and it should arrive on Friday and was wondering about the ones that have received their Ionic so far what do you think?

  • is it very heavy or light ?
  • is it to big ?
  • what to you think about transferring music?
  • how is the battery life?
  • is the screen bright enough?
  • do it stay on long enough to read your text messages and can you respond to texts from the watch.
  • how is the accuracy
  • I'm sure I will have a lot to say once I get mine in, i'm going from my Microsoft Band 2 that I loved and will miss dearly

I’m really happy with the device, really easy to set up and use. Only issue is the strap itself, i unbuckled the hinge to charge and set up and step ages putting them back in. They seem so loose and I feel myself checking my wrist to see if the watch is still there. Anyone else having this issue??

@carlriley8 Are you talking about the point where the strap connects to the tracker itself? I know it can take a bit of practice to get confident with that - my advise is to push it until you hear a click, which may involve pushing it farther when it already appears to be flush. This video might help.

OK,

Wow a lot of great feed back so far. Just so you know I got my Ionic yesterday and was very excited, and my feed back so far is I love it and hope for more.

It didn't take me long at all to set up the device, it did do 2 OS updates but I guess that is normal for the first setup.

I don't like turning the wrist to turn the watch on, I find myself turning my wrist 3 or 4 times, I hope this gets updated in the future to turn on with a tap of the screen.

Also yesterday after noon I went for my first run with the watch and was hoping that the screen would stay on the entire run but it kept going off, I'm hoping its a setting im missing.

other than that I will wait for the sports band to come in, the band it comes with is not that great but it will do

I will talk more after a few more runs....

I received mine yesterday, so far I like it. I've had a the same surge since they came out and it was on its last gasp so the iconic came just in time. Lighter than the surge (or feels like it anyway). I'm big (6'-2") so it doesn't feel big on my wrist. Being a long time running I just use the basic functions; track my run, heart rate, distance, steps, elevation, gps so I haven't tried music, other apps.

I don't read instructions or spend time fiddling around with a device, I like to just put it on and use it so I was a bit disappointed some of the defaults I had on my surge are not the same. Also , I have a stationary bike to cross train but looks like spinning as a exercise is gone... maybe a setting I need to change.

Overall , happy with it on day two.  I'm doing the Chicago Marathon in another week, I'll update how it performed.

Cheers.

There is a setting for always on display during workouts. If you go into the exercise app and tap the gear icon in the corner of the activity you want to start, you will be able to scroll down to the option to keep the screen on.

You can add Spinning by going into the Ionic's settings within the mobile app. You would click account - click on the Ionic - scroll down to and click exercise shortcuts. First remove one you no longer want, you should then be able to add Spinning.

I've had the Ionic for a day now. Installing was a pain; the only instructions were to go to fitbit.com/setup. It took me to my blaze app. I still don't know if gps works (it tried to install for about two hours). And I have no idea where to find the software on my computer to add or remove music. the two reasons I got ionic were for the gps and music so i wouldn't have to carry my phone when I run. If these aren't available or are too much of a pain, then there's no benefit to the ionic over the blaze and I'll send mine back

I received my ionic this morning. The instructions of going to fibit.com/setup are not good for anyone that already has a fitbit. I started to add the Ionic to my already installed phone app and it was pretty smooth from that point on. I did have one little hiccup when it did the update. The Ionic said it was at 100% but the phone app said it failed. I tapped the retry button and the Ionic showed it updating again but the phone went right to saying it failed. The Ionic still show the update moving across the screen so I let it finish. The ionic screen turned green so I let it sit for a few mins. It finally showed a big green check mark saying it finished. I shut down the phone app and restarted it and it went right into the rest of the setup. I had to remove the device from the app and re-add it after the setup to get the notifications to work. The whole setup process took about 40 mins total.

I had to go outside and let the GPS get a location before the weather app found my town when I typed it in and I had to tell it what wifi to join again when I copied my music to the ionic but mostly smooth for me.

The Ionic is running really smooth and is very comfortable. I'm only waiting for fitbit pay to start working. Going to do a bike ride tomorrow with the GPS to see how that works. I also paired the ionic to my Anker speakers to play music and it works great.

All good so far except:

* Not supplying a power supply, and the small lead length didn't give a good initial impression

* Setup is a nightmare, as others have experienced it takes ages to download updates. Connecting to WiFi was difficult as well (had to do it several times before it worked!).

* No 5 GHz wifi, weird it's 2017.

* Too much reliance on Bluetooth rather than use Wifi

* No FLAC support 😞

* Software only works using portrait mode, I need landscape for my tablet 😞

* A few little annoying bugs (I've posted this elsewhere).

I have not tackled music.

I hope most of this will be quickly resolved.

Music uploading was one of the things that sold me on this band.  Instead of being “coerced” into using Apple Music on an Iwatch, being able to upload your own music was crucial in my decision.

The experience is horrendous.  Only being able to do this through WiFi on a computer ?  WTH, I currently use my phone or tablet for pretty much everything.  You should know better. It’s 2017.

@TwistSplice I have original Apple Watch and upload my own music to it, using just my phone. You aren't 'coerced' into using Apple Music, not sure where you got that idea.... Just open your iPhone, and upload your own music to Watch. No computer required.

I got my Ionic today (having cancelled my Amazon order to order from Fitbit instead). Setup was a bit of a hassle due to getting the firmware update on. Once it did get on, everything else was a breeze. The built-in GPS was the selling point for me, since the connected GPS of the Blaze was kinda wonky due to an unstable Bluetooth connection.

Yeah, i realize that. However, apple makes it really easy to sign up for their music service in order to stream on the new iwatch...something I prefer not do. (By coerced, I mean you don’t have the option to do this, for example, using amazon music.)

I was hoping that music transfer to the ionic would be a snap....it has been the biggest let down for me so far.

Apple has been doing this for 3 years now and Fitbit just started, I’m sure this is going to get easier, I have all my music on onedrive and use grove music.

When thy said to use media player I started laughing, I haven’t used media player since windows 98

I share your hope that things will get better. That being said, I know its a pre release version technically still.

I only wish to bring to light that as a stock holder with Fitbit, and with a desire to see them succeed, they fix this matter.

This.

Add in the fact that all my computers are Linux and I'm basically screwed. Not being able to manage music from the app on the phone is unacceptable.

I'm in the same boat. I use ChromeOS and Ubuntu laptops, an Android phone, Spotify and Audible. All popular operating systems and services - none of which can be used with the Ionic for audio.

Fenix 5 Plus. Previously Ionic and Surge. Google Pixels 3 and 5. Aria. Chromebook. Deezer and Audible.

@TwistSplice ok then, by that logic Fitbit coerces you to sign up for Pandora because you don't have the option of using Amazon Music to sync with Ionic.
