Hi! I just saw a thread from 2014 where a group of mom's and non-mom's set a goal to lose 20 pounds by Mother's Day. Anyone want to start one for 2015 with me? I have about 35 pounds to lose total, but 20 by May sounds like a good goal to me.
I am going to try to get my 10,0000 steps in and I am joining a gym this weekend to add strength training and cardio.

I haven't posted for a while - my husband fell and wound up in the hospital with a concussion for 4 days. Considering he is generally in ill health - this has been quite a challenge. I kept my steps at my 3,000 target but found myself eating lots of fast food. So, he is home now and I'm back and carefully tracking my food. I'm still at 12.5 lbs lost - and now I hope to see the last 7.5 drop off before MD. I joined our local senior center that has a great zero-depth pool. However, since my husband fell, I haven't made it there. I hope that I'll be able to start this week - so far it looks like a possibility.

Sorry to hear of your husband's hospitalization for a concussion. Must have been serious. Does he have ongoing damage from it?
Glad that you are back eating healthier. You can make your goal as we have 9 weeks minus a day.
All the best,
Barbara G

wonderful idea to move instead of eating. Is there something that you can do to lower the stress also?
Congrats on walking.

Thanks Barb . I don't think I can change the actual stressors - family members struggling, very real life stuff. But I have been meditating more, and the walking really does clear my head a bit. Thanks for asking.
I actually am down 2 pounds so far, and I walked 5000 steps yesterday!
How are you doing?
How is everyone else?

Wow 5000 and 2 lbs. less to carry around. Meditating and exercise the best stress busters around.
I'm getting in my 10k even if the last 800 are round and around my studio. Tonight will be easy as I have 2 dance classes to go to and maybe a third starting at 5 PM.
Last night I made a new first by taking 20,103 steps in all. This morning I weighed .9 lbs more and that was after burning lot of extra cals. But this is not stopping me as much as I'd like to see results in a lower weight. I sure must be getting more leg muscles.
Hope everyone is keeping on, keeping on.
best wishes,
Barbara

Barbara - Wow. I'm impressed with all that dancing. What kind of dancing do you do? I used to put on music and dance while I cleaned...forgot about that. The .9 means nothing. Could be water, ...anything. There are normal fluctuations. Even post-menopause (which was many many years for me) there are still fluctuations. That has nothing to do with fat or health.
And 20000!! Way to go!! I hope you reward yourself for that. I decided that when I can do 10,000 somewhat regularly, I'm buying myself a present. Maybe an antique book with a beautiful cover. Or maybe a class. I think we deserve rewards for all this hard work. And you are sure working hard!
You are inspiring. Thanks.

Hi so i would love to lose my extra 35-40# by mothers day, i got my fit bit a week ago and love it, hoping it can help me stay on track better but i def. need help. Ive been working out almost 4 days a week at home soing cardio and strength training. Not helping yet and getting frustrated. I have been trying to clean up the eating which is hard plus with 2 kids. I also just started walking at night with the family this week since in Iowa it finally started to warm up enough to be outside. Any help or advice would be great! Thanks

Thanks for support. I teach older adults, mostly late 60's thru 80 yrs olds, aerobic dance so that is 7 1/2 hours a week. Then I go ballroom dancing some evenings like tonight. Then I take 2 Zumba classes and one square dance class a week. Love dancing and it burns cals.
Menopause is 22 years ago for me.
Normal fluctuations, yes, but with all the exercise I think I turned the fat into muscle since I seem to be at a plateau for the last week to 10 days.
Not to obsess. I'm off to go dancing.
Take very good care of yourself and enjoy.

Set reasonable goals MD is 8 weeks from this next Sunday. I would set 1-2 lbs. a week as a goal. Drink lots of water, eat only healthy food in the right portions and walk, bike, dance, run etc. to lose weight. The Fitbit works well in keep track.
You have good company on the journey here.
Best,
Barbara

Wow 8 weeks away!!! Not sure that I will get to my goal (another 15 pounds as of this morning) but it is great to read everyone's journey and successes. I think I have had a bit of a break through this week. I am still plugging away at my steps (been averaging 15K/day -- never thought I would see that) and logging food on myfitnesspal (only at a 500 calorie deficit each day). This week I have been focusing on getting lots of fluids and drinking lots of dandelion tea to try to figure out if my weight fluctuations have something to do with fluid retention -- I seem to have hit on something -- so far I have lost 1/2 pound or so every day this week -- another couple of pounds and we will be back to where I was a few weeks ago. So I am feeling much more motivated
I also came across this web site and thought you might be interested -- it is not a great simulation but still kinda fun to play around with http://www.changeinseconds.com/simulator/

You are homefree with 8 weeks and only 4 more lbs. to go.
I'm plateauing but have 7.4 to go by MD.
Hope that we are all successful in our goals.

Hi everyone of us getting healthier women,
Barely moved yesterday in comparison to my usual 10K+ days. Was tired and unmotivated and needed more sleep. so went to bed by 11:30 and got 9 hrs sleep. Bingo I'm back with normal energy so I attacked the dishes that had piled up in the sink for days. Hauled my laundry down stairs to the washer and started sweeping and cutting up small branches to recycle. Going to the movies soon so need to move more now. Ooops I just remembered that I need to clear the piles off the passenger seat for my neighbor to have a place to sit.
The weird thing after yesterday with only 4380 steps and going over food allowance I finally lost almost 2 lbs.. This is absolutely crazy but I finally touched 145.6 this AM. 8 weeks to MD and 5.6 more to go. When I get there I'll decide if I want to try for 135 or not.
I was aiming for 142 on Apr 2, my 74th BDay, but hey if I'm 143 I won't whine or complain. My pants fit better and the profile is less apple bellied so far so good. Shapies (spandex) under pants help.
Many days of very active & one day of less and the morning weigh in surprise.
Hope that all of you are walking, running, dancing or moving and enjoying yourselves. All the very best to you.
Take the power back from those scales as you may be building muscle. Now up out of this very comfy chair.
Yours in health,
Barbara
