Jumpin' June 2017 (Step) Goal Challenge

ANSWERED

How It Works:

The purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for June 2017. This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency . So whether you do 100,1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 30 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.

Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day

Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format

1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.

2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

Optional

3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.

4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

Oddly enough, the optional items keep growing, that's why I changed the title slightly.  In the end it's about setting goals and improving habits.  So the optional items can really be anything.  Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc.  Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you would be aiming for a number not necessarily out of 30.  Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice

If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@GershonSurge- ouch, doesn't sound like fun.  Hope everything is okay in a little while.

It's been a bad week all around for me.  I knew that being away was going to be a challenge, however, there were issues at work Wed that started before we got back.  I came back directly to the plant and didn't get home until well past midnight.  Then was back at 6am the next day so I could leave early as my 89-yr old mother was admitted to the hospital on the day I was traveling back.  Thursday I left work and was in the hospital until 8pm, then came home and worked.  Today I was up at 4am and spent the first 5 hours of my day driving over 4 hours.  I did manage to leave just after noon and get a swim in, along with a soak in the hot tub, before getting on another call.  Then I got off the call and ran a personal errand, that involved about 2 hours of driving.

Tomorrow will be gardening, a visit with my mother (although the issue is serious, she's been released, long term prognosis pending), more gardening.  I'll need to fit in laundry at some point because I'm running out of clean clothing.  Sunday I'll be back at work.  Even without this last issue the next two weeks was going to be insane.  I just keep reminding myself that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  Part of me suspects that it is the train.  I spent some time this week trying to decide if I were qualified to do something else for a living.  Not a case of changing jobs, but just not sure if I'm happy with my industry in general.  Then I remind myself that I tried that before and was unchallenged.

I saw a sign in a garden center today that they were hiring.  However, I know it's seasonal work... but for a moment I was tempted.  Anyways, enough rambling, an update and then some sleep.  My weekly average is only 5+ hours (closer to 5 than 6) and last week I made up for that by sleeping 12 hours Friday night (10h 30m of actual sleep).  However, that's not a good pattern.

1) 10,000 steps a day

2) 26 days strength training (6 days on, 1 day off)

3) 30 days - single push-up

4) 15 days of laps in the pool

8/30 on the steps  (only missed Thurs)

7/26 on the strength training (may make up Thurs on Sunday)

9/30 on the push-ups (did a couple at the plant on Thurs)

3/15 for the pool

We wound up taking our friend to Longwood Gardens in PA yesterday evening.  The fountain light show was spectacular -- and I got plenty of steps.

Here are a couple pics at the main fountain.

Hope you make a full and rapid recovery and get back to your streak. It's so frustrating having to end a long run of success.

Sorry to hear about your fall @GershonSurge and your mother @A_Lurker. My week was pretty trouble free by comparison.

10k steps 9/30

.5 hour activity 9/30

1+ pushup 9/30 (Starting: 1 reg 4 modified, Best so far: 14 modified Total: 89)

1+ crunch 8/30 (Starting: 10, Best so far: 20 Total:130)

1+ plank 8/30 (Starting: likely 30 seconds as I counted fast, Best so far: 55 seconds with a stopwatch)

28 ounces fruit/veg 8/10

Scale seems to have finally adjusted to the increase in fruit and vegetables. We'll see if it holds tomorrow, but today was a pretty big drop. Was able to do my exercises after all, just kept my neck as straight as possible during crunches and it was fine.

Day Ten

1. 10,000 steps/day. I will be consistent in June!
10/30

2. Running. I will run 70 miles during the month.

25.2/70

One third of the way through the month and making good progress.

I've hit 10,000 steps every day. Worst day 10,200, best day 23,400.

I'm 36% of the way toward my 70 mile target, so ever so slightly ahead of the curve.

Short run this evening was great. 3.5miles in 32 minutes. I'm definitely getting quicker.

@GershonSurge  Hope you're okay and that some rest will fix you right back up.

@A_Lurker  I'm sending you some warm thoughts and hope next week is better all around for you.

-

10th:

1) 10/26 days - 5000 steps or equal stationary activity (like spinning)

2) 3/9 days - gym program

3) 3/4 days - hiking

4) 1/4 days - take it slow

Today's hike felt incredible and to feel so much improvement over last year when I was just starting out was such a treat.

For some reason following a gym day by two days of hiking hasn't made my body worse for wear and I have no idea what's going on but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Also feels good to be ahead on my hiking goal since it's expected to rain all of next week and that just doesn't go well with hiking.

Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Thanks everyone for expressing your concerns about my fall. The cat (if it was involved) is fine. I'll start walking and running again tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll start another 10,000 step streak yet.

@GershonSurge -- thanks for sharing the positive update.  I was a little worried about the cat ...  and you too, of course.

Yesterday I decided to take a rest day from pushups and planks as I haven't gained much ground at all on those this week. I still did crunches. Next month I'm going to just plan for 5 or 6 days a week of those. Everyday is a lot easier to remember, but, curious if rest days would help me make more gains there. I would LOVE to eventually be able to do 100 pushups and crunches.

I had a baby shower to attend and had promised my spouse that we'd finally eat the frozen pizza. I was still walking around the house at 11 pm trying to get my calorie intake and burn to line up. Finished the day with what was hopefully an 800 calorie deficit, but, had to estimate at the baby shower. Yesterday's weight was almost a full lb down in one day, so, expected that to uptick a bit, still .4 down from my previous low, so, must have kept something of a deficit. Knew I wouldn't be able to eat all those veggies with all the other food I was going to eat yesterday, so just had 12 ounces and called that enough for one day. Way ahead on my veggie goal anyways, next month I'm going to revise that up a bit.

Edited to add today's info. Finished early but figured no one would appreciate my bumping the thread, yet again.

2. Running. I will run 70 miles during the month.

Consistency is slowly becoming a habit! Not that I can afford to become complacent.

I'm at 11 days of at least 10,000 steps for this month, but 34 days in total.

Next run is tomorrow morning.
