Setting sane fat loss goals, care to join me?

Hi all.  I have a fat loss goal of 97 pounds.  (insert sounds of sobbing and head banging off keyboard).  I've been "trying" to lose that weight for so long now I've about given up.

Seven years ago I went on the jenny diet (will never make THAT mistake again) which resulted, after 18 months, in a loss of 58 pounds.  I was never so hungry in my whole life and TIRED!  I had NO energy at all.  I fought for the last 5 years to keep it off but it has almost all crept back on.  Then I got my Flex.

For xmas hubby gave me the Aria so between the two I now have to face facts.  Sitting on my backside is what's keeping the weight slowly creeping upwards.

I've started back at my local gym on the treadmill.  I still haven't reached 10,000 steps in one day yet.  The highest I've managed has been about 7500.  My daily average when I don't do much is about 2800.  So there's a slight improvement.

I also started tracking my food intake on my dashboard.  That was a revelation when coupled with how much energy I'd burned during the day.  It's one thing to "know" that calories and movement determine your weight.  It's a whole other thing to actually see the numbers.  Can't hide from THAT truth.

Anyway.  I have set my goals and am aiming for 2 pounds fat loss a week.  Anyone care to join me?

I'm in too, I am like the other posts I have read. I've lost 16kg before and nearly put it all back on, the more active I am the better I eat and the better I eat the more active I am! I just want to steadily lose weight, no long term targets but a consistant amount would be good. I will set short term (2-3 week) targets then reasses that way I never get too far behind my target so it becomes impossible...this is my problem with saying 10kg in 10 weeks - after 3 weeks I have an impossible target :-).

So by valentines day I will aim for 1.7kg - about 500g a week and it takes me to my next milestone. Then I will see how I am going, what may need changing, and whats coming up (weddings, birthdays etc) and set another short term goal.

Right lets get going

I am in too! I am 49 and 46.2 lbs over weight. My goal is single digit pants and small to med tops...I don't care about weight so much as how I feel. I want a normal BMI and bloodwork.  At the end of the day, when I look in the mirror I want to be able to say, **ahem** for a 50 year old you look good!

If I could provide you with a 3 week workout program and meal plan that helps you with portion control- literally tells you what to eat and HOW MUCH of it to eat- allows Chocolate & WINE on the menu, and you could lose 10+ pounds in the 3 weeks, would you anyone be interested?! It comes out in February and I am going to try it out and would love a group to do it with to keep accountable. I believe the cost is around $60.00 for all of the material, the workouts, the recipes and the portion containers. Send me a message and leave me with your email or email me at burke.christina@hotmail.com. I would really love to have a group to do this with!!!

I would love to join you as well, at 51.  I got my Fibit in Oct  and set it up and promptly put in the drawer.   Finally pulling it out telling myself that I am going use it.

I got on the scales seeing that I need to lose 74 lbs, like many just said screw it.  I am just going to be fat the rest of my life.  As well as unhappy and not go anywhere due to the fact I hate the way that I look.  I never buy clothing or anything else.

I had started to T-25 with Shaun T and really like the program, but think that I need more  than just that.  I have a treadmill that I have started to use for45 minutes at a time as well.  I am in the process of changing my diet.  I have stopped eating fast foods and fried foods.  For the most part I try to get the fruits and veggies need per day, but that is usually in a smoothie.  I also stopped my Carnation French Vanilla creamer addiction.

I look foward to your advice and help through the process.

Those are my exact goals, md1020  I would love to be in a single size pants.  I have not seen that in ages.  I wanted to be a hot looking 40 year old but that was 5 years ago.  I have 50 lbs to lose maybe.  I would stop when I got into a decent sized pants.

Hi everyone. Just read this post today and definitely need the motivation. I am 45, married, have two sons (25 and 22) and a Puggle. I realized I had a weight issue when I was in middle school when kids started calling me names. Anyway, fast forward to getting married and having children. Never lost the baby weight. When I hit 30 I had started a new job and was able to lose 20 lbs. Since then I had gained almost 80 lbs in 15 years. I woke up one day and just couldn't stand what I saw in the mirror. I decided to join Weight Watchers last January and my husband and I bought fitbit zips shortly after that. With the combination of both I have dropped 46 lbs. I have never been active so it took me some time to get to 10,000 steps. I started off with a smaller goal and worked my way up. Now I have noticed that my body has gotten used to the 10,000 steps and I actually have to walk more before I can lose weight. The fitbit really keeps me aware of my activity for the day. If I get home from work and I haven't met my goal for the day, I will walk around the house till I make it. I wish I could get myself to do other exercise besides the walking. I think this support group will be great for all of us. Can't wait to hear everyones success stories as we go through this journey. 🙂

Yes yes yes! 18 months ago, I counted calories and moved my body and lost 95#. I slowly stopped paying attention and gained about 40# I received a fitbit force from my company as a Christmas gift. It has motivated me to pay attention and eat healthy. I am moving again! In 2 weeks, I am down 5#! Only 200 to go! I would love to cheer every on! Let's do this! My focus is on creating a lean fit healthy body.
I am. 55 yr old grandma, I have an injured knee and nothing is going to stop me. Not even the rain out here in the PNW.
I noticed that when I get on my treadmill, if I hold on when I am walking, no steps are counted. I walked for 10 mins this morning and zero steps. Darn it. Any suggestions? Letting go, probably not a good option with my knee right now.

I have a force also and when I am on the elliptical I had the same problem.  I put it around my ankle (the best I could; I use my sock to keep it there) and it seemed to track my steps better.

I know how you feel.  I am 6' tall and weighed 127 pounds until my 50s.  Having been thin all my life and eating EVERYTHING I wanted makes it really hard to learn how to NOT eat everything I want.  I have a goal of losing 50 pounds and love the fitbit because as you said...it is a whole new reality to see the numbers in front of your face daily.  When it is cold outside I dont want to go out and walk, so today I walked 2.5 miles around the house.  The dogs thought I was insane, but I felt such a sense of accomplishment!  I LOVE chocolate and have discovered nature valley oats and chocolate granola bars...190 calories for 2 bars and they taste like candy so I dont feel deprived.  I hate the scale these days but force myself to get on it daily.  I am hoping THOSE numbers will keep me on track.

I just joined in January. I also need to lose about 90 pounds. I would love to join you in this journey. I need all the help I can get. I am a 52 years old, female. I have the fitbit. I have worn it since January 1. I spent alot of time trying to figure food out. After wearing the zip I discovered it was my activity level that needed changes more than my food. I am extremely picky about food. I was so sure I was moving enough. I can see now that I haven't at all.

Since I have started to tracking my food and steps I have done better.  I have lost 5 pounds in two weeks so far. I have cut out all gluten products from our diet.  I am going to try making bread and such that is gluten free.  I think that my daughter has a gluten issue.   I have also cut out all sugar from my diet expect what I put in my coffee as well as a chocolate once a week or so.

I try and get 10000 steps a day and have mananged to do that so far for the last month.  I had made a commitment to walk 45 minutes on my treadmill every day.  The longest that I have done in the treadmill is an hour 15 to get to the steps. So if you would like someone to help you cheer you one I would do that.
