Oh, I love that idea about the jacket! What motivation that is. A visual reminder that'll make you determined on off days, and a fantastic (non-food) reward/prize for accomplishing your goal. That's awesome!

Hi @tamado. You are right about the statistics that most people put the weight back on and usually a bit more too. I am a living testament to this. You are not wrong to consider it and try to prevent it happening. My mother seems to have beaten the odds and the way that she has done it is to stay in a slimming club for over 30 years. She belongs to Slimming World, a UK version of Weight Watchers. I on the other hand have lost the weight and then quit. May be the key is to sticking to weighing in every week and not taking your eye off the ball until a magic pill arrives

Thanks for the input everybody! I'm beginning to think that Monday is just not a great day for doing a weigh in. I tend to take Sundays completely off-not from watching the food necessarily, but from any activity other than stuff like doing laundry and grocery shopping. Saturdays are really tough karate days (about 2.5-3.5 hours) and my old body just needs a re-coup day. I might move to Wednesdays and see if that works. From past experiences, I do tend to bounce around a bit during the week, but weighing every day makes my more anxious and tends to make me want to bail in the whole thing. Here's to a better week...I hope.

Some people weigh daily and use an average. I use Sundays as I tend to sleep in and TMI usually have a bowel movement. During the week I may run out the door before I do so.
If your muscles are sore after karate you're almost certainly retaining some water while those stressed muscles repair themselves. At a point where I was lifting heavy (low reps) I would often get muscle soreness more than a day after, and if I remember correctly my weight would go up. I'd lift three days a week, then take two days off (just walking and swimming). At this point my weight would drop.
As long as you don't freak out with the ups and downs, consider daily weighing and trendweight.com to track it. You don't need to have a wifi scale, it will pull your daily weights from your fitbit account.

So, a little more weight loss than expected this week. Again, not looking at the ups and downs, but overall trends. I tried to do a rest day yesterday but still ended up making a point to burn a certain amount and walk a certain number of steps. This goes back to my all or nothing attitude. I can't seem to hit in between. Today I got up at 5am and ended up going back to sleep, so I'm not even up to 500 steps at noon. I'm going to try and balance the day with doing something, but not doing steps around the basement to make them up. Of course, this also means a very low cal day. So, off to make a breakfast of eggs/egg whites and maybe a small amount of cheese and some fruit on the side.

I turn 40 on Thursday. I will be over 100 lbs lighter than when I started, 125 lighter than my heaviest and healthier than I was when I graduated. I can't think of a better gift to myself as I start my 40's. My wife is 42 and quite healthy as well and we have enjoyed outdoor activity more this year than any before. Cheers everyone, it's a good week (I even had a piece of my own birthday cake this weekend - but it was small...)

Better week this week-put a lot less pressure on myself and tried to fit in what I could. Threw out my back on Friday-attempted run was aborted after 15 mins because I just couldn't take it. It seems to be getting better now, and I've got a chiropractor appointment tomorrow (YAY!) so all should be much better before our three hour test on Friday night. Once thing I did do was push water after my class on Saturday, and that seemed to make a big difference.

So, as expected, my weight is up. The one thing I notice about eating out is how salty things are. I rarely add salt to things I cook. I had dinner on Friday night sitting outside (near a river) and the meal was fantastic, and relatively simple. Steak with mushrooms and onions, broccolini, and roasted potatoes. Not really far off from what I might have made myself. I could definitely taste the salt though in the meal, yet I don't think it was necessarily over-salted (if that makes sense). So, lots of guessing Wed-Sat when I got home, and....

And I was almost down a pound Wed morning before I left, so the jump is higher. Honestly, I don't care because we all know you can't gain over 6 pounds in 4 days. Well, not unless you're eating huge amounts of food, which I didn't do.
I had a good time though, which included dinner with a friend I don't see as much since I stopped going to the US monthly. We ended up at a place called the Deadwood Bar & Grill (Northville, MI) and had a fantastic evening... although I did drink more than I usually do. On Friday I actually hit a personal best (over 15,000 steps) and it made me realize that I have to work on my stamina a bit more. Saturday I couldn't repeat it, and for the first time had issues with the two trackers syncing. I think it was partly because there were both in immediate range. I came back showing over 9000 steps (glanced at the tracker in the elevator) and then was down to just over 6000 in the room when it synced. I manually added it, but it was odd. I also have one evening where it took my sleep readings from the Blaze I wasn't wearing.
Friday night I sat in the semi-dark to dark outdoor patio enjoying my meal (and a decent bourbon or two) and woke up to a horrible rainy day to drive home through. I need to do some weeding and bulb planting but it's pretty wet outside at the moment. I may wait and try later in the afternoon (although it does look like it's going to be a hot day). Definitely not complaining as it will be fall/winter here soon enough.
