Fun little non-scale victory this week.  I wore 40w/30l jeans for years (and some 42) and have been working my way down.  I have also been having issues with 30 being too short because I am actually wearing them at my waist and my crotch isn't around my knees.  I tried on a bunch of jeans this week and ended up buying a couple of pairs of 30w/32l - the first time since grade 10 that the first number was smaller than the second.  The little victories are fun.

Today marks an interesting day for me. I guess it's a type of anniversary. I never said "I am going on a diet" but at the beginning of my decisions to live healthier was a choice to quit drinking pop and 99% of sugary beverages. One year ago today I was out for supper in Battleford after an evening ride with friends and eating a steak and drinking a coke. I looked down and realized that I could not get serious about it and continue this way. So, on the ride home, I decided to not drink pop anymore.
One year, 103 lbs and 10 pants sizes later my waist is finally a smaller number than the length on my jeans for the first time since grade 10.

@DanielleinDC - the closer you are to your goal weight the slower it's going to be.  You just can't cut as many calories as you get closer.  I look at it this way, every week you're lighter thats a step in the right direction.  Cat Happy

Hello,  I never understood when people said they didn't have time to lose weight. These last two weeks have been crazy here.  Luckily I made mainly good food choices, but any weight loss this time is motivated by stress.

Starting weight, August 15--80 kilos

Current weight, October 2--78.2 kilos

goal weight----70 kilos

@Pamala - it can take a lot of time.  I find getting the steps in easier, but the food preparation can take a lot of time.  Some nights I'll cook a breakfast to take with me and pack my lunch for the next day.  Other nights I don't and then I have to be more careful about my food choices the next day.

So last Sunday I joined a website to track my lifting (I figured forking out $ to do so would add extra motivation), put in my planned workouts for the next 12 weeks and started.  I had a migraine on Thursday (a workout day) but managed to make up for it on Friday.  It tracks how much you lift each session and so over three workouts I lifted 12,232 pounds.  Of course, the fall down is that you get zero credit for bodyweight exercises, but no problems.  In my opinion I'm lifting way lighter than I used to, so it will be interesting to see how that changes.  Oh, since someone asked in another thread - 15 reps of 65lbs = 975 lbs (so that's how they add up).

PW: 282.2 (9/25/16)

GW: 275.8

LT: 2.3 lbs/week for 35 weeks

So, technically a milestone this week of sorts.  My original start weight this time was at a medical appointment about a month before I weighed in work.  I was adding 2lbs for my work weigh ins as I had checked that already at home (it was only doing whole pounds and I just logged those until I went to daily weighing).  When I went back I asked about the early Feb weigh in and it was 162.2kg (356.8lbs), I was fully dressed (+2) and was middle of the day, so I just called it 360.  Wow, that's a long way to go to say that I hit 80 lbs down this week.  I saw 279.8 yesterday, but bounced up a little this morning.  My usual routine says I'll probably be up a little tomorrow, but by the end of next week I should be solidly under that 80 pounds lost level.

Anyway, off to start the chores for the day...

@A_Lurker: you’re doing fantastic! Have you noticed any changes in the calculated deficit it takes you to lose 1 lb now vs. when you started? What’s your plan from now on?

@Dominique - I haven't run the deficit vs. pounds again, and probably won't for a couple of months.  I added a second tracker into the mix (Blaze, part time, maybe weekends now with the reminder to move function) and thought I'd wait until more time had passed.  The current plan is to keep my calories burned up through increasing activity, and keep an eye on the average number of pounds per week.  When it drops to sub-2lbs/week overall I may adjust then.  I started a lifting plan of which stage 1 is 8 weeks (plus 2 bonus workout which I may or may not do). That brings me to mid-Nov which is a little past what I planned as a maintenance week.  So, I think at that point I'll stop, regroup, run the numbers and see what I'll do after that.

Stayed the same this week. Going at a snails pace still. I am happy with this pace though. It took me five years to gain 50 kg and I dont mind losing it at the same pace. My main concern is keeping it off once it has gone.

Congratulations on losing 80lbs @A_Lurker that is a fantastic acheivement. I enjoy reading your posts and your committment to stats. I use spreadsheets and charts as well to keep me going - I monitor the trends of weght loss and steps as my markers. As long as the trends are going in the right direction I am happy.

I started walking more and eating less a week ago. Got my Blaze four days ago, which has really encouraged me to keep at it. I want to get down to 5.6 kgs. and flatten my belly. Following others in this forum will help me, too, I'm sure.

Start weight:            85.6 kg. 12/09/2016

Now:                       83.4 kg.  19/09/2016

Loss this week:        2.2 kg.

Maintenance mode week 10

Target Range: 165 +/-5 lbs

Loss Range 100 lbs +/- 5 lbs

I am trying something new.  I still want to weigh in for accountability but my brain has trouble logging a gain without feeling guilty - even when it's .2.  If I want to call myself in maintenance, then I cannot be trying to see the same or lower weight every week.  So, I am setting my range and going to aim to stay within it.

Best Answer

@tamado - I think that sounds like a good way to approach it.  I think the important thing is to keep stepping on that scale and keep an eye on that upper range.  Maintenance may come naturally to some, but I think the more you've lost the more you have to keep an eye on it.  I know when the time comes for me what you're doing makes sense to me.

@Dominique - just for fun I did it until the end of September.  I can only do back about 6.5 months as I wasn't tracking food at the beginning.  Month to month it swings way too much (from as few as 2475 calories to as high as 5976, with no pattern yet).  I may play around again and try week to week but I need to go burn some more calories before bed and have a snack.  I'm not sure it will show any better as some weeks my intake will be more accurate than others (ie. eat at home/prepare food vs travel and/or buy food).  So, for 6.5 month we have:

Total deficit:     251,728 calories

Pounds lost:           64.1

Deficit per pound:  3930 calories

I still have, if I'm realistic, about 150 pounds to go, which means between 1 and 2 years of data.  It will be interesting after all that if it ends up being 3500 calories.  Like all stats though, it requires many data points, so we'll see where it ends up.

@A_Lurker: I think the average over a longer period makes more sense. An average of 3950 over more than 6 months is really impressive. It would tend to suggest slow and steady indeed wins the race. The good thing about eating enough and exercising reasonably, as I believe you are doing (as opposed to hardly eating and exercising like crazy, "Biggest loser" style) is that you’ll still be able to make adjustments along the road if needed (eat a bit less and/or exercise a bit more).

Thanks @A_Lurker.  The upper range is more what I tolerate after eating and later in the day.  I can see my scale fluctuate from 162-167 in a 24 hour span so I had to leave a bit more buffer than that to allow for actual gains and losses.  Maintaining a healthy weight is very new to me but I have really taken to the way I am eating these days.  A large amount of vegetables, a reasonable amount of protein and a moderate amount of carbs.  I am a bit tempted by sweets the odd time but I am able to limit it fairly well (last night I had one square of a dark chocolate bar and was able to keep it to that - that kind of thing).  I am not much for processed foods and I am happy to avoid them.  I miss the odd restaurant indulgence but I see more and more how they try to fill you with cheap carbs and if you do not eat them, you leave hungry.  I feel life is pretty balance right now so we will see what the next year looks like.  My current goal is to maintain to my two year anniversary.  I want to maintain for a lifetime, but I can see a year ahead of me so I want a target I can keep my eye on.
