looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

Plodding along with things have been quite good with my food.  Struggling to walk this evening but did a playlist for myself and looking forward to some good music which helps motivate me. Do you guys listen to podcasts?  I have been listening to some interesting health and food ideas lately Jonathan bailor being one it's interesting just in terms of eating smarter anyhow sometimes I think everything's a fad,  I mean the industry wants us overweight doesn't it?  Due to weigh myself tomorrow hopefully I have lost but I'm trying to focus more on the long term goals and accept this weight didn't was slow to be gained it's not going to fall off!  Hope everybody is doing good.

Hi Rose, I'm Barbara. I'm in Reno, NV, USA. I have lost 2 stone so far and
need to lose at least another stone. I have been stuck here at this weight
for almost a year.
I was recently laid off from my job of 23 years, so stress has to be a
great part. I just this week started a new job, very much harder and 1/2
again more hours so I'm hoping I will lose weight naturally with this
change.
One bad thing that has happened is that my friends from my past work no
longer contact me and it has only been a few months...kind of sad. I hope I
haven't treated people like that in the past.
It really sounds like you know where your problems are. Get more exercise,
fresh air and keep smiling. Don't stop eating but eat properly with a
little of the good things. You have read enough to know how to count
calories and save a few for a small glass of wine* or *a chocolate.
Just do your best!

Yes, I have kept the 25 off. Thank the Lord. I'm not eating as much so
pretty soon the weight has to come off. I'm not getting as many steps but
I'm working for 12 hours instead of a desk job for 8... who knows? I'm
finally sleeping better.
How are you doing Daithilocha?

Hi Barbara

I work shift too and I think you need to be especially organised with food. You obviously have it well together in that department and in that regard well done you.  Things like almonds cucumber sticks even sliced chicken I find work for me.  Hard boiled eggs are my on the go food if I don't organise myself I tend to go off the rails so for me I think you need to be extra organised with long shifts.  That said if you have been sedentary hopefully the extra moving about will really help.  I weighed myself this morning another 2 pounds gone pleased with that.  It's still an effort thou it hasn't become a habit yet but that takes time I guess.  I know what you mean about friends i had a couple that it always seemed to be me keeping in touch and reaching out so I just left it and the friendships dwindled.  I'm at a place in my life where I would like to become more social I think when you are carrying weight well for me anyway I kind of withdrew socially.  It made me depressed in a way where I could t face people or avoided them where I could.  No more of that and I'm gonna make an effort.  Great you are sleeping better that's a big deal for health and general happiness.

I'm very social.
Having trouble with my fitbit account so it might be a bit of time before I
can contact you again.
I have never heard the name Daithilochat; very difficult to say and spell.
Do you have a shorter, "nick" name?
I go by Barbara or Barb

Barb, sorry to hear about you losing your job - I go through the same fears at my work, it's a constant worry since it was bought by a corporation who then laid off 70% of the workers!  So far, so good for me but no one at work knows what will happen tomorrow.  I'm 61 and starting over at a new job, in a state with under 4% unemployment, well, it can get stressful.

I've lost about 9 lbs. this year, though doesn't sound like much it feels great.  Have about only 6 or 7 more I'd like to lose, so you know how difficult it can be at that point.  I've tracked and logged every meal, every bit of food and drink on a log I made in Excel (since Jan. 1!) and weigh and measure myself every Sunday morning. My Fitbit has actually motivated me to shoot for 10K steps a day.  My son gave it to me for Xmas - I have a sedentary computer job but I try and walk during breaks and treadmill at night.  It's hard to motivate to go down to workout but I LOVE it when I do!

Hey! the 50s have it!....My fit bit keeps me focussed.  I love my fitbit, but more than the tracker i love the food and calorie mechanism and seeing change over time!

Go fabulous 50s steppers.

Hello all, can I butt in 🙂 I'm 52, lost 42lbs a couple of years ago but they're sneaking back on and I've got to shift 14lbs or I'll be back to where I started. I've lost the same 42lbs about 6 times which is depressing but hey ho.

Menopause is crap, it's harder to shift my lard so exercise has to be where I focus on - got my new Fitbit on, and am determined to do 10,000 steps a day which must help. Though like many of you, I work long hours in a quite sedentary job which makes it hard. But it's gotta be done.

Off to prep my supper now and persuade my husband that we cant continue to eat rubbish and that cauliflower rice is just the same as lovely boiled carbs.

It is so much struggle.  I get a few great days in (even 20) and then i get sick or something and loose my momentum.  But, i have been doing the walking and tracking the food.  I like what you said about convincing your husband that cauliflower is just like rice. 🙂

Welcome to the group. We can all relate to hating menopause and all that comes with it. But with being diligent about our diet and exercise we can and will beat it. Actually my menopause symptoms subside when I’m eating clean and exercising, which is always a challenge. So here’s to cheering now another along our journey of wellness!

Hi there, I'm approaching 51 (at the end of December). When I turned 50 I
was needing to drop about 35lbs. So far I have lost 16. It sure isn't
easy, but it's coming off. I have still about 20lbs to go. We'll get
there.
