looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

Hi Apachehorse! I relate to what you are saying about increasing protein and still not losing. I did the same and got the same result! I have come to these conclusions for myself. Eat healthy (fresh , whole foods), limit the bread to breakfast (bread love to stick on me), drink my water, and move. Food is simply the fuel to be active and I have to be active to lose. Tried the 500 calories a day, tried the high protein, tried just working out an hour a day....it didn't work. Lost 25 lbs. once I got my Fitbit flex and it tracked my steps, miles and food. Just got the Fitbit Charge HR. Now I want to climb the steps all day! I love the challenge. I guess what I am really saying is, I found that over-thinking and trying a single-focused method didn't work for me. It had to be all in - food, activity, and attitude. I would beat myself up when I didn't lose like others. Now I can just look at my Fitbit and know that I am on my journey. Today makes a difference yet it is just today and not the total outcome. Be encouraged. Soul search, track and trust your body. Hang in. I am 50 and menopausal. Like really, how did this happen!

I will keep trying, my husband started this 3 weeks ago and down 15, and keeps telling me. I really do. It eat bread, not a bread person but love popcorn, so I do that instead. Not gonna give up, but going to Florida in 3 weeks, need to lose something by then, won't make me thin but makes ha feel better.

Everybody's body is different.  But I do know that 500 calories a day is NOT good for anyone

Apachehorse, I was on Curves Complete several years ago and they had me take a break from dieting about every three months. I'm going to suggest you take a break from dieting for a couple of weeks, as well. You may be right about your body being so used to dieting that it's fighting you. Use your Fitbit to eat the number of calories you take in- no more, no less. Then start dieting again. You may just need to reset your metabolism. Good luck!

Definitely not,it can put you into ketoacidosis, not a good thing. Besides it eats muscle more, than fat

I love Curges, did for a few years, unfortunately most left my area. I belong to a big gym, but that is it ,a big gym, too many people. curves was great , small, mainly women. I avoid going to mine, not that I am worried what others think, just hate too many people and also, what machine or where to go next. I exercise at home now, love my DVDs .

Hi,

I am also 50 and in full menopause. I have struggled with trying to lose weight also. Tried this diet and that diet. For the first time in 7 years I am finally on the real journey of losing weight. I agree that it doesn't take any ONE step, but rather the whole big picture. What is working for me is: tracking my food, and sticking to a certain calorie range daily. It is very easy to stick with tracking the food with the fitbit app on a smart phone. But there are other food tracking sites if you don't have a smart phone. I have also watched my food portions, as in only a minimal amount of sweet treats. I only allow myself one sweet treat a day that is 100 calories or less. I started out with a reasonable step goal and then increase that goal as I feel I am able to reach each new goal. Get into some challenges via the smart phone app, or other ways that force you to want to move. 64 or more oz. of water daily. No sodas, except on rare occasion and only diet soda. When I go out to eat I look online first and find a smart calorie choice and then only eat half of the meal. I started this weight loss journey on Jan 5, 2015 and have lost 17 pounds since then. Every time my motivation wanes I re-commit to this journey and call on some of my new fitbit friends. Not only am I going to do it, I am doing it. You can too.

I agree - it's about the entire picture, which is why I love my Fitbit. I started my weight loss with Medifast this time, and while it gave me a giant boost at the beginning, it is very expensive, so I've been transitioning off of it for the past month. I'm still losing, though. Thanks to tracking with the Fitbit app, I'm able to track my food against my exercise and know pretty much what I can eat in a day, which is the piece of the puzzle I've been missing. I've lost a steady average of 1.5 pounds per week since late October, and I'm down 26.5 pounds since I started. I can't believe it's taken me so many years to figure it out (my husband's been saying it for 29 years), but it really is about being intentional and consistent with my behavior.

@Frogee I am doing alot of the same things you are and they are finally working for me also. I am almost 10 years older than you and have not lost any significant weight in about 15 years.  I would lose a few pounds, gain it back and then give up.

It's so impressive that you have lost 17 lbs. in just 6 weeks! Keep up the good work and thanks for helping the rest of us stay motivated!!

Congratulations Frogee! 17 lbs is amazing. I like your can-do philosophy and it was a good reminder for me since my husband just walked in with a piping hot pizza and I am sorely tempted.

My fitbit isn't logging all my steps. I noticed yesterday that my steps should have been much higher and were under 7,000. Today I went to the gym, worked out for an hour and then walked for 25 minutes on the treadmill at 3.7 mph (with a 3.5% incline) and then ran some errands. When I got home it only registered my steps as being at ust over 2,000. Has anybody else had this issue?

I tried using the fitbit to log my food but I found the my fitness pal easier to use.  Is anyone using this?  Have you been successful?  After a week or two of not losing I tend to give up and get discuraged and go back to bad eating habits and not tracking.  Congrats to all who are having success!

I started changing my eating habits and turning them into healthier eating habits as a New Year's Resolution.  I started exercising in January.  I'm female and on 2/6 I turned 51 and got my fitbit on 2/8.   I have lost some inches since the beginning of the year had not weighed myself until I got my fitbit.  Since day one using fitbit I've lost 2 pounds.

In menopause and setting a goal to loose 50 pounds.  Taking it one day at a time.

All the best to everyone..
