looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

Men always lose weight faster and more easily than women.  Just biology.  Great that you are so motivated to see results yourself ... you are worth the effort!! 🙂  I am 54 years old and post-menopausal.  It has been interesting for me to log my calories burned vs consumed each day.  I burn fewer calories now than I did when I was younger.  On days where I do not go for a run or log extra miles, I burn just 1,300 calories so if I want to lose weight, I have to eat less than that.  I try not to eat least than 1,200 calories a day because I do not want to slow my metabolism down even further.  My best bet is to make sure I get in enough steps to burn more calories.  With this intention (and steps walked or jogged), I am now burning 1,800 calories on most days so I can enjoy reasonable meals and not just vegetables for dinner 😉 Some days I burn up to 2,500 calories and can enjoy 1 or 2 glasses of wine and maybe even a scoop of slow churned ice cream or a Girl Scout cookie.  The dashboard on my desktop computer and smart phone help me stay on top of this balance.  I may not lose weight every week but I have lost a total of 6 lb in one month which is more than I was doing previously with other weight loss approaches that were severely restrictive or used averages and did not necessary work for me.  Wishing you all the best! 🙂

@crystalshipthanks for your kind words. I am surprised also that I have lost that much weight in such a short amount of time. I think the biggest reason is because I am now on the move a ton. I have lost and gained the same 10 pounds, 15 pounds, etc...over the past 7 years. I am determined to stick with it this time.

Just had to post lol, I put on my fit bit band, got to work , went to sync band and guess what , left the little piece that I need in the charger. Soooo no steps for me today. Except in my mind, but I am leaving the band on to remind me lol.

I roll out a mini tramp rebounder and watch tv while marching or bouncing.  Getting steps and not snacking...just water.

It really should be science. If you have a 3600 calorie deficit then you should loose a pound. Don’t give up, just pay attention to how many calories in vs how many calories burned.

@MDS61 I also use myfitnesspal to log my food. I had been using it for a couple of years and found it easier to continue rather than learn a new application. I like how it synchs with the fitbit and between the 2 tools am finally losing weight.

Hi;  I'm new here.

I'm trying to lose a great deal of weight that has snuck up on me in the past year. I joined weight watchers then discovered Fitbit and realize I can do all I want here. Just started the Fit bit last week and discovered just how sedentary I have become this long long long winter. I write so chained to a chair much of the time but my natural inclination is to be outside.

I've decided to take a different approach starting today.  I've already logged my food. Planned ahead. Usually I log as I go and find myself hungry at the end of the day. I'm hoping sticking to the plan helps.

This house is full of good nutritious and convenient foods.

Now..let's get my brain to agree to eat it. And only it.

I had my best stepping day yesterday and didn't hit 7000 steps including 45 minutes on a treadmill.

No giving up but will be very happy when weather allows outside walking again!

Cheers everybody

I tried your idea.. I have a mini trampoline too!  Just a few minutes or rather a few songs.. got me to surpass 10K steps!  That's an additional 3K from where I was before I got on the trampoline!

Hi everyone. Good morning.

I now want a mini trampoline. Have been frustrated by my small house and lack of "steps", really poorly cleared roads that are a death trap and a broken car keeping me from getting to the gym.

And somebody says mini trampoline and I think yes! I have room for one of those 🙂

this is my third week and I lost 2.5 lbs the first weigh in on a monday, stayed the same the second week but this morning I was heartened when I put on a shirt that hung a little looser and the mirror says something has changed. I won't weigh until Monday again..

And of course something has changed.  I have taken to entering all my food in advance...allowing myself the option to swap if necessary where appropriate but otherwise planning ahead instead of recording.

I have a trip planned this upcoming weekend and it will involve lots of walking. I will be visiting horses and ponies and wearing my barn boots. Nothing like barn work for getting the blood pumping.

Glad to be on this mission. Love my fit bit.

Add me as a friend if you like.

Cheers

Carlie

Awesome keep up the good work!

I did about 3K steps on mini trampoline this morning.

I agree with the benefit of entering food in advance!  I tried that the other day and it was really beneficial.

Hi, I am 49 and turning 50 this summer. I also would like to lose 30 pounds by my birthday. It would be great to celebrate as a strong, healthy 50 year old. I would love some friends for motivation and support too. (I also want to get my A1C under control! )
