looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

I find since I upped my protein, I am less hungry and the urge to eat at nice, is no longer there. Weird to think that just by increasing it. It helps. But I remember years ago being on Atkins diet, which is a lot of protein, I was never hungry . I still have not lost weight yet , but feel body reshaping. But I have been dieting for about a year, lost 30, then stopped losing and I hope by having the Fitbit, I can start losing again. I hope I can continue exercising, having issues with back but seeing chiropractor , tonight so hoping I do not get set back a little.

Well I did a 45 minute walk at the gym on the tread mill and did some free weights.

I'm so weak compared to where I was before but am working on a weight training plan.  I used to lift heavy and found it great for energy and strength and energy.

It doesn't translate into a lot of steps though...have to "step" it up!

no matter that it doesn't count as a lot of steps, but you can still record weights when you do them and it counts as very active minutes -- and also you know you are doing it!!!!!

i used to lift weights religiously and yes i am so much weaker then i used to be -- i never realized how strong i was before!!!!!

@Apachehorse I've been using a 40/40/20 ratio for protein, carbohydrates and fat (flax oil)  It seems to be working and I will tweak this in about two weeks as per my results.  Including more protein in our diets is generally a good rule of thumb as it feeds our muscles.  North American diets are generally high in carbs.

I am with you. I'm turning 50 in June and I would love to lose 30 pounds so I can say 50 and fabulous. We can do this with each other help. I think we should support each other. I love sweets and can't do this alone. I treat myself when I do good. When I have a bad day I treat myself huh!!!!

That reminds me of the Zone diet. I think that was 40/30/20. Something like that

It is evening..and this is where I need you ladies!

I am trying not to eat after 7pm. I am waiting for my husband to return with water so I can make a big pot of herbal tea.  I have had all my water for the day, am under calorie target by 93 cals and I feel very full. Anything I eat now will be just because..not hunger.

Who else is on a no eating in the evening sort of program?

I am almost up to 5000 steps. How much walking do I have to do to  make it to 10,000. I walked on the tread mill for 50 minutes today, did another 20 minutes of weights, have barely sat down all day. Hitting 10,000 is very difficult to do. I had a day where I barely sat down and just went over 7000.

Running a bath to wash the workout off me.  Back later.

Carlie,

I usually have to walk over an hour at a fast pace to get my 10,000 steps per day, but I tend to break it up. I try to get 3-3500 steps in at work during the day and then walk at home. My husband and I walk a 50 step loop in our house for a half hour at a time at a quick pace. I have also found that I can get nearly 500 steps in during the commercial breaks during my limited TV viewing time. You know how many commercial breaks there are in an hour? Those steps can add up quickly.

When I struggle with trying NOT to eat at night, I walk a loop or two, go brush my teeth, or go down the basement to begin a load of laundry. If I still want to eat after fifteen minutes, I eat a serving fruit or veggies, so no guilt is involved.

You can build an evening snack into your food plan by walking a little more in the evening. The more you exercise the more calories you burn; thus the more you can eat guilt free. Of course, when I want to eat, I also do quite a bit of self-talk and praise myself for not always giving in to temptation.

Good luck.

Cindy

If I walk at 3 miles per hour it takes me about 1 1/2 hours to make the 10000 steps. I do it on a treadmill, that is how I know how fast I am going. Hope this helps. Keep up the stepping and keep down the calories and you will get results!!Yooper Annie

If I treat myself, I just make myself go on the treadmill to counteract the amount of extra calories I consumed.

Thank you! I am going to do a bunch of laundry..I suppose the up and down the steps will help 🙂

I have not eaten anything.

Making sleepy time tea now. Sleep makes a huge difference to my success.

I did not go to the gym yesterday due to absolute exhaustion.

Cheers.

sounds great -- don't' watch commercials so will have to find a way to incorporate walking while watching netflix -- but breaking it up would be easier

well if you cut out sweets maybe for even one week at first you might find it easier to not give them up totally but cut down on them -- i don't believe in giving up foods because then you set yourself up for failure -- that is why i know i cannot totally try to change my eating habits just to lose weight because if i go back to the norm it will just come back -- so maybe that is why my start is so slow -- don't have a scale that works right now either so not sure if i have lost anything yet, but i got a button closed on my jeans i couldn't before -- my goal before work starts in may is to get into my skinnier jeans (that is one size down from where i am now) they are not skinny in any way, but a step in the right direction

Hi!  I just got my Surge a week ago.....I am 56 & trying to lose the last 20 pounds.  I have been obese all my life & 7 years ago decided to lose the weight.  I have lost 97 pounds but really need to lose the last 20 which is all located in my tummy below the belly button.  My problem is sleep!!!!!   Hot flashes wake me up multiple times per night (which the surge confirmed in the sleep report)- I am currently taking BHRT, and the overall symptoms are better, just not the nightly hot flashes/sweats!  I have tried every supplement, herbs, yoga, soothing music, etc until I am ready to scream!  All I want is a good nights sleep- is this too much to ask???  Thanks for listening to my rant!

Hi Grumpy

The HRT is helping. Try not to let light into your eyes when you wake with night sweats. Keep your self calm, wipe your brow and try not to arouse yourself. We all go through the pause so staying calm will help you get back to sleep. Melatonin works for some folks.

Know that it doesn't last forever.
