Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

Hi @BarbHELLO
Are you eating mostly nutritious healthy foods? Our hunger / satisfied signals can be out of order if the chosen foods to eat are for example cookies, junk foods.. our bodies still being possible hungry afterwards since these foods are designed to want more from, even if not really needing.
It's possible also to have eaten to less over time, while overestimated food intake (eaten less than logged if keeping track of food intake).. your body feeling starving and asking more since sensing danger. Even when logging food, your body knows better than the plan how much has been eaten over time / which nutritients it got, or which it needs more from.. (asking for more by being more hungry).
Don't be afraid, some times eating less, other days can feel like having a feast, though when trying to eat only when being hungry again, trust your body to balance it out. It guides where it wants to be..
It can be possible to eat out of habit, it's a certain time of the day when always eating food, your body being hungry cause it expects to get food a certain time (but actual it can be false hunger).. (when feeling comfortably satisfied, noticing getting stuffed in case of eating something out of habit), it may be out of habit instead.
In case of eating always something for example in the evening in front of the television, while knowing having eated a epic meal recently, it may not be real hunger yet, but a habit cause of doing every day..

Thank you for responding so quickly Mystique!
No, I'm not eating right. Actually my basic meals are the same, correct eatting but there are all the parties and people bringing left over goodies to work and passing them out or leaving them in the break room! Plus at church, the after church goodie table is over filled with things I shouldn't be eatting! I just have to close my eyes and walk by the treats because, they are left where I have to go.
My dog seems to be my only advacate right now. She is making sure that I get my (and her) exercise. It's always dark now when I'm out walking the dog.
Today we have a vendor treating us to lunch, so I will be VERY careful and order a salad without dressing on it!
I do eat my meals out of habit and I don't have any treats in my house. Actually my daughter is the candy cane queen but I make her keep them in her room where I don't see them. I NEVER go in there! She is thin.
Thank you for helping Mystique. Besides what you suggested I'm going to try to think of the treats as the poisons that they actually are! My problem now is just the holiday treats and the darkness of the winter and it isn't even winter yet! Dec 21 and then the days start getting longer!

The holidays are hard! I've learned, over time, that I'm much better off if I lay off sugary treats of any kind (homemade or otherwise); once I get back to tasting these babies, I just keep going. I can't even enjoy that first brownie without thinking of the next one, and the next. Thus, I better not have the first one. The other thought I use is "I already know what that tastes like." I've eaten every type of cookie, cake, pastry on the planet -- and most of them are definitely NOT worth it. If I ever see a whole pie baked into a cake (and, yes, I've seen this on Facebook), it will have to be coated in actual gold leaf before I'd eat it! There are a lot of good tips here; hope some of them hit home with you...

Hi, I turn 50 on December 30, 2016. I need to lose about 35lbs before then. I'd be happy to be a Fitbit pal. 🙂

Hello! I am 55 (shhhh!) and just recently noticed that somehow I have had extra weight creep up on me. I've had a lifestyle change so that I am sure led to it. Anyway -- I have only have the Flex Fitbit since Christmas day but I love it. I am a goal oriented person and this is helping me be accountable. I'd love to have a FitBit Friend to do challenges and such with. Not sure how well its going to go after the New Year and life gets back into full swing but for right now I am trying to get into the habit of 10,000 steps per day (so far I've master only a little over 8,000....grrrrr). So ,, Fitbit Friend me!

My goal is to go down by 17 pounds by adding more activity and less calories. My first resolve is to atleast reduce 300 calories per day, while maintaining a balanced enough diet, and by adding 5000 steps a day. Beginning Monday, I will walk from train station to work (20 minutes). Looking to keep myself accountable to meet my goal consistently.

Sounds like a reasonable and highly doable plan! Good luck...

Here at the end of 2015 (only an hour and 15 minutes left where I am), I just want to say how thankful I am for my Fitbit. I strapped it on my wrist back on June 20 of this year and I vowed to lose 50 lbs before the end of the year.
And. . .
I did it. 🙂
I also joined Nerd Fitness (an online program) at the same time, and they emphasize diet over exercise ("Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym."), but by following a paleo-ish diet, by cutting my calories *at least* in half, and by hitting (and exceeding) my 10K step goal most days of the week, I lost 50 lbs in 6 months.
I have another 40 lbs to go, but now I know exactly how to do it. It might not happen as fast as the first 50 (the more you lose, the harder it is to lose), but that's OK. I am stronger and healthier than I have been in *years*. [FedEx dropped off a box containing 40 lbs of canned cat food yesterday. The driver asked if I needed help getting it into the house. Um, nope. I've been working on strength training for the past few months, so I can definitely lift the heavy box all on my own.]
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that even though our metabolism slows down as we age, it's still do-able!

Happy New Year Pennalynn! Thanks so much for the inspiring message! I just turned 49 2 days ago and really need to lose at least 30lbs...before I turn 50! 11 years ago, I was under 110lbs (I'm only 5'0) yikes, what did I do to myself? I have a very active job, so the problem is with my eating. I have to get that under control this year. My Christmas present to myself was a Fitbit Charge HR. I LOVE it!
Have a great year Pennalynn! Would love to stay in touch if you are up for that?

Your goal sounds doable if you have a daily plan that you will commit yourself to. Fitbit has been a good tool to make it transparent for me where i need to pay attention to make my plan work. Like many others, suppertime, night time grazing has been the most challenging aspect I need to pay attention to. What do you anticipate to be your challenge, Pooker11?

Hello all, would love some friends to motivate and be motivated by. I've been fine weight-wise for years but have noticed since I started with menopausal symptoms, its crept up (all by itself, nothing to do with my love of cheese and crisps). I need to shift 10lbs by end March.
Will love joining in the challenges

Very inspiring Pennalynn and thanks! Paleo-ish, that involves not eating bread, right? I went on a gluten-free, wheat-free diet last year and lost about 14 lbs which was great. I started eating bread again and it snowballed, now basically back where I started. I intend to go back on it and really take care with my eating and up my walking again.
My son gave me a Fitbit Flex for Christmas and it was such a surprise, I love it!
