One Availability and Alternatives

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Though Fitbit One is a popular product, as we introduce new products, we occasionally make changes to our product line to keep you on track with the most up-to-date health and fitness tracking tools.

As a result, we no longer sell the One. We recommend considering the other discreet options we offer- Fitbit Zip, if you prefer a clip-based tracker or Fitbit Flex 2 if you prefer a slim, wrist-based tracker. Or, take our quiz on http://www.fitbit.com/compare to see which device meets your needs best.

Please note that we will continue to support the One and, if necessary, provide replacements for devices in warranty.

We do know there are many fans of the One who would like to discuss alternatives and have created this thread for discussion and merged a few posts together. Please keep in mind Community Guidelines when posting.

At this time, feedback has been shared on the One status and there are no plans to bring this particular tracker back at this time, we will not be able to comment further.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope we can continue to provide you with Fitbit trackers you love and help you reach your goals.

Why why why have they discontinued.  My Zip eats batteries like a kid eats candies.  Only lasts about a week So thought I would  get a one only to find they have been discontinued.  A wrist one is not a option due to the type of work I do.  Give me some ideas or do I move to a different brand.  ?????

Thanks! Unfortunately, I don’t do much sleepwalking, and the sleep feature of the One is a key for me.

Hello Legolady,

Maybe the Footpod company would be more interested in putting out a model with sleep tracking  than Fitbit is in reintroducing the One!!

I've got 26 on my list so far.... I want 100!  I will send (another) letter to Fitbit and include the list.

  1.  Our Veteran population with hand injuries,
  2.  The amputee community.
  3.  the nursing home residents, etc--they just cannot wear a wristband unit.
  4.  Ballroom Dancers (arms are very still)
  5.  Bike riders (still arms)
  6.  Mothers pushing baby carriage (still arms)
  7.  Shoppers pushing cart of merchandise. (still arms)
  8.  Students carrying books.(still arms)
  9. Pushing a wheelchair (still arms)
  10. Using a walker (still arms)
  11. Playing soccer(or other sports) where a watch or any jewellery is forbidden.
  12.  Formal or semi-formal occasion.
  13. Plain don't want a wrist based activity tracker
  14. Use more superior 3rd party products for some of the 'additional' functionality their wrist based trackers offer - for example I would never use their stuff to measure my HR while working out - Polar is a far more superior product in this market space and I trust their products more/I have more loyalty to that brand than I do to FitBit
  15. Discretion - not everyone wants to bore everyone rigid with their step count - some people will just quietly get on with it and just do it for their own purposes
  16.  People with skin allergies.  A friend just told me he developed a rash from wearing the charge hr after having it for several years.
  17.  All hospital people that interact with patients.
  18.  Barn workers, riders, field workers (around animals and equipment).
  19.  Factory Workers
  20.  People with allergies
  21.  Retail workers - folding clothes, cashiering, stocking shelves - adds steps
  22.  Metal workers, farriers, jewelers, metal fabrication of any type
  23.  Manual labor jobs of any kind. Physical dirt, bacteria (hospital nosocomial

infections).

24.  People whose wrists are too small to wear any of their produc

25.  People concerned about accuracy of the step count.

25.  People that mow their lawn with a push mower. (still arms)

@Deeinsk  Unfortunately simply switching to another brand isn't really an option, as there is NOTHING like the ONE out there by any company right now.

I have worn a One for years, continuing to wear it even as I did start wearing a Charge (I wanted the heart rate feedback enough to wear something on my wrist, better than a chest strap!). When my boys upgraded me to the Versa for Mother's Day, I've experimented with the Charge2 worn in a clip. While there isn't one made specifically for the Charge2 (there are 3rd party clips for the Fitbit Alta, which is similar to the One, but no "floors" feature), the GarminVivofit3 clip is a really close fit... admittedly a bit hard to get it in, but once in, it is very similar to the One. Slightly larger, but still wearable on my bra or pocket. Tracks sleep and stairs, has the illuminated display and all stats visible on the device, timer, etc. You can turn off the heart rate feature (to conserve battery).  The step count is coming in a bit high (I've been comparing it to my One, which I'm still wearing too), unlike when I wore it on my wrist, then it was always low.

The Charge2's original price point is higher than the One, but it's been on sale quite a bit for $119, so not much more. You can get a set of clips, three for around $20. Hopefully someone might make a clip specifically for the Charge2 (and the Blaze, and all the other wrist devices, because even if people are okay wearing something on their wrist, there are always a few times they can't and would like a clip option ... like my boys playing basketball!)

The Charge2 in a clip seems closest to the One, even if it wasn't intended to be worn that way.

How does the sleep function for the Vivofit 3 compare to the sleep function

I am looking into the Misfit Shine. You can wear it as a clip on, on the
wrist or as a pendant and it syncs with my fitness pal.

Nothing else seems to be as good as the one😔😠

Hello jhf991,

Can you add your reason to the list? There are 26 reasons now and she wants 100.

Regarding sleep tracking of various devices ... the Alta or Charge2 would be the most similar in tracking to the One (same type of data review, Alta/Charge2 auto-track sleep, so you don't have to start/stop timer, but can adjust if needed).

The GarminVivofit3 also autotracks sleep. It gives you "deep sleep/light sleep/awake" in hours/minutes and does provide a graph that is a bit similar to the Fitbit line graph as well as a circle graph.  I've found it's pretty off, determined by being out of bed (so if you are laying in bed reading or watching tv, that's all counted as sleep. At times, it recorded my "to sleep" time even before I went to bed and was still walking around. Times can be manually adjusted afterward. The Alta/Charge also struggle a bit here when clipped to the waist for sleep, so it may be more where I'm wearing it (clipped) and would be better wrist worn.

Wearing the Versa on my wrist, and the Motiv ring on my finger, they seem much more sensitive to movement, and get my "to sleep, awake" times very accurately!

The Fitbit's with a HR function  show more data (rem, light, deep, awake) than the One, if people who weren't willing to wear a wrist device during the day were okay with wearing it on the wrist for sleep tracking. Do you One wearers switch to the wrist pocket for your One for sleep? I have never done that ... I just clip it to my jammies.

For any device (I see @JEH1 asked about the Misfit shine sleep) you can just Google it, and there you can find images showing the different graphs and basic sleep tracking functions, and reviews. I also like to track sleep with an app for my phone ... Sleep Cycle is the one I like best. You manually start it, and it's set as your alarm. Just sleep with your phone next to your bed (on the nightstand, plugged in to keep power up). It tracks (and records) snoring too ...

Just some tidbits for those who like to track sleep and want to know different options ...

That appears to be true, so that is why I am looking at the Misfit Shine.
It does have the clip on option and syncs with MyFitnessPal. These are the
2 most important attributes for me.

Unfortunately I don't think the Misfit Shine would appeal to many of the users as a One replacement ... it is similar to the FitbitFlex2 (which does have a 3rd party clip available), with no display and no stairs. Reading the past comments, those are imperative features to most.

There is just nothing like the ONE out there 😞

Nothing is as useful for me as the one. Im just praying it lasts a lot
longer. I never used the wrist pocket for sleeping. I have it Velcro d to
the inside of its clip, as insurance from it falling out, besides my home
made "leash". I just clip it to PJ's and then to whatever I'm wearing.

I'm a pianist and do not wear anything on my wrists. Also, when not playing piano, I only wear my Rolex. Come on, FitBit: Bring back the One.

Alternative - one of two or more possibilities.

Although it is not exactly like the One, in my opinion the best alternative that is designed as a clip on is the Garmin Vivofit 3. Does everything that the One does except stairs.

Running side by side with the One, differences are very little and seems to be getting closer as it is used.

I have actually come to like that it is not rechargeable, have had several months and battery is still good.

If you are looking for an alternative that does everything that the One does, it does not exist.

There is only one-One, and it does not look like Fitbit is even remotely interested in our comments, bringing back or replacing the One.

You can check out my other posts for more information on the Vivofit 3.

As always, good luck to all of us that love our One. (I now love my Vivofit 3)

Sorry, SPL-BR, but I really need the incentive of the stair count.  I severely hurt my back 2 years ago, and the One's counting of stairs encouraged me to get the exercises in when the pain wanted to make me stop.  Luckily, my back is better, fewer and fewer days of pain, but I really like seeing my goals (including stairs) met every day.  I will be very sad when, not if, I have to give up FitBit devices.  The problem with the Vivfit 3, besides not counting stairs, is that it's Garmin's older model and has been replaced by the 4 which doesn't have a clip.  It's almost like a conspiracy to keep all of us unfit and lazy.

Best Answer

I've been playing with the GarminVivofit3 too, but haven't been as pleased with it as @SPL-BR. I like to get stats on individual activities, and while the device obviously counts steps (to go toward the daily total) it does not save them when you sync (it gives time, calorie burn and miles, but I find miles to be very inaccurate, I like steps).  I have to time my workout, and then look at the step count before I turn the timer off and write it down manually to keep the step number.

I've also found the burn estimates to be so low, like half of Fitbit estimates(&machine readouts and basic accepted burns, like 100 calories per mile as a general rule). On one hand, I guess underestimating is better than overestimating (especially if you are eating based on burn), but it's also very discouraging! Just 80 calories for a hard 20min elliptical workout? 250 calories for an hour of Zumba? 260 calories for a 3.5 mile walk? It seems to only reward running workouts ... and those calorie burns come in higher than Fitbit/machine numbers.

I also dislike the "backlit" display, which is not the same as the One's illuminated display. I really have a hard time reading it myself.

@chkufeldt ... have you considered the Charge2? It's about the same size as the Garmin, and with a little oomph can fit into the clip made for it. I've been experimenting with it in a clip (I was wearing it on my wrist, but my boys upgraded me to the Versa, and as I'd been playing with the Garmin, I had a couple extra clips around). It is very similar to the One with the step count, timer, illuminated display, and the all-important stairs. You have the option to turn off the heart rate tracking (saves battery). It's cost is more than the One was ... but a lot less than people are paying for the One on ebay! I have found the step count/burn to be coming in a bit high.

I still hope Fitbit or a 3rd party makes clip options for every device they have. Even people perfectly happy with wrist devices have those times when they can't have something on their wrist and would still like to get their steps counted.

Today is a milepost day. Since I posted my first reply to this issue, my inbox has now received 1000 replies to the "One Availability and Alternatives" issue. I've personally received 78 "thumbs up."  I notice too, that Fitbit's count is over 1100 and growing daily. It's quite interesting the obvious demand for a non-wrist tracker that includes elevation and all the other features of One for all the reasons mentioned by former users. Too bad Fitbit is so stone deaf to it's customers desire by sticking to it's decision to not revive production of the One.
