Add a new exercise to my tracker

Sorry if anyone feels my post is not a fit for this forum however, the customer service rep told me this was the best way to get the attention of the developers.

Is it possible to add “Drums” or “Drumming” to the selection of exercises? I get quite a workout playing my drums and I wear my Fitbit. The device recognizes this time as bicycling” or “running”. I have to change it to “Driving” in order to get a true step count. I think this a reasonable request since Golf is an option...

I play golf too...;)

Thanks for your consideration.

Accepted Solutions

Add Workout mode to the list of exercises to your device. Then go to the computer dashboard and set up a custom exercise for drumming. When it syncs you can rename it to drumming

Custom Exercise is at the bottom of the Exercise tab

There are just to many exercises to add to keep all happy so this is a perfect workaround. I use it all the time

Here is a link to the Feature Suggestions Board just for such suggestions where it is monitored by engineers/designers.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I see that this was accepted as a solution.  Sorry for being dense, but I can't follow your instructions.

1.  I don't know how to find "Add Workout mode".  Is this on the fitbit itself or the app?  In either case, I can't find how to do this.

2.  Where is the "computer dashboard"?  I have a dashboard on my fitbit app on my iPhone.  Other than that, I can't find a dashboard?

3.  Once I find a dashbaord, I don't know how to set up a custom exercise.  I don't see a way to do this.

4.  You say "Custom Exercise is at the bottom of the Exercise tab".  I have no tabs period.

Could you please explain step by step.

Thank you!

Hi, you have to log in from a desktop or laptop....at least I had to.

Thanks, but that doesn't answer any of my questions.  I'm logged in.  None of those options show up.

My bad, here is the path:

Login to the dashboard from a desktop/laptop, then, Recent Exercise on the right side of the let your mouse hoover a tile till a drop-down menu appears below the bottom tile > click See More > Activities, lower rt corner > Create Custom Activity> add your custom activity when it appears in your list, sync your fitbit app on your smart-device.

After it syncs, click on the activity icon on your smart device > search activities, it should appear. You’re in business.

Don’t forget to sign out of your desktop/laptop.

cheers!

Thank you again for your update!  I followed all your steps & was able to create a new exercise that shows up on my computer dashboard.  Also, on the app itself, I can see stretching (the "new exercise").

However, something still isn't right on my Charge 2 Fitbit.  The stretching exercise doesn't appear.  i.e. when I press the button on the side 2 times, I get to the exercises & I can change them by tapping on the watch face.

Tapping changes from Elliptical, Workout, Weights, Tennis, Bike, to Interval Workout.  On each of those exercises, I can press & hold the side button to start timing the exercise & then press it again to stop timing.  However, stretching doesn't appear, so I can't use Fitbit to time how long I've been stretching.  I'm trying to add stretching to the list on Fitbit itself.

There are  I believe 20 exercise types you make put on your "Exercise Shortcuts".  You cannot add any others to that.  Stretching is not one of those 20; yoga is perhaps closest.

Here is everything about all this:

How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

Thank you for your reply.  However, I went through every link on that page...how to edit, delete, change stats, etc.  I could not find any instructions on adding an exercise to Fitbit.  I could not find Yoga.  Could you please tell me which link gives that instruction?

Thank you,

How do I change or reorder the exercises in the Exercise app?

Thank you, JohnnyRow!  It was hidden.

"How to change or reorder the exercises...?" was inside the "How do I track my workouts...".  And there were "How do I customize exercise settings in the Exercise app?", "How do I change or delete exercise data in the Fitbit app?", which seemed like a more logical place to look.

Even the link you gave me, when I got to changing exercises, left out a step.  Tapping the "Account" icon doesn't give you an option to see "Exercise Shortcuts".  It takes another step.

In any event, thank you & everyone for helping me!  I appreciate it!

@SunsetRunner   Glad you got it set.

Just for future reference, after "tap the Account icon" where it says ">  your device image"

that means after you do that 1st step, then from the next screen,  tap the device image

though I realize it's not always obvious.

Thanks again @JohnnyRow .  I can see that now.  I think after trying so many different options & searches, I wasn't thinking clearly.  Of course, the "> your device image" refers, in my case, to Charge 2.  In any event, thank you so much for your time & patience!

Although it's been so long that I can't recall each step, they are laid out here:

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1935/?q=exercise&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1#shortcut...

Just choose your device from a dropdown & follow the steps.
