Auto Detect Exercise not working

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.
For a few days now aito detect of exercise is not working, so it's not logging it as exercise in the app - active minutes register, but not the activity. Anyone else having this problem?

It was working until a couple of days ago. I find it irritating that it won't register (even though I know full well I've done the exercise!)

It's nice to see you around the Community @Missfab76, hope you're doing great! Smiley Very Happy I'd recommend doing the following:

  • Log out of your Fitbit App
  • Force quit the App
  • Restart your Charge 2
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit App

Thank you. I tried all this and it still doesn't work. When I think about it it started when the firmware was updated last week.
I went for a 1.5 hour walk over the weekend and all I got from auto detect was a 20 minute crosstrain(!!?). I rely a lot on auto detect because I don't always remember to track my walks. Frustrating!

Yes same with me very frustrating

Thanks for keeping me posted @Lp11 @Missfab76! One last thing, I'd suggest the following (even if most of the steps have been done already):

  • Log into your Fitbit App
  • Select "Forget this device"
  • Force quit the App
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit App
  • Set up the trackers as a new devices

Here are the steps:

  • On the Fitbit app for iOS dashboard, tap the Account tab
  • Tap Set Up a Device
  • Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue

Hopefully that does the trick!

I am having the same problem.  Just upgraded from the Charge HR to Charge 2, I do not own a smart phone so just using PC with windows 7.  After syncing twice it still just had the activity from a few days ago listed.  It added the activity after I manually logged it in but I really didn't want to do that everyday after a workout.  It also said my active minutes were only 15 and I walked for over an hour.  Said I did 3 flights of stairs when I did none besides stepping up on the treadmill.  On the Charge HR if the button was held in the fitbit started tracking exercise, the Charge 2 doesn't seem to have any such feature.

Yes I agree I do not want to manually input since I sometimes forget to turn off. My active minutes was way off as well

Indypam you can use the Fitbit to track your exercise - push the button until you get to the exercise list and tap down to the type of workout. You can change what exercises are on you list.
Having said that I'm really not happy overall with my Charge 2 - when I do track my walk as opposed to letting it auto detect it has given me distance variations of about 1km when I know exactly how far I'm going.

Thank you for the answer. While waiting with my husband at the doctors office I played with the thing and found that out. Wouldn't instructions be better than just hunting around.

@Indypam, have you looked at the on-line manual/instructions? From the computer dashboard, click on the Setting Gear Icon, and select Help. From the window that opens, select the Charge 2 to got to the instructions for that model, and then select the category you are interested in learning about. Lots of help there.

What a great idea @Indypam, scroll to the bottom of this page and tap on the word "Help". This will take you to Fitbit's Help Site, from there you will want to tap on the pretty picture of your tracker. You then will find your at Fitbits online interactive guide to the Charge 2,

One of the first things you will notice is a downloadable version of the Charge 2 user manual, followed by the Charge 2 FAQ, both are very interesting and worth the read.

Below the common questions there are catagories, so say if your interested in Sleep, then by tapping on Sleep you will find a lot of sleep info. Or you might want to type a word into the help search bar.

Now if we go back to the bottom of the page,, along with the link to the Fitbit help site, there will also be a link to Fitbits YouTube Channel where a user may find several help videos.

This should give plenty to read next time your waiting in the doctors office, and you soon will be helping others with your vast knowledge of the Fitbit Line.

Here is a screen shot of where the two links will be found.

I used my new fitbit today, it has recorded the minutes, calories, heart rate, steps but not logged the actual exercise.  My fitbit Charge always did this without fail.  Feel very disappointed.

Hello @ManjitR, what type of exercise she you doing, and does it go long enough for the minimum time in your settings?

For now you could try a restart of the tracker. Http://help.fitbit.com/?q=,restart

Hi, I went on the treadmill, cross trainer and master stepper. Both the treadmill and cross trainer were for 20 mins each.

Today I have used the manual setting on the watch and that has detected my workout on the mobile phone app. I will try to disconnect the Fitbit as per your instructions.

Thank you

I'm not sure about the cross trainer but for the treadmill, some find records as an Elyptical. This makes sense since the arms move back and forth, but the body does not move forward in space.

Good morning,

I have forced closure of apps on my laptop and phone and disconnected my Charge 2 and re connected after turning off and on Bluetooth. I then went for a jog which the tracker picked up automatically. So hopefully today when I go to the gym it should work.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Hi, I am having the same problem since I updated in July/August. My Charge HR2 is not automatically recognizing my walks and it did before. I also tried these steps. I believe the firmware update did something. Please fix as Isynch with my Weight Watcher app
