Welcome to the Fitbit Community @mark_wood! It's great to have you here!
Allow me to help,in this case the first step to do is the restart if it doesn't work you can also try changing your clock display.
Hope it helps, let me know how it goes!

Same problem, black bar, half white/half black, tried restarting, updating, etc. will not work. Also, when trying to sync, an exclamation point icon pops up in the middle of the bar. Any suggestions?

Hi @mpmaster and @mark_wood , that is usually an indication that your Fitbit is stuck in the middle of an update. If you are trying to update using your phone or tablet, please try updating using your computer, if possible. That is often more straightforward. It was a problem with my phone and not the fitbit. I just had to restart my phone and allow it to finish the update then it worked.

I too am getting the half white/half black bar on the screen of my HR. It will not turn on or do anything.
Where should I start?

Hey there @snewe66! Welcome aboard! Start doing the restart 2 or 3 times in a row find the instructions below.
1. Plug your charging cable into the USB port and insert the other end into the port on the back of your Charge HR. Your tracker will begin charging.
2. Press and hold the button for 10 to 12 seconds until you see the Fitbit icon and a version number (e.g. "V88").
3. Let go of the button.
4. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.
Your Charge HR is now restarted and should work normally, keep me posted .

I'm in the exact same situation as Karen. I tried the restart multiple times, and it did nothing. Still just half-filled bar. This is frustrating. What is the problem/solution?

Hi, I have the same problem on my fitbit HR. Block line half white. I have tried the plug in to charge, hold button to reset, and unplug multiple times. I restarted my phone to see if the syncing or downloading was the problem and no luck. Any other suggestions? Or is my precious fitbit a goner?! I hope not.

I am having the exact same issue. I have tried to restart several times and nothing happens. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled and the line remains. Has anyone actually been able to get past this issue? I have also checked for updates on my computer and it says each time it is up to date.

Its a goner. If your fitbit is still under warranty you can call the customer care and get a replacement. If not call them anyways and explain to them the issue you have. They will give you a discount on a new one (this is what i got)
