Calorie count inaccurate

ANSWERED

08 April, 2025

The last time my Fitbit recorded my calorie burn correctly was on March 27, 2025. Since then, it has been seriously under recording the numbers. Today, for example, I have only burned 82 calories and it is nearly 11:30am. I should have burned at least 600, even if I am inactive.

i have tried to do everything possible to get my Fitbit working properly again including: reinstalling the app, checking for updates, force stop and watching Fitbit tutorials. No luck. I moved to Google around the end of March. Could this have impacted the calorie count?

I’m hoping there is a simple fix for this and one of the members of this forum can assist.
Thanks

Check your fitbit weight.

Hi @EB_2025 and warm welcome to the forums.

I appreciate your message, and I'm sorry to hear about the calorie's inaccuracy of your Fitbit device.
As @JohnnyRow explained (always appreciated all the support given) and in addition to what was advised, please verify your weight but also your height in the Fitbit app.

Fitbit devices combine your basal metabolic rate (BMR)—the rate at which you burn calories at rest to maintain vital body functions (including breathing, blood circulation, and heartbeat)—and your activity data to estimate your calories burned. If your device tracks heart rate, your heart-rate data is also included, especially to estimate calories burned during exercise. The number you see on your Fitbit device is your total calories burned for the day.

Your BMR is based on the physical data you entered in to your Fitbit account (height, weight, sex, and age) and accounts for at least half the calories you burn in a day. Because your body burns calories even if you’re asleep or not moving, you see calories burned on your device when you wake up and will notice this number increase throughout the day.

In order to verify and/or edit this, please check the steps shown here : How do I change my birthdate, sex, height, or weight?

Thank you MarioSFitbit for the detailed information you have provided. I vaguely recall changing my height and weight data which would have prevented the calories from recording correctly. I have reset my height and weight and noticed the calorie count immediately jumped to where it should be.

To that end, I take back what I said about “doing everything possible to fix this issue”. Clearly, I didn’t. At least I was correct in hoping there was a simple solution- there was!

Thanks to you too Johnny Row for your suggestion.
