Charge 2 Incompatibility with Samsung Galaxy A40

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have been given a lovely shiny new Samsung Galaxy A40, a popular mid-range phone, to replace my old Samsung which had broken. I am dismayed that my Charge 2 is incompatible with it. It can take all day to sync, and more often than not, never syncs. And the Charge 2 will not pair with it at all. Annoyingly, I cannot sync with my computer either because I use Linux, which again something else Fitbit does not support, and furthermore does not intend to support. Please Fitbit, at least sort the Samsung Galaxy 40 incompatibility issue. It is a relatively simple process for such a large dedicated support team to do and I cannot understand why it has not happened. Please explain why it is proving so difficult to support devices. The incompatibility issue is so dreadful that I was unable to perform the recent firmware update. For the time being I borrow my teenage son's phone, who does not have a Fitbit, to sync my data and eventually to do the recent firmware update (which did not fix the incompatibility problem as I had hoped it would). However, he understandably does not want me to use his phone. Unless things improve I will not be purchasing any more Fitbit devices when my Charge 2 needs replacing. Instead I will be buying a cheaper version from a competitor, which is just as reliable, has the same functions, is a lot cheaper and does not have Fitbit's compatibility issues.

@PaulaTaylor, a warm welcome to our Community! Sorry for the delay in my reply.

Let me help you with your Charge 2 not syncing with your phone. As you mentioned your phone doesn't show as compatible but that doesn’t mean it won’t work it just means that it hasn’t been tested by our team. You can try the following:

  • Go to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there.
  • Restart your phone and restart your device
  • Also, if you are using an Android device, check that your app has the necessary permissions (settings > apps > Fitbit > permissions) and make sure bluetooth and location services (GPS) are on.
  • You can find additional suggestions here.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for replying. I tried all of your suggestions before posting my comment, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing the Bluetooth app cache, etc. Everything suggested in Fitbits help suggestions.

This helped. Fitbit support could not help me.  I came up with this myself

1. Unpair your Samsung A40 and Fitbit Charge 2

1. Install Fitbit to your PC

2. Pair your Fitbit Charge 2 and your PC

3. Update the latest software version to your Fitbit Charge 2

4. Pair your Samsung A40 and your Fitbit Charge 2

I dont understand why the old phone has not provided the latest software update

Thanks for the suggestion Hannelore2. I use free open source software (Linux) on my PC. Yep, you've guessed it, Fitbit isn't compatible with that either, and they have no intention of making it compatible. Thank you for your suggestion though, and taking the time to respond. Very kind. Others on here will find it helpful which is great 👍

I bought my A40 on Friday, and like others here I can't get it to pair with my Charge 2. Nothing on this page has helped me fix the problem. I am rather dismayed that this has been a known issue for months and it still hasn't been fixed.

If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate hearing them!  Thanks in advance.

Install Fitbit on your computer from Google Play, sign in and update Charge 2.

I need to do this at least 2 times a week, always when the Samsung A40
stops working. (check that Charge2 version is 22.22.58).
