Can a moderator please assist? Will there be a fix for the over counting any time soon? I just bought my mum a Charge 3 and I decided to try it out, and it counts steps even when I am in bed watching TV. I would hate to return this as I think this would be great with the fix of this bug, as with this huge over counting doesn't serve its main purpose. I know there were some suggestions to set it to the dominant hand and wear it on the non dominant ... but that would still not mean accuracy just cheating the bug a bit so it counts less, but still not accurate. Please advise. Thank you

Just got my charger 3 for mother’s day and is over counting and after seen all the reviews I’m returning it tomorrow I just wanted an accurate way to record my steps and it seems that you have no idea how to make it happen very disappointed

I just bought my Charge 3 without doing this background research unfortunately and have the same problem. The technical team @ Fitbit needs to fix this with a firmware update. I’m shocked that this issue has been open for so long and not fixed yet. If you can’t fix it, a responsible company would just stop shipping those products!!
its not the stride length that is the problem. It is that the smallest of hand movement without corresponding leg movement is being captured as a step. Looks like the Fitbit team didn’t even test the device before releasing it!!!!!

You’re exactly right. Every little movement like driving, washing dishes, even typing at my job registers as a step. I returned the stupid thing after only a week. I was so SO incredibly disappointed.
Hey Fitbit! Do something about this problem!

Aarti, why should they fix it? They got your money. And FitBit is synonymous with fitness tracker, so obviously whatever they do is perfect. You just too oblivious to realize you're walking 3000 steps when you're sitting at your desk. FitBit knows better. /sarcasm

Reading messages from 2018 with this problem, now it's 6/8/2019 - same problem. Just bought a new charge 3. Got up, went across the hall to use the bathroom - got 175 steps. I have a phone program that's WAY more accurate than that. I have a watch. I can look at my phone if I want the weather. I'd like something that works. If it's still a problem, maybe it will never change? Couple more days, and I think it goes back to Costco... Ugg.

Charge 3 is horrible and overcounts steps by a ridiculous percentage. I had the Charge 2 HR and it was way better. Not sure how they've gone backward here and less accurate than the cheap $10 pedometer my mom got at Walgreens.
Returning today. All of the Fitbit "solutions" are subpar and never buying a Fitbit again as they don't seem to be making priority to fix this.

I am a long time user of fitbit... recently moved from fitbit 2 to fitbit 3. Expecting I was upgrading. When I realised that the steps were well overcounted I searched for a solve... It would appear that this has been going on for quite some time and still no fix! Is this correct?
It would be appreciated if the moderator could advise if there is a resolve being sought for this problem, or should I just go back to the more accurate fitbit 2?
Thank you

I’ve had the same issues!!! I didn’t think much of it since there were more noticeable issues starting to emerge just shortly after the warranty expired. The display would turn off with nothing working until the next day it just solved itself. Sometimes the screen would continually change to different displays. It would vibrate randomly. The battery would drain shortly after fully charging it. A few months later, lines started appearing throughout and now I can barely see the screen. Then a few days ago, it started vibrating uncontrollably, changing screen display every few seconds, the battery only lasts a few minutes, more lines started appearing and it’s hard for me to see my screen now. I contacted Fitbit and tried all their suggestions but nothing worked. All they were willing to do is offer me 25% off for my next purchase which will never happen the more I read about these Fitbit products.

I had this same problems and many others after 15 months of getting my fitbit. Now it’s completely gone and I was only given 25% off of my next purchase. But it seems like this product might completely useless/defective because I’ve read hundreds of customer reviews reporting the exact same issues I’ve had just after the warranty runs out.
I too will be looking at other trackers, just not Fitbit any longer.

So yesterday I walked more than 51,000 steps. Not very likely. My previous Charge 3 failed entirely and was replaced after nearly burning my fingers when it was charging! A step counter or other fitness tracker that is so far off the mark is completely useless. I went cycling yesterday and I guess the tracker counted all my pedal strokes? Ridiculous. AND when I try to sync with my phone to track my rides, it almost never will connect although my Bluetooth says the watch is connected. I don't think consumers should have to jump through hoops to make something work. My inclination is to return this and get something that actually does the job.
