My new Charge 3 is adding on 1000’s of steps i haven’t done. Is there anyway I can sort this out?

I have the same problem, I tried the above and it hasn't helped. I am regularly counting 12000+ steps and I have a desk job. Please help, if this cannot be fixed I will have to return it.

I tried wearing my previous £15 tracker and my fc3 together and the cheap tracker recorded 6000 steps where the fc3 recorded 12000, this is ridiculous, according to the fc3 I am an athlete burning 1000's of calories over my recommend daily 2500. Believe me, I am no athlete! Whats the point of having this device? FITBIT PLEASE FIX THIS WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE OR HAVE THE DECENCY TO RECALL THIS USELESS TRACKER!

I have tried everything to remedy the discrepancy in the tracker and I will now be sending my Fitbit Charge 3 back as it is not fit for purpose.   Why after all the complaints are Fitbit continuing to sell these products???

Tried this however it doesn't work. It still counts the steps while I am idle or travelling in a cab. It doesn't allow me to delete these steps too. This is not an accurate way to achieve the goal of steps in a day. I bought this from the USA & I don't know how to return it in India.

My problem with the Charge 3 is that it's not logging enough steps.  For example, when I go to a grocery store or Target, I have my hands on the cart so it's not registering any arm movement since my hands are on the cart and therefore no steps.  Even after two hours of serious shopping, I didn't even register 500 steps!  Also, if I'm carrying something in the hand that has the Fitbit Charge 3, it's not registering because of lack of movement/arm swing.  Is there a Fitbit I can replace the Charge 3 with that would be more accurate for these types of situations?  I've had Fitbits in the past that would register even if the arm wasn't swinging because I thought they used to be based on hip movement.  Is there going to be a fix for this or are we just going to all be unhappy with our Fitbits and stop buying the product?

Hi Jane in Kansas

I took my Fitbit back to the shop and exchanged it for a new one and it has
been fine ever since. I do think that they have made this one worse than
the last though.

I am now quite happy with the new one so far.

I am laughing at this suggested procedure just as I'm sure everyone who reads it.

I’m new to fitbit and bought it too see how badly unfit I am. Disappointing to see that the step counting issue has been reported yet its an ongoing issue. My charge 3 randomly congratulates me on step count at my work desk, on the sofa, in a car.  It counts the vibrations of a bus as steps, it seems to think hand movements are steps - did fitbit do any QA on this during development?

Please dont suggest turning it off and on, thats poor support.  I’ll review the settings but dont hold out hope that it’ll fix it.

The problem persisted, Fitbit didn’t do anything about it, and I gave up on it. A pointless piece of kit and a waste of money. Sorry I can't offer any help or suggestions, but the simple matter of it is that the Charge 3 just doesn’t work.

I’m amazed by that, because they replaced mine and it was exactly the same. Maybe I was just unlucky. But either way 2 faulty charge 3’s in a row doesn’t look great for the company. Hope yours continues to work for you.

My husband has a Garmin vivoactive HR, and it works amazingly well. Their customer service is also amazing. He had the wrist strap break after having it a year and a half. They replaced the band for free even though it was outside of the warranty! I just got the charge 3(free through my insurance, so at least I didn't pay for this thing) and I'm having the same extra steps issue. Super bummed =(

Same situation here. It counts steps while I'm driving, sitting, doing sth in the garden and even when I fold clothes! I noticed that after few months of using. Want to return it but currys is bloody closed because of covid! Ridiculous! Just lost money

You can have the steps taken off if you go into the app and log the time you were driving as exercise. Choose driving as the exercise, and indicate the start/end time. The problem there is that it then counts it as a day of exercise, and if you monitor days of exercise and did not exercise that day, it adds extra days.
