Charge 4 screen fading

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hello. My charge 4 screen has been getting dimmer over the past few months and now it's at the stage that I can only actually see the screen when I'm somewhere dark. Even then the middle of the screen is barely readable and the outer edges aren't much better. I have tried adjusting the brightness and restarting the device but nothing improves the display and it's getting worse. Looking for suggestions to help. Many thanks

Mine does this randomly, as long as I can see it, I scroll

to settings, and click on it, and it will get brighter, I have a Charge 4, Otis a pain though as it does whenever it wants very aggravating

I did the same with mine, it definitely is a pain. I hope that yours doesn’t go the same route that mine did. Good Luck!

I suspected this might be the case from what I've been researching. I've had it 18 months now so it's well out of warranty. Thanks for the info 👍

@Eledhel72 , Thank you for the update.

Even if the warranty should have expired, please contact our team. Maybe they have other information that might be helpful.

I just spent an hour on the Chat trying to get help with this.  First, Natalie A. just cut me off.  Then Jose told me to to a dark room and never came back.  I will NOT be buying another FITBIT product after many years of enjoying them.  They could have at least just tell me the truth about the screen fading.

Terrible customer service.

Mine just started doing this within the past month.  I thought I accidently changed the setting but did not.  It's really hard to read it in bright light or sunshine.  Very disappointed with this.  If they know it's a problem, they should recall it.  I don't want the new Charge 5 because of needing to subscribe to get most of the features I like.

Try changing to another clock face to see if that helps, call the Support Team, if it is still under warranty you should

be able to get a replacement. I understand totally why you don’t want a Charge 5, for me, it seems to have too many

of the same problems that the Charge 4 is experiencing.  I ended up getting a used Charge 4 from the Shop Goodwill

auction site.  I was able to get it for $10 plus shipping, I received it today and it seems to be functioning fine.  I wasn’t investing any more money but the price was right and if it works for 6 months or more I’ll be happy.  I am also in the process of writing Corporate, I’m not sure if it will doing any good but I need to tell them how disappointed I am in their products, their customer service and the company as a whole.   I wish you well, I hope that the Support Team can help you.  Let me know how you make out.

Actually, mine is a charge 3, I was thinking it was the 4 but regardless, it's doing the same thing.  I also have noticed that once I drop below 50%charge it dims significantly.  But I will try changing the clock face and see if it makes a difference.  Thanks.  I did contact support and they told me to reset my charge 3.  I will try that as well.

The Charge 3 is able to be totally shut down, have you tried that? This is a link that shows you how. https://youtu.be/ijnofRhSzaI
When I’m not using my Charge 3 I always shut it down. I don’t know if bringing it back to factory settings would help or not. I know how frustrating this is for you. Good Luck, keep me posted.

I have the same problem as described by Eledhel72. I have done all that is suggested here - and from help desk. The screen is still black. The outcome is that I could get a free Charge4 or 50% on a new product. (My Charge4 was within warranty). I ordered a new Charge5 - and hope this will last MUCH longer that this one!

Hi, I am sorry that this also happened to you, but I am delighted that you were still under warranty. I hope that the Charge 5 lives up to its expectations for you. Read over the Forum comments on the Charge 5 so you are aware of problems that you might (fingers crossed that you don’t) expect and can take action quickly. If and when I’m
ready for a Change 5, I will check in with you to see it is working out for you. Best of luck with your new Charge 5…Happy Stepping!
