Charge2 recording way too many floors

ANSWERED

For the past month my charge 2 has been quadrupling, at the minimum, the number of floors I climb each day. I have restarted the unit several times hoping that this would help resolve the problem, no such luck. On Monday of this week it had me at 236 floors in one day, every day this week it has been at over 100 a day. Usually, I'm in the 20 to 40 range and consider my stair climbing to be a valuable part of my activity. It's at the point now that I can't trust any thing it records with regard to flights climbed. I'm also concerned that all these extra added flights scew my step count as well. Any suggestions of how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

I've been experiencing the very same problems for 3 months now: a serious overcount of floors (26 instead of app. 10 today).

- no fan in the vicinity

- no altitudes

- I've done a reset

- I've installed it as a new device

- Ive cleaned the back several times with a damp cloth

All according to the suggested tips to solve the problem.

After a reset a couple of days my fitbit seems fine and then the problem is back again.

If you flip it over with the button on the right at the top left-hand side you will see a small hole which is the barometer

Thank you. Fortunately it was just a one day thing due to the crazy windy weather. My fitbit went back to normal the next day re: floors.

You clean it. There was some residue in mine. I used a toothpick and carefully picked it out.

Hey @Kakatoe, it is cool to see new members around the Community! I appreciate the time you have taken to try to fix this issue with your Charge 2 'cause it seems that it is counting extra floors. Let me ask you, how did it go with cleaning the altimeter? Did you notice a difference? Let me know. 😉

Hey @Leonard.jones53, well, if your Charge 2 seems to be tracking so many steps, could you please tell me, are you wearing it on your dominant or on your non-dominant hand? I'm asking because if you are wearing it on your dominant, your Fitbit will recognize most of the movement of your arms as steps so the amount of steps will increase. Please take a look at that detail.

@Lybra975, It is nice to see new faces around! Thanks for the instructions, that is exactly the place of the altimeter on the Charge 2.

@Cacglass, welcome my friend! Sounds pretty cool that your Charge 2 is tracking your floors accurate again. I appreciate the update.

Have a nice day folks!

Hi, I just started using my new Fitbit Charge 2, and after only 2 hours it recorded I climbed 137 floors. Wow. That would be amazing, except I didn't. Is there any way to delete wrong data? I searched the fora and the interface but couldn't find it. Thanks.

We could look below, click on help. type 'delete' into the search bar.

Your answer will be found in the first hit

Basically log the time of the offending floors as driving.

Have you tried a restart of the tracker

Hi, thank you for the answer, but I have already tried both solutions:

  1. When I change the activity on the date/time the floors are registered to driving it still counts them in the overview as floors. In addition, this solution is really time consuming, since I have about 7 peaks of non-existing floor climbing, which means I have to find seven time slots in which this occurred and manually change them into driving. I cannot do this every single day!
  2. I tried resetting but I still climb 100-200 floors per day, which is completely incorrect.

Are you tapping on the word driving that pops up. and not just hitting enter?

I’ve been running up and down the stairs to do laundry and the charge 2 showed 0 stairs. 😞

After a couple of failed attempts at all the suggested solutions and some emails to Fitbit help, the last suggestion was to check the little hole at the top left back side of the Fitbit.  Well, it did have debris in it, so I carefully cleared it out and hey presto, it is solved!

Thanks Carlos in the Fitbit team!
