Display not working on Charge 2

The display on my Charge 2 stopped working. I get nothing. It still syncs to my phone, but no display and no notifications. I have restarted multiple times, but no change. Anyone else experience this?

thanks for the reply, Boothby!

My Charge 2 was holding a charge well, I only had to recharge it about every 4th day. It was still at 80% charged on Saturday morning, and sometime Saturday afternoon, the display went black.  I tried to charge it, but it just got hot, still had no display, and the app on the phone could not "locate the tracker".  I did get ahold of customer service after trying to restart the phone, but they just said it was out of warranty, and offered me 25% off of a new watch (certain models only).  I'm disappointed to have to replace a watch that was seemingly working fine, and I'm skeptical to buy another fitbit as, like I said, this is my 4th in 5 years

nope, restarted it 4 or 5 times without any luck...

unfortunately, it didn't do anything. It still tracks, but have to look at the app on either my phone to see information or my desktop...I am looking at a new tracker, not sure which direction to go...

I have now read 15 pages of reviews from frustrated charge 2 users dating from early 2018 all reporting the same problem with the watch display and the same lack of support from fitbit as soon as the warranty expires. Its official - the reboot "fix" worketh not. I now feel lucky mine lasted as long as it did (2 yrs) before giving up. My wife's lasted just over the year. The charge 2 was not cheap and not value for money. When i save up that much money again, i'll try a garmin or apple

And I now have an offer of 25% off, from Fitbit.

I appreciate the offer, except:

  1. I was laid off due to COVID.  The company I worked for did tech for big, live events.  It's unlikely they will return, and even less likely they will hire me back.  It really wasn't in my plan-book to go and spend over $100 on a new smartwatch.
  2. With all the people complaining about similar problems (which seem to be averaging roughly 2 years from box opening to watch death), I don't know if I want to spend $100+ on such unreliable tech.
  3. I can get a new Garmin Vivoactive 3 for $120, without any discount.  So there's that.

My display was showing upside down and a reverse mirror image with a line of short horizontal bars down one side of the screen. I thought my Charge 2 was dead and i would have to invest in a new device.  I tried this solution following the instructions and after the third pressing of the button, my screen  display was perfect! Thank you!

Loved my Fitbit Charge 2 until it stopped working  Cleaned contacts, did the reset 3 times.  Worked for half a day and now a blank screen.  Will recharge again today.  Other ideas?

Nope! Once the display stops working you only have one choice, until you buy another brand. I have to double click the face and the display show for about 10 seconds. Enough time to see what time it is. I have to double click it again, to see the date.

Lauryn, I'm glad that worked for you.  I've tried resetting it many, many times, with no luck.

I'm just going to let it sit and discharge for a week, and then charge it up and try again.

I’m guessing that this is what manufacturers call timely end of life for the Fitbit’s. After almost a year the display breaks, but everything else works. It’s useless in sunlight. I’ll keep using it until some other important feature breaks. Then I will try the Garmin watch. I’ve heard no issues with their displays.

After trying for many many times to fix this issue, I gave up and let the battery get depleted. Then all of a sudden, after a few days I pressed the button and it worked.

I should point out that in between I removed the tracker from the account even without seeing the screen.

I hope this helps someone.

Still, fitbit sucks with their response

I take it all back.

It lasted no more than 2 hrs. After about an hour it started flickering and having some strange lines appearing on the left, and than died again.

So Fitbit still sucks, and what a shame, being a pioneer in the market.

So after the same thing happening to me I decided to contact Fitbit support. They were incredibly unhelpful and provided no solution. There have been so many users with the same issue and they haven't done anything to fix it. After more research I found out that the Charge 2 is just a poor made watch as many people say it has not lasted them for more than a year. With that being said I am now a proud Apple watch owner and would highly recommend others to make the switch as well.
