Fixing the Charge 2 Notifications On & Off Issue Once and for All

When my wife's Charge 2 suffered the Notifications On and Off issue last week, I tried every "fix" that had been offered here in the community Charge 2 thread.   None of them worked.  After I had contacted Fitbit as the device was still in warranty, I tried one last ditch effort to sort it out myself, based on the assumption that the device was fundamentally OK, but that there was a firmware issue.  I surprised myself and fixed it.

I have found a way of solving the issue which, given the numbers of people complaining about the issue, could save Fitbit a considerable amount of money.  This is what needs to be done - unfortunately, any un-synced data will probably be lost, but that is a small price to pay.

This what you need to do to overcome the problem.

1. Allow the Charge 2 battery to go flat (that will only take 1 to 2 hours if it has the Notifications On & Off fault)

2.   Open up the Fitbit Dashboard on your computer, plug in the charging USB cord and attach the Charge 2.

3. Click on “View Settings” in the Dashboard and then click on the Charge 2 icon.

4. Scroll down the page and click on the blue line of text that says “Remove this Charge 2 from your account”.

5. Once the Charge 2 has been removed, check on your iOS or Android phone that the Charge 2 has disappeared from the App.  Switch the phone off to be sure there is no communication between it and the Fitbit.

6. Restart the Charge 2, using the method you suggested at  How do I restart my Fitbit device?

7.   Remove Charge 2 from the charging cradle.

8. In your browser, go to (in my case) https://www.fitbit.com/uk/setup and follow the instructions for downloading software for your computer.

9. Once downloaded, run the software and re-attach the Charge 2 to the cradle,  if four digits do not appear on the Charge 2 screen when it is connected, do a further restart.  The 4 numbers will now appear and you can add your Charge 2 back to your desktop.  The Charge 2 will have come out of the Notifications On & Off fault mode.

10.  Finally restart your phone and check your Fitbit App to make sure that the Charge 2 is showing.

In theory, this might also work directly from the phone App, but I have not been able to test this as the problem has been solved.

Good Luck!
