Sleep stages data graph query on Fitbit Charge 2 software

I have for some months been observing the 'sleepstages' graph report produced by the Fitbit app for the Charge 2. On each graph that describes my night's sleep, the graph shows (in addition to the light-blue, medium-blue, deep-blue and bright-red lines that represent my 'REM', 'light' and 'deep' sleep and 'awake' periods during each night's rest) a varying number of very small red- 'markers' along the top of the graph. These markers seem to be randomly distributed across the 'sleep period', and align with and are the same colour as, the 'awake' indicator. However, these lines are much shorter than any of the more distinct 'awake' periods on the graph and they do not seem to be at all connected to the graph's 'sleep fluctuations' line.

The information that accompanies the Charge 2 app for this graph makes no reference to these markers, so I do not understand either what they are or mean.

I want to know what they are intended to represent - could you please tell me?

@Everardus_ron  It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community! Thank you for your inquiry. These red lines are brief awake periods detected by your device. You can read more about them here.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi!

Thank you much for your quick reply to my query, and your referral to the information in your web-page's article, the info in which was useful.

In the 'How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?' section on your web-site, and sub-section 'Why do I see awake minutes?', it states that “you may not remember waking up . . . , especially if you were awake for less than 2-3 minutes at a time”.

Most often (95% of) when I wake from a night's sleep I have no memory of having woken during the night, yet the number of 'awake' incidents logged in the FitBit data graph, including the small, single red dashes, are between 20 and 30. I am seeking to understand the FitBit's data fully, so would like to know 'how long' a single dash is likely to be. Could the reference to '2 – 3 minutes' in your article indicate that each small red dash of 'awake' time could be 2 or 3 minutes long? Your advice, please.

For your information, in your web-page's 'How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?' section, sub-section 'How does my Fitbit device automatically detect sleep?', in the paragraph beginning with “Fitbit estimates your sleep stages using a combination of . . . . “ a sentence seems non-sensical – as it reads “- such as the length of time your movements are indicative of sleep behavior” (in particular, my bolded typing). Is this supposed to read ' . . . length of time between your movements'?

Many thanks,

Ron
