I manually press the button at the beginning of my workout, which consists of lifting weights followed by running. If I want to view pace and distance for running, do I have to press the button again so that they're recognized as two different sessions? Or is there a way to recategorize the single session into two different exercise types?

There's no way to split a recorded exercise. I'd recommend starting and stopping between sessions so you get two distinct activities recorded.
Hope this helps!

Best AnswerI have a similar workout where I lift weights, then purposely wait 5 minutes and then head to the treadmill. Fitbit even updated my workout while I waited to show a 30 minute workout. I took a 5 minute break then hit the treadmill for 30 minutes. When I synced my fitbit (Charge 2), it showed a continuous 65 minute workout....frustraating...
