Take your wrist with the tracker on and twist it back and forth as if you are using a screwdriver. Check the steps before and after. when I do this I register for 5 seconds I register at least 20 to 30 steps.
I have had to reduce my stride length from 79cm to 40cm to get the proper distance that I walked per day. Step themselves are so inaccurate I use my old tracker along the side of Fitbit Charge 2. My old track along phone both record almost exactly the same number of steps but Charge 6000 more at 40cm stride. Fitbit need to work on this!

I just entered some driving activities into my account and the steps, floor and calorie count stayed as well. Does Fitbit plan on actually allowing us to update our data with correct information?

@EdsonFitbit wrote:Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Rumblebee. It's great to have you here. Driving might cause your tracker to register extra steps. If your Charge 2 counts steps while driving you can try one of the following workarounds:
1. You can manually log driving on your Dashboard > Log > Activities. This will negate the extra data for you to really know how far you've gone. It can be done before or after your commute.
2. Charge your Fitbit tracker while on the road. (While your tracker is being charged it doesn't count your activities).
Hope to see you around more often.
How is this the accepted solution to the issue when 1) you have to do something manually to correct the inaccurate device, and 2) the suggestions given don't actually work even as a work around for those that have tried them in this post?

The suggestion does work start typing on the word driving, a popup list will pop up.. Now click on the driving in this popup.
There is an app called travelbit that claims to detect driving and automatically add a driving event.
There also is. Suggestion to have a drive mode that can be found by searching the feature request board.
From what I've been able to determine, all tracker a on the market will add steps during a bumpy ride.

I agree that you can add a driving activity to your log. The issue is that it doesn't make a difference. As I (and others in this post) have found, the steps, floors and calories that were "earned" while you were driving are not being taken away when you add the driving activity. Unless there is something else we have to do to our profiles to allow the driving to override the tracker activity, that suggestion is not a valid work around.

Hello everybody. Thanks for joining us. When manually logging driving on your account, please make sure you type the word "driving" under the Log Activities section. If you click the Activity record button (in the red square in the screen shot below) the steps and floors won't be deleted.
Additionally, since you can create custom activities, there is a chance you could have created a second driving option. To select the original activity to negate steps please make sure that it looks exactly like the one below (without the red box):
If the above doesn't help, please provide me with a screen shot of your Dashboard to further investigate.
Catch you later.

When I type Driving into the search field there are two that show up. Selecting either gives me the same options to fill in of Date, Start time, Duration and optionally Distance and Calories.
Both seem to have the same effect on my activity. Is there a way to tell the difference?
Here you can see my steps from 12/26 and the activity log showing driving at the same time steps were counted.

I find it funny that some of us are being dinged for driving but others are not. I drive roughly 400 km a week and I have check steps and distance before and after trips nothing changes other than arm moving tracking of steps. seem like every Charge 2 has a mind of its own.

Today I noticed something when adding driving from yesterday. As noted above I have two different "Driving" activites when I do a search. I tried using both and found that some have the "View Details" buttons after them in the logs, and others do not. The ones that don't seem to be taking away steps. For those others out there that aren't getting your activities corrected by adding driving, do they all have the "View Details"?

You have to use the Fitbit.com website. Once you log in you need to click on Log at the top of the page.
Then at the bottom of the page you should see Log Activities.
You can type driving in the search field and it should pull it up.

I have tried typing drive and driving into the correct "Log Activity" box, but it does not pull anything up, it only gives me the option of creating a custom activity. Anyone else have this issue? This is only my second day with my new Charge 2 and it logged 994 steps and 2 flights of stairs on my drive to work. If I can't figure this out I may end up returning it, after all how helpful will it be if I can never trust the step count.

I thought I fixed it by wearing tighter but last min of my drive it packed on 10 extra steps I used the travel bit but it took off more than. What I started with before driving.....than I put my coat on and it added 50 steps.

When I go to log activities on my dashboard and search for driving, nothing comes up and it asks me if I want to create a custom activity.

I have the same issue-actually because it doesn't even find "driving" when searching to log an activity. Only asks if I want to add a custom activity. This is both on the website dashboard and the fitbit app.

Hello. I would like to add my 2c about this issue. I had a Fitbit Charge for a few years, which packed in not long ago, so this last Christmas I decided to reward myself with a Charge 2. Extremely happy with it, but with the same old issue about tracking false steps while driving. I have always used an app called Drivebit which works fine, although the IOs versione has no option to edit times, but it can happen (and it does happen) to forget to switch it on or off, also one needs a mobile phone always at hand. I haven't tried the logging as I have had no need so far, but I suppose, from what I read here, it would still be a pain...
Now my question (and suggestion) to the developers is: would it be so hard to implement a function to switch the steps count off and on as we please? Ok, we might still forget to do it now and again, but less often than using a phone and surely more handy than keeping track of driving times to be logged later on a computer. Maybe my mind is too simple, but again how hard would that be? Thanks for reading my rant. 🙂
