I did a search for this problem, but ended up more confused, sorry.
While I've had my fitbit almost a year, I didn't REALLY start using it until a few months ago (it had been part of a promotion for something else I had bought). I've got it synced and I believe it recently did an update.
The steps are w-a-y off. I wear it on my non-dominant hand and I control my arm swing directly because of this issue. Here's a couple of examples from just walking around my (small) apt; the unit resets at midnight, it's approximately 9 steps to my bathroom from my bed, I walk the distance and it shows 9 steps. I walk back to bed taking the same route, and it shows I've walked 53 steps total. From bed to kitchen it's approximately 30 steps and I've gotten as high as 248 round trip. And, as others have mentioned, it records steps while I'm sleeping. I'm not one to thrash about but I've woken in the morning with as much as 1700 steps
On more than one occasion I've taken the fitbit off, and forgotten it either at work, or in my car overnight, no one had access to it. I go to put it on in the AM, and it already shows 100-500 steps.
I'm still learning all the other functions of the fitbit, but with the steps being so far off, I'm questioning how accurate everything else is.
Thank you.
John

Hey @JSB73, welcome aboard! The Charge 2 and the rest of Fitbit trackers are pretty accurate, the thing is that, sometimes you'll see some extra steps because the movement of your arms are often recorded as steps. That is just the way they work, that doesn't mean that they are defective or something like that. In this help article: How does my Fitbit calculate my daily activity? you'll find the explanation about how the Fitbit devices track your activity.
If you have further questions, let me know!
