Using Fitbit charge 2 for running

I’m having problems tracking my heart rate and gps via the Fitbit app/ my device. I have a Fitbit charge 2.

For the past few months I’ve not been wearing my device and have just been using the Fitbit app to track my runs. This has been unproblematic as it reads out the km markers in my ear which is helpful. Obviously it hasn’t been accurately tracking calories as I’m not using my heart rate monitor but that wasn’t a major problem.

Ive started wearing my Fitbit device again, but I’ve still been starting the exercise in app rather than on my device as I like hearing the km markers rather than having to look at my Fitbit screen. I finished my run this morning and on the app it said there wasn’t enough heart rate data to accurately show heart rate zones on the GPS map.

My question is - why doesn’t my Fitbit accurately track things if the exercise is started in the app, even when I’m wearing my device?

Why can’t the exercise pop up on my Fitbit screen when it’s started in the app?

It seems that I either have to start the exercise on my Fitbit device screen and do without the km markers being read to me, or I have to start the exercise in the app and have inaccurate data.

Sorry if this makes no sense!

@SAlmond1 It's great to have you here!

Let me help you with your tracking your distance with your Charge 2 and Fitbit app. When you use the app you are only using the phone's sensors to detect your progress and you are able to use voice cues to listen when you complete 1 km. When you use the tracker it will use your tracker's sensors to detect your heart rate and distance but additional data will be provided by your phone's GPS chip. Still your heart rate should be read so I suggest you clean the back of your device with cotton and rubbing alcohol and restart it. Turn the heart rate off, save and sync then turn it on save and sync again. Also check these tips to improve the heart rate reading on your device.
